You could get (really!) wet...

We had a surprise soaking in the 1st row of our boat in Pirates of the Caribbean last week. When we exited, I asked the rather amused CM what that was all about :confused3, and he said that it was since they introduced their new boats on the ride. Lesson learned the hard way in our case, so I thought I'd give you all a heads-up! We used to love sitting in the 1st row on POTC, but not anymore! :lmao:

yep. happened to us Sunday (Nov 16) at the MVMCP. We were very surprised so we just went ahead and rode Splash Mountain to finish our soaking.

Haha! I rode Pirates on the 16th at the party also, and got wet. The whole floor of the first row was soaked when we stepped on so I figured it was coming!

Yep,there's been several threads on this,it happened to us last December. We don't ride rides that get you wet at night so when we rode it at like 10-11pm we were shocked by how wet we got. After having ridden it countless times and never gotten more than a few drops enter the boat we weren't too pleased to get that wet with no sun to dry you off.

I'm sorry you guys all got wet! There have been threads on this issue before on the Disboards. I can't believe they still haven't cared enough to fix it. Who wants to get doused with all that filthy, grimy water!

I'm telling the castmembers "Not the 1st row!" when I go in a couple of weeks.

This is one of my favorite rides! This sucks that this is something you have to worry about now.

And people are reporting their shoes getting soaked. Like, that is where I draw the line. You can get wet on Splash Mountain but it's basically just your upper body and many times you get hardly wet at all. But it seems that because on Pirates, the water is coming in because I guess the top of the boat is actually going under the water briefly, the water coming in goes right on your sneakers! Ugh, that would definitely be something that would ruin my entire day! Almost nothing could do that in Disney, but having to walk around in sloshy, drenched shoes for the entire day would definitely do that.

I got pretty wet in the front row in late July. Luckily, it was a sunny day, and I was wearing water sandals and shorts. I remember commenting to someone in line about how I preferred the MK version over DL, because of the lesser drop and less water. We had a lot of time since the ride got stuck and we were in line for 45 minutes. I felt like I had imagined what it was really like before until I read about it on here. I don't like getting wet on rides.

I swear we always end up in the first row, but I don't remember getting super wet last Dec, maybe we just got lucky! So, is it safe in the other rows to not get wet? And, if I request to not sit in the first row, will they honor that request?

We never do rides where you get wet, though I'm considering trying splash mountain once this trip. Is there anywhere on that ride that we could sit so as we don't get wet?

It's not just the first row, I'm afraid. I was in the second or third and got nailed by a cannon blast in the scene with Barbossa.

Hmmm, well thx for the heads up! I'm gonna have to try for the last row and hope I don't get wet in that row. I do remember now that on our last time, the seat was wet and it all ran under our behinds so the seat of our pants were all wet.

I did take a picture of the new warning sign outside POTC on my trip. There is now a warning that you could get wet. Ever since the new boats were installed there have been several threads on this.

We had front row in August and I remembered the threads warning of this. We lucked out just a few big droplets of water on my shirt and shorts, shoes were OK. The floor of the row was soaked though when we boarded.

We rode it yesterday and were seated in the front row. I was concerned when I saw water on the seat and floor, especially because it was freezing yesterday morning! I told the kids to pick up their feet slightly on the one small dip. We got a tiny bit of water on us, but nothing too bad. Holding our feet up a little helped our shoes from getting wet, which was my main concern.

So, just ask to be seated in the next to the last row. Whichever is the last row they seat, then.

Thank you for posting this! I thought I was crazy for not ever having noticed the "you might get wet" sign before, and I got soaked this past Saturday. I was not in the front row either, but I was all the way over on the right.

We got soaked in the front row last month as well! We requested any row but the front for the rest of the week. The third row even left us pretty wet on our last ride of the trip!

I've ridden in the front row a couple of times and I only got really wet one time. Here's what I think was the difference: when it was just me and the kids in the front row we only got a little wet. However, when I rode in the front row with my in-laws who are both quite large, we got soaked. With the extra weight at the front of the boat I could see the whole front of the boat go under as we hit the bottom of the drop. Maybe it was just a fluke, but it seemed to make a big difference.

I can see how extra weight in different areas can make a difference... Guess this is another "poncho ride" for me! Lol. I don't mind it in warmer months, but please not December! Even in December, I'm mostly concerned with having wet feet!
