What should I do?
Tell her that she purchased insurance and should contact her post office. That's what insurance is for.

2nd chance offers are just perfect for this..however, I would file an NPB first, and wait a couple of days..just in case your email provider or his isn't doing any blocking, and also so you have proof via eBay you tried to contact your buyer, and it protects you so they can't say YOU are the one backing out of the sale.

 The buyer who received a partially damaged shipment left me a positive feedback!
One of the items I shipped arrived damaged. I got a very nasty e-mail from the buyer accusing me of price gauging, poor packing (I used foam sheets and the item was in the orginal box) and every thing else she could think of. Anyhow, she is demanding that I pay to replace the item--at my expense.

I emailed back a sincere apology and asked if any of the shipment was worth keeping, and if the buyer would accept a partial refund. We communicated over two days and agreed to refund only a portion (amount per broken piece).

Sine you shipped with insurance, the buyer should follow the steps to process a claim twith the PO. Best of luck working it out.

I received an email from a buyer today indicating that her item had arrived with a broken piece. She indicated that she had glued it back togther and you could hardly notice it. She also indicated she had left me feedback. I was a little apprehensive about checking the feedback--but it was POSITIVE!!! The item I shipped was insured but the buyer wants to keep it and therefore does not want to go back to the post office to process a claim. She did not ask for a refund and did leave positive feedback. Should I send a partial refund anyway???

No..that's what the insurance was for. You might want to email (or just move on and not) and reiterate that there is insurance on the item, and that she is able to bring it to the post office and file a claim. It's really her choice, and you did all you were suppose to do.

Do any of you on here that have a PayPal debit card keep money in there to use or do you transfer it to your checking account? If you do keep money in there, is it a little or a lot? I'm trying to decide if I should keep the money there to use the card when we go to Disney next month ar if I should just transfer it.

TIA

I don't personally have the Paypal visa/atm, but a good friend who is also an ebay seller does. She used it frequently on a disney trip we took to CA. She used it mostly as a CC, no atm fees that way. She did use it once as an ATM and again seemed like a flawless transaction.

She keeps her balance in Paypal, and just uses it as she needs. She says this way she knows her budget for each trip. It seemed to work great for her.

I don't have one because our address is a PO box (no home delivery in our small town) and paypal won't issue to PO box addresses.

PS - It is also a great way to "hide" a little for yourself from the family. You never know when you might want to treat yourself.

Hi, Gina - I just got my PayPal debit card, and since I am trying to earn as much cash back as I can, I am letting the balance at PayPal reach a few hundred dollars, at which point I will use the card to make a payment on our cruise. I just did it for the first time, and PayPal did call to verify the charge, so if you decide to use the debit card extensively at WDW, you should probably call PayPal BEFORE your trip to let them know. Hi. Did great on my trains. Really excited.

I have two questions today.

1. I sent an invoice to a buyer. I received a notice that it contained fatal errors (whatevery that is) and I tried to send it again. But it came back undeliverable. I sent a email to Ebay asking what to do. But in the meantime, does anyone else know what to do?

2. I received an email from another buyer complaining about the shipping cost. I set up the shipping for the computer to calculate the shipping according to their zip code with a little shipping and handling charge. She said that it seemed to much, (after she won it). I double checked and its seems right (which I emailed her back and told her). I do know that the box that I am shipping it in is a little lighter than the one I calculated the weight for but not that much $$$ wise. Maybe $0.50. Anyways., the shipping charge was there for her to calculate. I am just wondering what I should do. I mean.......if she checked the shipping prior to bidding she would have seen the amount being charged and decided from there if she wanted to bid right? Anyways, should I worry about it?

Thanks, you guy are all great.

Tamie

Hi Tamie, whenever I need an answer from ebay quick, I always click on "live help", because you never know when ebay will get back to you. So if I were you thats what I would do about the error email .
As for the s/h charge, your 100% right. The calculator is right there for the buyers to use before they bid. I really can't help you about what to say to her about it because I'm so bad with wording things. I'm sooo sure one of the more experienced sellers will help you out. I just hate when a buyer emails me with a situation that I'm not comfortable with. We use the calculator so the buyers can see for themselves what the costs will be. Whenever I want to bid on something I #1: always use the calc. if its there and #2: I never question the price of s/h. Thats what they charge and if I don't like it I won't bid.
Even with your changing boxes, the weight change shouldn't be that much of a diff. to make the price higher. Maybe the buyer is just a pain and is looking for a price break.
In any event if your still unsure of what to do, wait, until someone here suggests something. Someone(here) always knows what to do and what to say to a buyer.

