I'm trying to follow-up my auctions with email to winning bidders.

1) I send invoices asap after the auction's end, unless I get an instant purchase through PayPal first.
2) Once I receive payment, esp. through PayPal, I notify thank the buyer for their payment and let them know when I will ship by reiterating my auction's terms.
3) Tonight I started following up this weekend's auctions with this:

Am I being too pushy with the feedback request?

No , I don't think so. We are trying to get the 50 star as well, if all our winners gave us feedback we would be there !

We send invoices ASAP after auction end, unless we get a Paypal instant payment. (We only accept paypal, had some problems with money orders)

If I recieve payment, I then package it up that very night. I send it out using the shipping assistant. The USPS shipping assistant is set up so the seller gets an email with the delivery confirmation #, date of mailing, etc. I think that email may even say estimated delivery time.

Since my auctions end on a Sunday night, I go to the post office Monday AM (as they first open) or PM (after work).

Usually thats it. We leave feedbeack right away, sometimes that very same night we receive payment.

Our feedback says speedy delivery, good communication.

We just started to putting pictures in the item description.. (Good thing Hubby does programming part time at work) I know the pictures are posting here, would anyone mind checking on thier PC? I can PM you the user id!

Also if the Ebay professors could answer another question..

Hubby acquired about 25 PCs from work, and about 8 laptops, plus various computer peripherals. These items went out of warranty (usually one year), and once they go out of warranty, they are considered obsolete. Since DH is considered the PC Superviosor, it is up to his discretion to salvage, donate, or do whatever he would like with them. So far, we've donated, and actually salvaged some.

Anyway, (I'll get to my question here), he was told by the manufacturer that since it is less than a few years old that he could have the original operating system still on the PC's. (basically the one year warranty expired but the period of extended warranty hasn't?). Also the manufacturer stated that unless he was an OER (basically an Official Equipment Reseller another store) the software could remain.

He contacted Ebay Live Help to find out if he wasn't going to get in copyright trouble. Ebay Live directed him to Safe Harbor. We are waiting to hear from Safe Harbor.

Hello, fellow eBayers. Just wanted to let you know, recently ISPs have upper their Spam/Junk mail filters which is causing OUR personal email addresses to be dumped into the receiver's Spam/Junk box. Not many people make a habit of checking it therefore, you might not be getting responses because of that. I have had the same email address for quite some time now and just in the past month I've received several emails from customers asking why I hadn't sent invoice when I had. They would then check in their Spam/Junk box and VOILA' there it was!!! I did a little research and noticed that some Sellers are now posting at the bottom of each auction that if an invoice is not received within 24 hours after the auction ends they check their S/J Boxes for it...

This is kind of frustrating!! My email account is a direcway.com and it stills finds it's way there sometimes--not all the time, though! Weird! I have a friend who I email regularly and 3 out of 5 times it gets dumped off to the S/J Box but the other 2 times it makes it there fine...

Anyway, just food for thought--you won't know if it's happening to you unless you get these requests for invoices or amounts and you've already sent it...

Good Luck!

Someone just retracted a bid on one of my auctions. And I know it's because of an answer to a question they asked me. They placed a bid and then asked me a question and then retracted their bid. You think that people would ask questions first, before bidding! Just had to vent!!!

Question:

Does anyone have Carrier Pick up via USPS???

I'm getting to the point that going to the Post Office is too much of a hassle and I don't expect it to get any better now it's "Christmastime".

I know they do come on a scheduled pick up for $12.50 but I read on the site that you can hand over your packages to your carrier for free. My carrier is a wonderful lady, I know she won't mind.

Just wondering if anyone here has used it.

I'm pretty sure I read the answer to this question somewhere in this thread, but I haven't a clue where, so all assistance is appreciated!

I finally managed to get USPS Shipping Assistant to work, at least for a sample label. I'm going to ship a flat rate, priority mail packet tomorrow and temporarily do not have a scale. I previously weighed the items, and I think they were around six ounces. I know it isn't over one pound.

Since this is a flat rate packet (USPS letter), is it acceptable to enter the weight of 1 lb. into Shipping Assistant (or 15 ounces?). I'll be paying for the postage at the Post Office and primarily need this for the label & receipt for Delivery Confirmation.

Thanks!

If you're going to be taking it to the PO and paying for it there then you can just go ahead and use 1 ounce.. It won't give you a label unless you put some kind of figure in there.. Everything I print a label for gets the "1 ounce" designation.. :)

Okay I've got to vent. I got 2 negatives in the last week. The first was an item I sold just before our Disney trip. When I sent the DC# I told the buyer that I would be on vacation from x day to x day so would have no access to email. Well I get back and there are 3 differents e-mails from the buyer threatening me because the item isn't what they thought. I go out to ebay and sure enough a negative saying item wasn't as stated and I didn't respond. I replied to the feedback saying I was on vacation and tried to contact as soon as I returned with no success. This just frustrates me. Well the second was from an item that I sold clear back in July. All of a sudden in September I get an email from the buyer saying that they never recieved the item. She didn't purchase any insurance so I told her that I would refund the cost of the item minus shipping. Don't hear anything from her than while I'm on vacation in Oct. She emails me and asks did we ever decide on anything. Of course I couldn't reply since I was on vacation and she leaves feedback saying item never sent but seller kept money. I replied with insurance not purchased all other items shipped at the same time arrived fine.

