NJ has now closed all barber shops, spas, nail salons and beauty salons.

even less places to spend this hypothetical money.

I just got a text from European Wax Center that they are tempoarily closing all their locations voluntarily (which they have franchised locations)..I had an appointment for the end of the month that I made at my last appointment in the beginning of March. Now I would have extended it anyways but they don't have a reopen date soooo :sad1:.

Stand-alone liquor stores are few and far between in WI. You can pretty much any kind of liquor at the gas station/Walmart/Target and ALL of it at the grocery store.
Because of the previous asinine liquor laws in KS stand alone liquor stores are king around here.

Last Thursday we opted to look at the liquor aisle at Walmart since they can now sell up to 5.9% but alas they like we expected lacked in variety and I didn't see any alcohol in anyone's carts haha. So off to the liquor store across the street we went to get build your own 6 packs (though they had plenty of other liquor, that liquor store is a decent size).

Were your grocery store liquor aisles packed (if you've been out recently)?

I think Canada has actually come out with a better plan in getting money to people that need it by expanding EI Benefits (both regular and medical) and creating special emergency funds for those who wouldn't qualify for EI programs. It's designed to get the money where it's needed most. Along with extending the deadline for having your taxes done and other payment deferrals without incurring interest.
I’ve been on a bit of a news sabbatical - could you kindly point me towards some official information on this? We’re finally scheduled to be returned home from Mexico on Saturday. We’ll both be in isolation for 14 days. I will be paid in full during that time and 100% positive to be returning to my role (remote or in-office). DH’s company has informed him his time will be unpaid unless their insurance carrier applies short-term disability or EI pays. Also not quite as confident in his job security, so I’m very interested in any provisions the government has announced.

TIA :wave2:

As Dave Ramsey would say to you, Eat rice and beans, beans and rice.

Listen, I am not an alcoholic or anything, but I have to have access to some wine and tequila. This isn't prohibition. We are already getting used to new normal. Not having alcohol would really be the end of the world!
Right their with you,
I stocked up on Jack Daniels, wine, beer, and coffee. Without coffee and alcohol I just might go on a rampage😂

Yeah, right. That might work if you're retired. If you still have to earn a living, then the high cost of living areas are where the good jobs are.

Hmmmm. Critical thinking would tell one that it's a low cost of living area because there are no decent paying jobs. :rolleyes1

In another thread talking about housing prices and such, I asked people to post examples or the area and some had. One posted what I assumed to be around 1000 sq ft 3 bedroom, very much like my old house as an example of their $500,000 "starter home" informing me that this is what house prices were like. I looked it up and it was in a 1 mile by 3 mile neighborhood and outside of that neighborhood were countless $150k homes for sale. Several that did post was the same result, affordable if they would just look beyond their rich neighborhood just a mile or so.

Safe Travels to you, I hope you get back. Fingers crossed it all works out for your husband.

I agree! One of my Michigan news sources (ok, Mlive) had an article about Michigan banning alcohol (I guess a couple of states have already) and our Governor right now has not made that decision. What the heck??? I don't care if someone partakes in just a glass of wine or a case of beer a day. What the heck does banning alcohol have ANYthing to do with this virus and "social distancing". :confused3

Thank you kindly. :flower3:

We’re pretty confident that our charter flight, direct from Puerto Vallarta to Calgary, will be fine. It will be the proverbial last ship out. Our package tour operator has been repatriating it’s customers all week on a first-in-first out basis. We were on the very last flight they brought down here a week ago. No way to tell what will happen with DH’s job; our two companies have extremely different corporate cultures. God provides though, so we’re at peace.

We can stop theorizing, the first draft is out, things could change.

$1200 for an individual, $2400 for a couple, $500 per kid.

There are income restrictions ($75000 individual, $150000 joint) but can not be reduced below $600 for an individual or $1200 for a couple.

Doesn't sound like the kid part is influenced by income.

The checks will be based on your 2018 income but the actual amount you are allowed will ultimately be based on your 2020 income and you will have to settle up when you file your 2020 taxes. You may get more of the credit then or may have to return excess credit paid to you as part of this prebate.

There is a provision for a second payment if we are still under a state of emergency.

I don't understand. Based on 2018 income? And then based on 2020 income and you have to return it if something something? So someone can get the money, but if they end up making more in 2020 they have to pay it back?

Why not just base it on what you filed for 2019 and be done?

Also - and I swear I'm not asking for me! :D - someone was asking is it based on what you made before or after taxes?

Cause the filing deadline is April 15th. And some people file extensions.

Because not everyone has filed their 2019 taxes yet.
I think it is based on your AGI

I am wondering what this means for adult kids who are dependents but have filed their own taxes.

I think Memorial Day is the last point this can possibly go. I'm not sure if it can last that long, but I'd lay money on it not lasting past that. To even get that far, it's going to take a major outbreak. Like many thousands dead in the US. But we get to Memorial Day with people locked down and businesses closed and I think people will walk past dead bodies to get to the lakes, beaches, and back to some sort of normal routine.

I'm betting it won't get past the beginning of May. I'm hearing lots of people talking about this. Even many older people are saying they'd rather take their chances with the virus than face a slow death from starvation.
