You might get a thousand dollars stimulus package

I disagree. This is all speculation, not facts. (regarding what can happen)

But some people like to think of worst case scenarios to help them through, some people like to try and stay a bit more positive (which doesn't mean not being realistic) and some people like to not think about it at all!

The thing is that for weeks I and others have tried to share information on the expected path this was going to take. Not to scare people, not to panic people, but to prepare people and to help them make smart choices (like maybe don’t get on that flight to Italy tomorrow). Whether it was saying WDW would close, cruising would be interrupted, schools would close, business would significantly slow down. We were met with pretty rude responses about overhyping, dire prediction, scare mongering, being told our facts were incorrect, and being told we were flat out ignorant....only we werent. We were right.

So yes the future is always speculation, but it’s speculative guided by facts and knowledge of how science and governments work. You can chose not to hear it or think we’re negative but calling us unreasonable and then saying we should all lock up at home and die now seems like ostrich sticking their head in the sand.

I know about 10 people who have been furloughed. Their jobs aren't going to pay them. Big companies too. These people will have to file unemployment. Unfortunately a lot of employers aren't going to be kind and pay their employees. They will get their last checks this Friday and as we know, most Americans have no savings. It may take weeks or months for unemployment to go through.

And in so many cases unemployment pays less than a person's regular wages so it does help, don't get me wrong, but it does not make people whole.

You know nothing about me or what I'm doing. :)

Unfortunately a lot of employers aren't in a position to pay their employees with no revenue coming in - a LOT of small (yup - I saw you said Big Companies) businesses are going to be hurt.
It's not about being kind, it's about trying to hold it together when you have space/bldg lease or mortgage to pay, tax payments to make, insurance and overhead costs. Inventory, health care (if you are in a position to be able to afford to offer it), services and fees of various degrees. AND employees you'd like to keep on the payroll for as long as possible but just can't because the business can't support it.
And in terms of "big businesses" - what is considered "big" 25 employees? 50, 100, 500 , 2000? What if a Company of 1000 suffered greatly and had to lay off 250 people. What would be better - paying those people, but in doing so needing to let go of the cleaning staff, or the water delivery guy, the part timers, reducing benefits such as 401 K or health care, or moving everyone else to part time? It will in some way then just result in someone else shouldering the burden if they continued to pay laid off employees.

What if, instead of paying vendors, they paid employees instead of laying them off. And what if that vendor was YOU or your family/friends, who in turn was unable to....make payroll, pay insurance costs, cover overhead/make the electric bill, or pay your vendors?

I was referring to the ones that could afford to but won’t. But even if they could it wouldn’t last long at all bc this doesn’t seem to be ending anytime soon. I know there are so many that simply can’t afford it no matter what.

I don’t know if I said it on this thread or another one but I have a friend who delivers for a coffee company in our area. He said a lot of his clients (mostly mom and pop shops) said they will never be reopening after this. It’s scary and so sad.

I am in NJ. Everything is closed here. We don’t know when it’ll open back up.

I think there is every indication we will hit Great Depression levels of unemployment - 25%. Mnuchin said to expect 20%.
People will spend their checks from the government on such things as food, rent, gas etc.
This is going to be bad!
But 20 isn't 25;) That being said there are still social aspects of the Depression that hopefully are not in play.
And in the best of all worlds we are both wrong and the unemployment rate will be lower still. Not counting on it but one can hope.

I read it’ll be around $300-600 for a minor child. 1k for adults.

I believe it's going to end up being more than the $1,000 per adult - the $300-$600 might have been a newer proposal - there were a few suggested yesterday, but all that I read stated $1,000 for all qualifying American adults and children -
(Minimum) - I also saw a number of reports that stated $2,000- $6,000 for all qualifying American adult and child-

I also read a report that said checks for 1k on April 6 and May 18. So many different reports. I guess we just have to wait and see.

Your right, I can only respond to your posts where you tell people to “stop with this doomsday crap”. (and by ”doomsday crap” you were quoting someone that reported Malaysia and Singapore have cases which is actually a fact). My point is that you are being pretty dismissive and I’d say rude to people who are simply sharing facts.

I don't think I am.

We're all anxious.

I get that, and I don’t mean to pick on you. I just wish that people wouldn’t call each other or their postings “crap”.
I took a lot of heat for sharing things that ended up very true and it’s fine to not like what people post but to call them out for literally posting facts is not helping put positivity into the world.

Also wondering if SSI and/or SSDI recipients would be part of the stimulus ? My mom is disabled, and doesn't file a Federal tax return
