You are parked in MY spot, please move your car!

At the job I was laid off from, there were about 12 executive parking spots and my boss had one of them. They were numbered, with a shade structure. Anybody with an ounce of common sense wouldn't park there - they were all assigned spaces, for executives.

Building security asked that we write down license numbers of illegally parked cars; and one morning when someone was parked in my bosses' spot, I took a photo with my mobile phone to give the info to security. I didn't notice that someone was in the car in the passenger seat, and she stuck her head out of the window and demanded to know why I took a picture of her car. When I said You're parked in my bosses' spot, and I'm giving your license number to security so they can tow you the next time, she FREAKED OUT and said, You don't have to do that, can you delete that picture? And I said, no, I'm not going to do that, can you move your car? And then the sob story, Oh, my boyfriend is turning in workmen's comp paperwork, he's only going to be a few minutes, etc etc and Can't you just delete that picture? I told her no again and went into my building. WHERE did these people get the nerve to do this stuff? These were corporate VPs FOR THE COMPANY YOU WORKED FOR - park in the one of the 8 empty handicapped spots if you need to, that's why they are there.

OP you didn't do anything wrong, parking in visitor parking is absolutely acceptable. Visitors can park and walk, residents should have first crack at parking in the lots. I would absolutely report her for taking your spot, you should not have to park in another space, vacant or not. How rude of her!!

I feel your pain...we have a no excuse rule here, if you are not in your spot or a guest spot then you get towed..I have come home many times and come up to my apartment and tell DBF that if I go back down in 5 mins and the car is still there I am calling the tow truck....

But you parked your 2nd car in a spot meant for visitors.

Where are visitors supposed to park if the residents "grab" visitor spots?

She shouldn't have parked in your spot, but you also should not have taken up a visitor spot when you are only allotted 1 space per car.

The girlfriend should have parked on the street, but you should have also parked your 2nd car on the street.

In our complex we are allowed 2 cars per unit, so that would be the one assigned and one guest...and if we have more then 2 cars i.e. my parents we have a guest pass that they must put on their car or it will be towed..

the street was full (street is always full as I mentioned before, its the most "desired" spot to be), so where do I go now? We are a secluded complex, so we are about 3-4 blocks long parking on one side of the street, thats it. We are also off of a main highway so can't park OUTSIDE of the complex either.
There's about 20 or so visitor spots by the pool, which is a little bit of a walk, but spots are always open there, no one likes to park there b/c of the walk. There's also other visitor spots scattered around (there 2 by our little lot, 5 in the next lot, etc, then by the pool is the swarm of just visitor spots). And I guess I shouldn't say "allowed" one spot per household, I guess your are given an assigned spot per household.
Where would you park your 2nd car?
Bottom line, we pay to live her, she doesn't, don't park in my spot!

I completely AGREE with you!!!!!!!!!!!1:thumbsup2

I get the feeling that you don't understand how most shared parking lots work. In most places, where you are assigned one spot, if you have another car you are told that you must use a "visitor" spot for the second car. So the OP did the correct thing by parking one of their cars in a "visitor" spot.

OP I feel your pain. And for the poster that was complaining about you parking in the visitor parking, I think you misunderstood. The "visitor parking" is actually additional parking anyone can park in and the owners each have one assigned spot.
Our neighbor is like that to. They were actually parked in our spot on time when we drove home from Disney. They were outside and we asked them to move it so we could unload-our 2 kids, and all of our stuff. They didn't move it until almost an hour later. We were annoyed to say the least. Now when we leave we park our other car in our spot.
There really is no reason for people to be like that. It makes me even madder because in a development such as that where there is common property the parking spot really is the only thing that is all yours.

Do you have a security department? I live in an apartment complex and I would call the management office or the security department to complain. They would send a security guard to their apartment and tell them to move the car out of your spot.

City living is so frustrating! The people who park next to us are always right up against the line and crooked - makes it very hard to open my door.

I understand your frustration, and you have done nothing wrong. Don't keep defending yourself.

When we lived in our apartment, like you, each apartment had ONE assigned parking spot close to your apartment. These were numbered - 41A, 41B - so there was no guessing which spot belonged to what apartment.

All the other spots were deemed "visitor" spots and it was open to WHOEVER needed it. WHOEVER needed it was deemed, a 2nd/3rd tennent of any apartment, a service company vehicle, or a guest of a tennent. "Visitor" did not indicate that those spots were only for someone to park there if they didn't actually live there.

