That's how it is here.......we just say four numbers when we are asked for our phone number. :D

They did that in my inlaws western Kansas town until the big city (a subrurb) of Kansas City took up so many numbers they had to get a different area code! DH still has trouble with the first three after 41 years!

The one grocery store in town is not open on Sunday. And when they are open the other 6 days of the week, they carry out your bags to the car!!

These are all so true and i have to laugh as i have lived thru most of them listed LOL

BuzznBelle'smom-- Do you live in Galway NY?? i went to high school there i grew up in Providence and now live in Porter corners All are small towns

Yep, sure do! We love it here! We think we're very continental, compared to Providence--after all, we have THREE stoplights!

LOL ya growing up in Providence going to town was stopping at agway and the Galway Market of course that was before they put the addition on and the local hot spot was Chucks
But ya know i wouldn't trade growing up there for anything
small town people are a good bunch
that's why we settled nearby
Nice to see there are other Disers in the area:D

DH's family ski chalet is in a very small town north of Toronto. When he was young the main news in the newspapers was pretty much about his family - which weekends they came up and whether they brought anybody with them and whether they visited anybody who lived in town. My MIL has saved some issues and we read them awhile ago and laughed until we cried. Fifteen minutes of fame? Try week after week of never-ending fame, just by driving from one location to another. :D

...you don't even have a stoplight.

...you have lived in town for almost ten years and you are still the newcomers.

...you have a problem with your water/furnace and the neightbors stop by to help.

...you stop in for your mail and the postmaster asks how your day went.

Even if your mail has the wrong address on it, it ends up at the right house, because the mail is handsorted by people who know everyone in town.
Your best friend's mother is the postal carrier for your route.
You have (count em) a total 6 street lights on a whopping 90 miles of roads, but, every driveway has its own street light
Your family reunion with relatives from "all the way across the country in California" is front page news of the local newspaper
The town has a monthly free "Crier" that updates the whole community on all the happenings, random acts of kindess in town, and where the graduates of the local combined elementary middle school are and what they're doing
You're the 3rd generation to be friends with a member of the same family-your father and grandfather were and still are friends with your friends father and grandfather
Every conversation with one of the "old timers" begins with "I remember when" and ends with some story about the crazy things your grandparents or parents did, because they all grew up in the same place (if I ever get out of Auburn I'll be the first generation to do so)
Your father owns enough land so that when he sells some of it off for a new subdivision, he saves a plot for each of his kids, for their houses, right behind his:rolleyes:
More land is owned by an Audobon society or Water Works than is owned by people
