You (And George Bush) Should Read This

First; That graph is from 2004. God only knows what it is now. Second; The man didn't start from zero. He went from a 2.5 surplus to a 4.43 deficit in less than four years. Factoring that in, he sure went over the 6.0 mark, and that was from 2004! I'm sure we broke some sort of record by now.

In those terms, I'm not sure, perhaps it is a record. But it's not a very relevant one when discussing historical budget deficits.

The 2005 budget deficit was $318 billion, which represents 2.6% of GDP.

Argh! Today's GOP is NOT the Party of Lincoln. Just the opposite! Though I agre with the sentiments, and you quoted the greatest American in history

Relax, anybody that has to go all the way back to Lincoln to find a decent republican is truely grasping at straws.

One of the biggest things I am not happy about with the Bush administration is the spending.

But, in his defense (I cannot believe I am actually defending the spending!) since 9/11 we've had to (1) rebuild New York (2) fight a war in Afghanistan (3) fight a war in Iraq (4) rebuild New Orleans, among other things.

And, if you're curious, other than the spending, I am not happy at all about the open door policy for illegal immigrants. The borders should be secured.

There are two major things I seriously disagree with the administration with, so I can't be labeled a blind Bush supporter. I do support the war.

But if the surplus wasn't decimated, in large part by that misguided excuse for a tax cut, we would have had the money for all those things! Sorry, but it is his fault.

The tax cut is a very big reason why, in the midst of 2 wars, an attack on our soil, and a major natural disaster, our economy is so robust. We came out of a mild recession, to a good stock market, practically full-employment, strong housing market, etc, etc.

If that money was not given back to the people who put it in there, it would not have made it back into the free market.

A brief reminder to anyone who doesn't like the tax cuts and thinks the deficit is too high. When you're filling out your taxes, there is NOTHING stopping you from paying extra! Put yer money where your mouth is.

I'll put my money back into the economy. The private sector can use it a whole lot better than the politicians can!

Do you really want to get involved in this one, Puffy? When I see two Republicans like Mossman and Bet going at it like this, I grab the popcorn end enjoy the show... :teeth: It's nice to see that there is a hint of debate within the Republican Party after almost 6 years of bowing to every one of King Georgie's wishes...it's encouraging, to say the least.

All this does is point out the inspections weren't 100% perfect. We know that. That isn't the issue. The fact that the inspections weren't 100% perfect doesn't magically make the war a good idea.

The real question is did the inspections work. They did. And did the work at a vastly lower cost than the war? I think the answer there is clearly yes.

You make it sound like we all got a windfall from Uncle Sam that we can lavish on the free market. Speaking for me, I'm not seeing a lot of difference, but then again, I don't own an oil company ;) . I own a small business and I put back what I can into the economy and if giving up that so called tax cut would give us back the surplus we once had, I would do it in a heartbeat!

The tax cut was excellent and helped the economy recover resulting in increased tax revenues. :thumbsup2

The problem is needless spending, e.g the arts and farm subsidies.

Bold mine.

I'm sure the limousine liberals will be leading the charge. :rotfl:

So we are up to our armpits in debt because of the Trillions we spend on the arts? Come on Joe, it's not even a drop in the bucket.

You're certainly passionate about bashing the country, that's very clear.
Very insightful Pluto. You obviously have a keen political mind. I've never heard that analysis before. Let me see if I got this right:

If you oppose Bush, you must hate America.

Thus only those who support Bush, love their country.

So what are the latest numbers? Close to 70% of the American people must hate their country.

It's a start. I just gave some examples. There's pork everwhere.

All billions (and trillions) start with the first $. ;)

I'm surprised you didn't ask him how many times President Bush, defender of modern Conservatism, vetoed those pork laden bills? And do I have to remind anyone that the Congress, who sends down these outrageous spending bills, is lead by a Republican majority? Please!

You keep talking about the "mess" this country is in because of President Bush. Sure, every year of every decade, there is room for some improvement, but what mess?? I wouldn't want to live in any other country. I'm excited about this country's future (despite the libs).

Veto veto I say!

I would start with selling those thousands of unused trailers and mobile homes that FEMA's got stockpiled and rusting away. And how about forcing our good friend China to remedy those trade discrepancies and letting us sell some of our stuff over there. Everything here is Made In China. Turnabout is fair play. Or is it enough that they are underwriting our debt?

Sensible Democratic and Bipartisan sponsored bills don't even make it out of committee!