In response to S/H I would simply email the buyer and tell her "I am sorry you feel the shipping and handling charges are high. My S&H includes estimated actual postage, cost of packaging materials and a small handling fee (if you like you can give the amount). I assure you that I am only recovering my costs for shipping the item to you."

If you want you can even list out the costs
Postage $5.90
Packaging materials $1.95
Handling Fee $.75

Buyers do not always understand the costs associated with listing and shipping an item, especially if it is heavy or fragile.

I agree with disneychrista, but I would also add: In my auction I included the shipping calculator so that any potential bidder would be able to access their shipping costs prior to placing a bid.
dg39 is correct as well, there are buyers out there that will try to chew you down on your shipping. Don't give in, just state the facts. You have every right to charge as you are...stick to it.

Keep trying to send the invoice.....sometimes a server is down and will return a message back that says undeliverable.....actually this happened to me last night with a buyer....finally got through on the 3rd try.
If you still have a problem, you can click onto "search", then click onto "find member", scroll down to "Contact Info", you will have to enter your buyers user ID and then the item number, this will give you the persons phone number....so if the emails do not go through, you can always give a call.

Hi,

I've been doing Ebay for over 4 years here and there for extra money. Now that I'm a SAHM and have so much time on my hands (not really, but it seems like it should be that way), I thought I'd start selling a little more. Does anyone know of software that helps you list quickly and easily that isn't a lot of money? I've started to save for our next trip in 2005 but need all the help I can get (with 3 kids and half the income). Thanks.

Okay, we are going to Dinsey ( :D ) finally in a few weeks. Anyhow, the thrift store chain where I get a lot of good ebay deals is having their holiday 1/2 price sale this Monday (Columbus Day). At there last one (Labor Day)-- I spent $11.00 and made more than 10 times that in profit. Anyhow, I'd like to list this stuff throughout Tuesday and Wednesday to try and make a last ditch effort at extra money for our trip (every penny helps). Anyway. If I list them on Wednesday for 7 days. The auctions will end on 10/22. I need payment by 10/28, to mail before we go. Is this feasible if I state this in my auctions and then email them again as a reminder when they win???? I figure about 85% of my buyers pay within 24 via paypal so I should still make a nice little chunk of change.

Kim, have you tred Ebay's free Turbolister? Or do you need templates with pre-existing HTML?

Absolutely. I did this just before my trip in July. I stated in the auction that I was going on vacation July 12 - 18 and that I would need payment no later then then noon on the 11th for packages to be mailed before I left. Most everyone did pay before I left.

Talk about the stupidest things you ever did on ebay. Listen to this. I had a npb a few weeks ago. I filed with ebay and got my fvfc back. I was sooo annoyed because when I relisted, the item then sold for $11.00 and it originally sold for 51.00. Thats a big difference. Anyway. Last night, I was trying to do a million things at the same time. I was on line leaving feedback and helping my daughter study for a history test both at the same time. I was giving a great positive to one of my buyers, but instead of clicking on her name I clicked on the non paying bidders name. So, I gave her the great positive feedback. When I realized what I did, I went to ebays live help and explained to them what I did. They told me to go square trade and explain to them what happened. They also told me that chances are they will look at the npb's feedback history and then determine if the feedback should be removed. They also said that if the npb has any neg.'s that they will most likely remove the positive I gave her. I was so disgusted that I made such an error. To tell you all the truth I hate leaving neg. feedback. I understand that things happen in life and sometimes you can't pay for an item. All I ask from my buyers is that they contact me and tell me whats going on. I'm not heartless. Chances are if they give me an excuse, I won't leave a neg. I just won't leave any feedback. I know alot of people disagree with that and feel that if they deserve a neg. they should get one. BUT, after my item sold for such a small amount the 2nd time around, I was counting the days up to 89, to then leave a neg. to this npb. As fate would have it, she got the glowing positive from me. Hopefully ebay will remove it.
LESSON LEARNED....

Well we leave for Disney in the morning. With the money I've earned since starting in July, I made enough to pay for MNSSHP tickets for 4, exchange fee at timeshare, and about $75 towards rental car. As soon as I get back I'll start working on the cruise money. Since we aren't going till June, I can't imagine what I could come up with. Well basically just want to thank Carol Ann for starting this thread, your the greatest...... Well I guess I better get some work done today...... Talk to you when I return.:wave2: :wave2: :wave2: :wave2:

Just got back from AAA and purchased 2 4day adult hoppers, Signed up with Hotwire savings and purchased 2 breakfast vouchers, 2 Q & L vouchers. This all from doing ebay since August. I still have two months left before my cruise - I hope to get the cash for the dolphin swim for three ($356!). I am going to put a bunch of stuff up this weekend, so hopefully it will start the ball rolling again. Not bad for stuff up in my attic!!