I would pretend they are ignorant and tell them the parking policy and then follow it up with warning them that you will be calling a towing company next time.

Or you could pretend to be ignorant and call the towing company anyway and say "Oh that was your car??? I didn't realize it because I figured the residents know the policy!"

I know the apartment complex that my son lived in had paid assigned parking.

If you wanted to park there you had to pay for your spot.

They had two cars, so they paid for two assigned spots.

The visitor parking spaces were for just that, visitors to the building, not people who lived there.

In all the apartments where I've lived, we had one assigned spot that we paid for, and we were told to use the Visitor spots for our second car. "Visitor" in those cases didn't really mean that the spaces were reserved for visitors, it meant that visitors were allowed to park in those spots. We were allowed to have up to two cars, but were we only permitted to pay for one assigned spot so residents with more than one car had no choice but to use visitor parking.

So OP what ended up happening? Did the girl ever end up moving her car? You are much nicer than I am - I would have called a tow truck last night.

Seiously? If it is anything like my complex we are told to park our second car in visitor spots.

In my complex we have one assigned spot per apartment. For those with more than one car (most apartments) we are told we have to use the guest parking. There is a lot of guest parking, about 10 spots near my area of the complex and tons of it at the front and rear of the complex.

We have the same issue with occassional guests in the apartment below deciding they do not wish to walk from guest parking and taking spots. Though people here don't play around. We tow!

Op, Did she ever move? I would have left a nasty note. Saying next time she would be towed out of your spot.

I hate parking issues! We have the opposite problem. It's all street parking (public streets) and we have one set of neighbors who make our lives miserable because they don't want us parking near their house. It's not even that we're blocking them -- they just don't want us parking there. After talking to various town officials, we've come to just ignore their griping because we're in the right.

Anyway, what happened? Did you ever say anything, and what happened when she moved?

Just a few thoughts, as my DD and DSIL HAD the same problem in their complex...1st I would NOT call a tow company, they have to get paid & unless you're going to pay for it you can't just call and send them to the other persons house...2nd who do you pay your rent to? A HOA or a management company? I would definitely take pictures showing the car & all identifying ways to show they are in the wrong spot and then make the company handle it...worked for my family...hope it works for you ...what a pain in the a$$ to have to deal with

The person who gets there vehicle towed is the person who pays the tow company. They have to pay to get there car out. The person who calls doesn't have to pay .

This is something the OP should probably ask the management about. All of the apartments where I lived had an arrangement with a particular tow company. Residents were told not to contact management about someone parking in their space. Instead we were told to call the tow company who would tow the car away, and the owner of the car had to pay to get the car back. There was signs posted around the parking areas with the tow company information so people who parked in someone else's spot would know who to contact about their car.

Of course the OP's apartment management might handle parking disputes differently, so it's a good idea for her to be sure about how they want her to proceed before she calls to have the car towed.

I agree with the suggestions about taking pictures. It is a good idea to document everything that happens, especially if this continues to be an ongoing problem.

Ummm, what? :confused3

OP here,
When fiance came home last night he said that the car was taking up both spots (ours and his, the car was parked smack in the middle). When we got up @ 9, the car was gone though.
Fiance actually told me that that car IS NOT the neighbor's GF's car, it is actually HIS car! His GF drives a truck he said (remarkable how DF knows more about the people in this complex than myself :lmao:) Usually there is never ANY car parked in his spot b/c he parks on the street whenever possible.
I honestly don't know who I would report it to, I guess management :confused3
Like I said, its a pretty small complex, everyone pretty much knows the rules so I don't think they have problems like this often. Fiance also said he seldom parks in the "No Parking Zone" that is for emergency services only (fire trucks, EMTs, etc.). I don't think he gets a ticket b/c cops rarely drive down this complex.
Anyways, we don't want to cause trouble, we try and keep to ourselves, we are polite and say hi to neighbors and what not.
This guy actually kind of gives me the creeps, he knocked on the door in January (he moved in in Sept I would say) mind you I really don't know him, just that he's my neighbor now and he knocks on the door and asks me if I have a "colandra" that he could borrow...I had no idea what he was talking about! He said you know what you put spaghetti in to drain the water. I didn't know what to do lol, I gave him the "colandra" and within 20 minutes he was knocking on my door giving it back lol, its weird he really doesn't know me, kwim....odd!
