This isn't directed at anyone here, just a little rant.

I have friends IRL that count KC twice.

"I got this item for $20 because I got a rebate AND Kohl's cash!" That is instead of the $55 they paid up front.

Then, when they used their Kohl's cash they say, "And I used my Kohl's cash, so it was really only $2."

You pay for the KC on one end or the other. You can't include the discount twice. :headache:

That is all. Rant over.

Love it. Along the same lines, I have friends that will tell me that they have a great coupon for something and that I should use it. Well no thank you, I can save more money because I don't want or need that item. I refuse to spend money in order to save money.

But hey, if you are shopping at Kohl's and you get KC and later on you need some other things, more power to you, but I totally get what you are saying.

Plus I've noticed that when they are giving out Kohl's cash, their items aren't at the cheapest price they will eventually be at.

For example, we needed luggage and Kohl's had a set on sale for $80 and they were giving away Kohl's cash.

Three weeks later, it was on sale for $60, with no Kohl's cash promotion.

Love it!!
Also love how the cashier will say 'oh, you saved a bazillion dollars today!' Like I would really pay what they say the original price for the stuff I buy there?? No way.
Usually I wind up with 1 or 2 Kohl's cash coupons & I just give them to my dd so she actually can say she got something for nothing, lol.

Another thing that Irks me at Kohls. If you look at the monitor as they are ringing up, each item is scanned and comes up on the list of items purchased.

Below that list is a number in BIG RED NUMBERS...Is this your total for purchase? No it is your total saved. the total for the purchased is smaller and at the bottom of the screen. I can't tell you how many times I have done a double take after watching things ring and then hearing the total.

I don't know why, but this just annoys me.....

I have done very little shopping in kohls this year. I get dizzy trying to keep track of the barrage of coupons that arrive in my mailbox... 15% off today, 20% starting Friday, etc.....

Kohls "sale" price is actually the normal price. I priced out a coffee maker for my husband for his birthday. The Kohl's sale price was exactly the same as the Target retail price, and the supermarket retail price. It wasn't a sale at all.

I did eventually buy it there because I had a good coupon for an additonal % off.

They mark up their prices, so when you get a "discount" it's really actual retail price, but you think you've gotten this incredible deal.

The MA attorney general actually fined them for their pricing practices when they first came here. There is some law that says in order to say something is on sale you must sell it at it's retail price for a certain amount of time in the month in MA.

I love Kohl's....however, I never pay regular price.

I went a couple of days back & got 3 shirts. I wanted some cute short sleeve tops for our Disney trip & found them there. They were on sale 1/2 off...which made a good price. Then I used my 20% off coupon..so I found a great deal.

My total was about $30...& they gave me a bonus $10 Kohl's cash anyway. Which I used yesterday on another top that was 1/2 off...Thought I did pretty good.

But...I know what you mean on the regular Kohl's cash...you really pay for them & they get you back in the store to spend it. Smart marketing stategy!

Kohls regular prices are so jacked up, I hardly ever shop there anymore. I am shopping way more at Pennys now.

I agree that KC is not free, unless you are talking to my DH. Then girl math is accurate and I did save 90%. :lmao:

Most people are bright enough to know that you never buy an item at Kohls at the "regular" price.

You buy when they are 50%, have a 20 - 30% off coupon (which ANYONE can find if they just google for it) and then even better you can earn Kohls cash.

Kohl's is great if you play the system....if you just walk in wanting to buy something without a coupon or discount, you're likley spending way too much money.

Are KC and coupons a gimmick? Yes! Does Kohl's jack up prices? Absolutely! but, I have also gotten some incredible deals at Kohl's, especially on clothes from the "end of season" rack. It is the job of the educated consumer to know prices and know if the are getting a good deal or not.

Exactly! I never buy anything at Kohls that isn't both on sale and has a coupon (must be 20% or 30%, for some reason I won't buy with the 15% ).

If its a big purchase (like a Dyson or something), I monitor prices for awhile and then jump with the sale and coupon when the price is right.

If you play the system, it can work!!

:thumbsup2

My personal 'rule' is that I never buy unless its on sale for 25% off AND I have a 20% or more off coupon or code. If it's not on sale at least that much, I wait...

Yeah, you're dead-on, and this is one of my pet peeves too.

However, it's clearly a sales technique that works. People like thinking they got a good deal, and the stores know that people use fuzzy math when it makes them feel good about their choices. In the case of Kohl's, their system works brilliantly because the shopper must return to the store the following week to use the Kohl's cash (can't let free money go).

I try to only go when it is "Lowest prices of the season" and I have coupon. If I have a 30% I may use that during a regular sale.

I only go to Kohl's when they send me an advertisement in the mail that includes a $10 off any $10 spent. Then I go in and buy two candles at $4.99 each. Hello free candles. :lmao: That's the best math I can find in the store.

I haven't gotten one of those in a long time!

The best purchase I ever made there was in the clearance section. I needed bath mats. They had to huge Ralph Lauren pink mats, the price for each was 4 dollars. I have no clue what the regular price was. No KC used. I paid cash. They lasted about 2 yrs.
