This is why I coach:
Yesterday, when I got to school, there was an orchid in a pot (I am going to try my best not to kill it) and a card on my desk in my office. It was from one of my softball players, who I was told couldn't keep her composure so she brought it while I was on morning duty...
The card reads: "It takes a special kind of person to care enough to take the time for others, to do whatever it takes to help somebody out. For everything you have done...for everything you have given...thank you very much."
What she wrote made me cry yesterday and still brings tears to my eyes as I type:
"Dear Coach Majors, You have done so much for me. I do not even know how to thank you. I thank you for always supporting me and for being a shoulder to cry on when I needed one most. You have taught me more than softball. You have taught me character and to always go for my dreams. Your determination and dedication to our team as allowed me to mature into a young woman. Thank you for everything that you have done. Love, Jordan."
This is why I coach...
You see....all those people who run the school are not nearly close enough to the situation to have any authority over the decisions they made about you. There is so much more to that job than explaining how a game is played. Its apparent that the principle made the dumbest choice possible and may have just lost a very good thing.
