Hi to all....

Will be starting a new exercise program lifting weights a couple of days a week and looking for something else............

Yoga or Pilates? If Yoga do you go to a class or use a tape at home?

Have tried Yoga and like it - never did Pilates.

Opinions please!!

Thanks and have a magical Disney Day!!::MickeyMo

Hi!

I just joined a gym a couple of weeks ago. I am taking a "body sculpting" class. I have it this morning. It feels GREAT!

If I had to choose I would pick Pilates. I believe that may be more "exercise" than yoga but don't quote me because I am not sure. Maybe this will help.

Pilates- A body conditioning system created over eighty years ago by Joseph H. Pilates. Initially popular with dancers and other performers, the Pilates method has become popular in the fitness world. Exercises performed on the floor, or on specialized equipment, Pilates coordinates mind, body and breath to develop sleek and functionally strong abdominal muscles, a strong and supple back, and aligns the shoulder girdle.

Yoga- Any one of several paths of spiritual discipline intended to lead a person to deliverance from samsara and the realization of moksha--i.e., to at-onement with ultimate reality. Specifically, it means a "yoking" of the self by spiritual discipline, a method of training designed to lead to union of the human spirit with ultimate reality and release from the limits of the individual ego. Also called margas (paths to salvation). Normally following a yoga involves apprenticeship to a guru (spiritual teacher or guide).

Disney are releasing a new exercise DVD soon with Johnny Depp - it's called:

"Pilates of the Caribbean"

 :jester:

I, personally, like yoga better, but I think it depends on the class and instructor. I do body sculpting and spinning (cycle) classes, so I find the stretching in yoga to be very beneficial. It is also very relaxing for me. If you do yoga, definitely do a class. The tapes just aren't the same, and it's easy to do it the wrong way..

Pilates will probably give you a better overall workout and be a bit more of a cardio workout, which you need a little of. Is there a way you could try both yoga and pilates? A lot of people in my yoga class do Pilates also. I would but it doesn't fit into my schedule.

I've been doing Windsor Pilates since April and love it. The body sculpting is awesome. I have done Yoga as well but prefer pilates over yoga.
