How do you ship the bulky items?

I have a high chair that I listed on E-bay today that I don't even know how to ship this. I saw someone posted that they will ship for $10, so I put in $10 for shipping.

How do you figure this out?

Also, I have kids little tricycles and that sort of bulky stuff, I would like to list them but I am a little scared that the shipping error may eat off any money that I make.

Thanks for any tips you have.

You might want to revise your auction. $10 seems way too low for me. I ship all big items by UPS and you can go to www.ups.com and get a quote. Put in your exact weight and box measurements. It's very important to know your box measurements. Get a big box if you don't have one so you can get the quote. UPS, the post office, fed ex... etc. will go by dimensional weight when something is large. A lot of oversize items I ship cost me around $22 at a min. with UPS and would be much much more at the post office. If you can take apart the highchair a little and go for a smaller box that would be better. The larger the box the more expensive. A lot of people like FED EX so check their rates. I just use UPS because it's right down the street and easy for me. Anyhow, I'd definately revise my auction to at least read exact shipping by a ground shipper or a flat fee much higher. I think $10 would be way off and you'd be eating a lot of the shipping price. Usually at a minimum for a huge item for me is $18 or so and it's usually in the low to mid $20's. Hope this helps :)

Lat. I have shipped out a couple different bulky items. I have found that for anything over 2 pounds (I believe) I go UPS. You can go to the UPS website and figure shipping. You need the measurements of the box and the weight. I always figure that I am shipping residential. $10 does seem kinda low, but if it is a really light weight high chair, and you can take it apart, you might not be too bad.

Now I just got another paypal credit payment with a note attached (sorry for the trouble) so something went wrong with his echeck attempt. Is it possible that he is unable to do one with his account? I had suggested that he just go to paypal and click on 'send money' and enter my email addy which worked for someone else. I have received them and sent them so I doubt it's my account.

Prior to emailing him again, I thought I'd try to get my facts straight. Thanks in advance and here's hoping this doesn't become a problem! [/B]

Some people don't realize a using a debit card with paypal will show up as a credit card transaction. Maybe that's it. He might be using a debit card thinking he is sending a "check".

Thank you sandalwood. I can see how that would happen. I will email him back again.

Do all people registered at paypal have access to echecks? Could that be the problem?

I used to switch over to UPS after my items got to be a certain size/weight..but since their last price increase, I'm finding PO very competitive. I sent a hugh dollhouse via Parcel Post from NY to CA, and it was way less than ups..so it pays to check them both.

I agree that the highchair will prob go over $10..heck I just sold a small toy, and form NY to CA it was $7 and change. Add that large package factor, and I think you will get stung.

Doris - did you get my pm???

I guess I need to check my cp more often. With aol I don't get a notice when I have messages.

I responed : )

If they have their checking account attached they should be able to use echecks. If they only have their debit card attached then they will have to verify their checking account, this takes a couple days (paypal has to make two deposits and you have to verify them first).

this is "lat"

Oh no, someone has already used "buy it now" and bought my high chair. I may be just about giving it away if I have to pay so much more in shipping. Live and learn:(

I am sure we all have made this error. But it is the most important less to learn. Weigh and measure EVERYTHING and get a postage estimate from USPS.com, using a ZONE 8 or use the shipping calculator (best for heavy items when shipping can vary greatly).

Maybe it won't be as bad as we think. If it's the one I just looked at, it looks light..and if the winner is in the East too, maybe you won't do too bad. Do you have the box, or will you have to find a bike box, or a box for it to fit.

For anyone who has ordered shipping supplies from the USPS website....

Do you recall how long it took to get them? I ordered some and hoped to receive them before I had to ship stuff out. I have several auctions that closed yestderday and am hoping to get my supplies prior to the payment.

Thanks in advance!

BTW, this was a good week for me; how about everyone else? Again, my kids made at least as much as me (selling their used electronic games) but that's okay because it's all leaving my house! And now they will have money to Christmas shop too!

If I'm correct in assuming you ordered the free Priority Mail boxes, my experience was not too fast.

I think it took between 2 and 3 weeks to get them all - they came in batches. I remember thinking to myself that "free priority mail supplies are obviously not shipped via priority mail"! ;)

But for free, I'm not complaining!!!

Usually a week or so. I too ordered some about two weeks ago and have yet to receive them...but then again they way my auctions are going I won't be needing them :( :crazy2: :worried:

Thanks for both responses. Got a little chuckle too!

I'm not complaining either, just wondering. Now I am also wondering if there's a way we can find out the status of our order. Do you know?

I have a question(again): I bought a pair of jeans on ebay. For some reason my mind doesn't want to admit that I'm not young & thin anymore, so I keep buying clothes that just don't fit. Anyway, can I resell them or is there some kind of ebay/seller law that says you can't resell. I have a scheduled listing for tonight, so if I can't I'll just cancel the auction before it starts and maybe, just maybe I'll go on a diet... TIA

Denise

I've order supplies from USPS serveral times and each time it has taken 7 mailing days for me to receive my items! Can't seem to find a way to track the order either. If you desperately need a box or bag zip into your local Post Office and ask for some there...

It seems to me that many have admitted to buying 'lots' of stuff (especially clothing lots), keeping what they wanted and reselling the rest. I am by no means an expert though. I did get a little chuckle at your post Denise!

Don't they charge for supplies at the post office?

If you have something to mail by Priority then you can pick up free Priority boxes and envelopes in your local PO. You must mail these items Priority.....you cant pick up the free boxes and turn them inside out or cover them with brown paper.

Not for the priority items. My PO actually has a (small) stash of them in the lobby.

I regards to reselling items, I see no reason why you can't resell the item, you bought it, you own it, isn't it your to do with what you want?
