You might want to avoid Krispy Kreme

They usually have several boxes of glazed doughnuts already packaged and ready to go. Of course, some people need fewer than a full dozen-- some order a single glazed doughnut or a few glazed mixed in a variety box. It is their normal practice to have one box of glazed near the window that they pull from to fill those smaller orders. Someone just grabbed the wrong box when they were filling the bag for OP's order.

We are from Winston-Salem, NC where Krispy Kreme originated. The employees get free unlimited doughnuts while working so there is truly no way they would steal out of a dozen that was for a customer. Check out their website, it says free doughnuts as a perk of employment like 5 times just on this one page. WORK FOR KRISPY KREME! Like I mentioned earlier in the thread, they are definitely eating the hot fresh ones (which is really the only way they are good) not the ones that have been sitting around in a box.
^^^This.

I don't understand calling the health dept. Contact the store directly and ask for the manager.

Not a problem because I don't like Krispy Kremes, hubby does but they are too sugary for me. Almost all the fast food type places in my area have gone to 100% drive through, which is a huge PITA. We always pull over in the parking lot after we get our food just to check.

On a side bar, we went to Zaxby's last night and didn't open the boxes to check because we knew they were the right amount of boxes. Got home, which is a 20 min. drive away and discovered everything was over done or out and out burnt. I'm talking the chicken was hard and dry, the toast was black and the fries were burnt. Since it was a 20 min. drive we didn't take them back. I could eat one chicken finger and some fries and a bite of toast and gave up. Hubby ate a little more than me. We have gotten enough to have for leftovers the next day but I'm guessing at least half of it will be trashed since I'm not even attempting the chicken today. I could not even chew it, it was that hard. Even our dog wouldn't eat it. I will go to their website and put in a complaint but only to let them know. I'm thinking even had we opened the boxes, except for the toast, we wouldn't have known they were over cooked.

Hmmmm. Having to shout 5 times about free donuts while working leads me to believe the rest of the job really sucks.

Are you sure you didn't just black out and eat the rest, cause I swear I think this happens to me sometimes.

I pick up a box of girl scout cookies, intending to eat 1 or 2, and ten minutes later I look down and a whole sleeve is gone. :jester:

For real. :P
That just happened to me with a big bag of chips.

Our local donut shops are open early in the morning until noon. They usually take a credit card if you meet a certain minimum. They all have traditional donuts and sausage rolls.

They come in different sizes and you can also get them with jalapenos inside. Some places also offer them with bacon inside or on top and wrapped in croissants dough instead of the traditional dough. They also often will offer other things such as breakfast tacos. When I lived in another city I went to one that offered these delicious giant egg rolls that were big enough to serve as my lunch if I didn't have time to make my lunch before work. There's one near my house that offers boba tea as well.

Some of them offer giant trays you can order in advance of letter-shaped donuts that spell out a message. I ordered those as a treat when my boys had their 10th birthday as a special treat. My older son's donut tray was elaborately decorated with Star Wars and Minecraft motifs. I love the creativity of the local donut shops.

Now you mention is, it sure does seem that mom and pop doughnut shops and bakeries are more likely to be cash only. I was in one just before the pandemic started and a customer remarked to the owner he could sell more doughnuts if he took plastic. Owner replied that he was already selling every doughnut he had the capacity to bake, so why bother with taking plastic?

They're not baked. Just thought I'd put it out there.

Don't most food service jobs suck? Especially in a labor shortage when you likely don't have enough help at any given time?

I've seen stuff like that, but more at Asian bakeries. Maybe not sticking out, and sometimes just minis where maybe it's a quarter of a hot dog.

Of course that kind of looks like bagel or pretzel dogs. I'm sure there are endless variations on sausages wrapped in some sort of baked dough.