I now have to get back in the groove to start saving for our cruise are these 2 negatives going to heard me? I have 26 positives but these are at the top of my feedback. I just get so frustred at times with this. Thanks for lenting me vent.:teeth:

I thought all bids were binding. How does one retract their binding bid?

Hi all,

I have been registered on e-bay for quite some time and my DH will tell you I have the buying thing pretty well figured out

After reading through some of this thread, I finally decided to try selling a few things. Thanks all! I put up 9 items and all but 1 have bids - yea!

I do have a quick question - it's probably been answered - but with over 200 pages to search through I don't know where to start - and the search function on the boards never seems to work for me.

Anyway, I just had someone e-mail to ask if I would ship to Germany. I checked ship to US only just because I have not researched overseas shipping yet. They said they would pay with paypal and would pay increased shipping. The item is a gymnastics leotard so it is a very small, light item to ship. If I decide to do it - does anyone have an idea of how much extra I should charge and is there anything special I would need to do?

TIA for any help you can give

Go to the usps website and use the international shipping calculator. There is additional "paperwork" that needs to be filled out for customs, on international shipping, but it is pretty simple.

Ebay will let you retract a bid for certain specific reasons but they don't like you to. My buyer used the one that says "Wrong bid Amount" and so after retracting, the buyer should really rebid with the right amount but this person didn't. So I know they really just wanted out of the bid because of my answer.

How do you ship the bulky items?

I have a high chair that I listed on E-bay today that I don't even know how to ship this. I saw someone posted that they will ship for $10, so I put in $10 for shipping.

How do you figure this out?

Also, I have kids little tricycles and that sort of bulky stuff, I would like to list them but I am a little scared that the shipping error may eat off any money that I make.

Thanks for any tips you have.

I hope someone can help me with this paypal issue.

I don't do credit/debit cards. On an auction that ended tonight, someone erroneously paid me with a credit card. I emailed him and politiely told him that I'd be denying his payment. He was a bit confused and apologetic. I said he could either go back and do the echeck or send a money order.

Now I just got another paypal credit payment with a note attached (sorry for the trouble) so something went wrong with his echeck attempt. Is it possible that he is unable to do one with his account? I had suggested that he just go to paypal and click on 'send money' and enter my email addy which worked for someone else. I have received them and sent them so I doubt it's my account.

Prior to emailing him again, I thought I'd try to get my facts straight. Thanks in advance and here's hoping this doesn't become a problem!

lat I'm sure someone who knows more about shipping bulky items will respond with the right answer, but, I would imagine that a babies high chair would run you much more than 10.00 for shipping. Maybe you can weigh it, add your handling fees and use ebays calculator this way you won't be off with shipping fees. $10.00 seems awfully low to me. I have sent out craft supplies to California(I'm in NJ) and the shipping fee was $17.00 and change and the box, even though it wasn't bulky, it was heavy. I also think that ups ground shipping does ship bulky items. Unless, your talking about a highchair for a doll and I misunderstood.
If your talking about a regular highchair for a child, I would adjust my shipping before someone places a bid, then your stuck. Hopefully someone, who really knows about this will come on to answer you soon.

Morning All! Seems the Christmas shopping season has started. The last two weeks I've been putting items up for 10 days and quite a few have bids. Of course some don't, but I figure the last few days/hours of the auction are usually what is most important.

Doris - did you get my pm???

Thanks, C.Ann, for your response on USPS Shipping Assistant! I've printed my first label/receipt and will brave the Post Office at about 8:30 a.m.!

I've only listed 9 items to date, and 6 have sold. They are all things from around the house, primarily plus size clothing NWT purchased for my mother before she passed on and some jewelry from my personal collection (my taste in jewelry has changed significantly over the past 30 years!). No designer labels, just very nice items!

I'm going to list some vintage items this weekend. Some from the late 1940s to mid 1950s, others from the late 1960s to mid 1970s, although I have difficulty considering the latter dates "vintage"!

Speaking of vintage, I have a massive cabinet stereo from 1959-1961 era (based on where we lived at the time!) that I'm considering listing in the future (probably January for collectors who received holiday $) for local pickup only (requires 3 very strong backs to move it!). While the turntable (plays 78s!) and radio work, I am thinking the reel-to-reel tape does not (don't have any tapes, so I can't verify it). I plan to list at a low price ($24.95 or so). Does anyone have an experience with this sort of thing? Would it be better to list at $9.95?

Thanks!

Cats Mom,

Us the USPS.com website. Weigh your package and then go to their site--click on the Calculate Postage link on the top menu bar. Then in the center of the page click on Go that belongs to the Calculate International Postage column. Next click on package (second red bullet down), under #1 To Which Country Are You Mailing? find Germany from the drop-down list; #2 How Much Does It Weigh ? fill in pounds and ounces and then click on Continue. And then choose from the list of mailing options--personally, I usually chose Airmail Letter Post--it only takes about 7 mailing days. I know that Economy (Surface) Letter Post is the cheapest but can take up to 6 WEEKS for the item to get there. I used to ship to Canada that way but would always get emails from my customers 4 weeks after the auction ended wondering where the package was--I always had to explain that it could take up to six weeks--usually makes me and the customer nervous when it takes that long for the item to get there.

Just a suggestion! Hope this info helps!

REMEMBER, use the USPS.com website. That's what it's there for--anything you could ever want to know about shipping is there!

Robinrs,

Your carrier should have NO problem with you giving him/her your outgoing packages. With my carrier, I just place a small note in my mailbox for she stating I have package for pick-up with postage already on them and she kindly picks them up for me when needed... Just ask, it won't hurt!!
