i got into some financial tight spots over the past 3 years. now i have plenty, but no major credit card. all i have is a visa debit card to access my bank funds. am i in trouble? it didn't occur to me until i was reading that to rent a scooter you have to have a major credit card or show your resort id. i am presuming that showing your resort id means that you put major credit card on file when you checked in at your (disney) resort.

uh oh

No you don't have to have a major credit card. Of course that is preferred but not necessary.

No, you do not have to have a major credit card. Your debit card will be sufficient. Disney will probably block some funds on that card to cover room charges. Not sure how much, but I am sure you can discuss that with them.

Disney does not block any funds on a Credit or Debit card given at check in, they will run a verification of $.01 through to make sure the card is valid. The only reason you will need a Debit or Credit Card on check in is if you want room charging privledges. I would do that in the OP's case to make it easier to rent the scooter, but not it's not required.

You do not have to leave a cc or debit card. The only thing with not doing that is that you can't do express check out if there is no card on file.

We have never had them authorize more than what we spend on our debit card. We always check our bank account while we are gone (dh always has to work on vacation so since we have the computer I get online and balance the cc account since we only use a debit card).

As for the scooter, they will charge your card the full amount plus the deposit then credit the deposit back when you return it. At least that is the way it was the last time I rented a scooter at WDW but thats been a few years.

Have you thought about renting from an offsite place? We used Randy's Mobility, it was cheaper and easier, they delivered to our resort and then picked it up. If you check out the Disabilities Board here on disboards, there are all sorts of information on this and various companies people have used.

No plastic necessary. They don't "prefer" that you have a credit card. They don't prefer anything. All you need to check-in is photo ID.

Nope. Not even a little bit. The 2 responses from NJRRK and Amy&Dan are correct. NO HOLD. NO PRE-CHARGE. NO NOTHING.

Disney is unlike almost every other hotelier in the country. They absolutely DO NOT ask for plastic or cash as a "deposit" or "for security" or "for incidentals." No such thing at a Disney resort. Like I said, the only requirement is that one person named on the reservation have photo ID.

IF you decide you want to set up a room charge, you can do it with your VISA/MC branded debit card. You can also do it with cash, travelers checks, and so on.

As mentioned earlier, the only reason the hotel front desk would NEED a credit or debit card would be if you want to set up exprress check-out, which means on check-out day you don't need to go to the front desk to check-out, don't need to call, etc., you just leave.

We don't have a major credit card and have stayed at the resorts no problem. I believe we used our debit card. Call first and ask! I also travel with prepaid credit cards and that has worked great. Good luck

The first time I stayed on property as an adult, I didn't have a credit card yet. I paid the deposit by check when I made the room reservation, paid the room in full with cash when I checked in, and bought food and souvenirs with cash. Of course, that was many years ago - but not that much has changed. You can most certainly pay for everything with cash, with a debit/check card, with traveler's checks, or with a credit card. I think the only method of payment they no longer accept is personal checks.

Disney does not hold any money from your debit card if you use it for charging purposes to your room. They put a $1.00 verification through.

We use cash for everything possible. Our last trip we put cash down and our charging privledges were the same as anyone elses. This was not a problem or a hassle. We asked, they said "No problem". Done deal.

As the other posters have mentioned, you don't need a credit card. We usually put cash down on our room account when we check in and then we use our KTTW to charge things to the room. When we leave we are refunded whatever cash is left over ;)

The only time I found I *had* to have a CC on file (either major card or debit card) was when I wanted internet access at the value resorts. I thought I could just pay for it when I hooked up but the site required my card to be on file at the desk. I don't know if it is the same at mods and deluxes but that was my experience in December 2009.

You will pay a small fortune renting a scooter from Disney! Other posters are correct you can use your debit card.Renting from Walker Mobility off site is what I did! They were great and more affordable! They will have your scooter there when you arrive and pick it up prior to your leaving! They also take debit cards and they charge it the day you are to arrive!

How do you put Cash on your room. I do not want to use a credit card and like this idea. Could I just give them $500 cash upon check in and use that for my room key. Would I get the cash back that was left or a credit?

Quick question, please! This is nice to hear as I hate having my cc on file at hotels. I'm staying at AKL and this is the first trip for both of us together and the second for both of us period.:)
So from the info here, I can just go to the front desk and I just give my photo id? Will they then ask if I want to use a card to charge things to the room? If I want room service do I need a card on the room? We get awfully lazy on vacay and usually get room service at least once. Good thing there is no minibar....:rotfl:
In your experience, since he went as a 12 year old once and I went as a 23 year old - should we check in online (do they ask about a credit card then?) or do the long check in at the counter?

Yes, I give them cash at checkin. Then, when I check out, I get any cash balance back, as cash.

For safety, I usually get a traveler's check, then cash it at the front desk, then use that cash to put on the room.

I've gotten pretty good at estimating costs, so I ususally have less than $20 to get back....airport money for the way home :)

I've only done online check in once so far, but will always use it from now on. They do ask for a cc, but you can decline. Then you check in at the special line when you get to your resort. It is usually quicker, but it really depends on how busy they are when you arrive. Never know if a ton of onlines get there the same time as you, but from what I've read it is not the norm to have to wait long.

It has been years since I used room service, but when I did you did not need a cc. You just pay the person that brings the food. This may have changed, that was back in 2003.

Thank you, This is the perfect compromise for my DH and myself. He like to charge things to the room and I want to pay cash for everything.

nor do I get charging privileges on my KTTW card. I pay as I go, usually with my DVRR. I bring Travelers Checks & cash them as I need them at the Front Desk. I take about $50 in cash with me each day. I found when we took a cruise (only option is charging to your room) that I too easily lost track of how much we were spending. Yes, I know there are ways to control that, ie. checking your balance periodically, but I do better paying as I go.

This is very good news for us!! We have in the past put a CC down, but this time we wanted to do cash but like the convenience of charging to the room! Thank you for solving that for me!!:thumbsup2
