My mom would be so thrilled. She insists the expiration date on sour cream is just put there "so the company can make more money".

As would my dad who bought 10-12 jars of mayonnaise at a salvage store dated 1998!!! But it was only 19 cents a jar.

He never ate any of the mayo - although he thinks we used it. I just bought a new jar and threw away one of his every time we needed mayo. He's still bragging about his "find".

Taught by my mom when I was ever so young..."ALWAYS CHECK EXPIRATION DATES"...now years later, I have my DS' checking dates...we are a little obsessive about date checking prior to eating OR purchasing anything. AND TODAY almost everything has a date on it........

Aside from the expiration date, how does one know when sour cream goes bad? Does it get sourer?
