I licked a birdbath because I'm a ninja.:lmao:

I hope that squirt was from a water gun and not part of his "outdoor plumbing".

This is from a boy who peed in his "athletic cup" after a game and left it on till it was time for bed. I just shake my head.:confused3

I licked a pickle because I'm a ninja. :lmao: Thanks, I needed that laugh.

My house was hit by lightning last night! We are really lucky though...the house is still standing! We're still waiting on the structural people to get here. We have some shredded wood in the attic and a hole on the corner of the house under the roof line where it exited and travel down the gutter down spout. It blew the phone box cover off and into the yard about 25 feet away! We have a ton of fried electronics....the surge protectors strips did nothing for 'em. Tv's, modem and router, my work voip phone, sterio receivers etc ..all toast. Strange as it sounds...the power stayed on...but the cable and phone are out?? Oh well, the kids are ok and the house is standing...so we are LUCKY!

WOW!! I'm glad you all are ok. Good luck with all the damage, that is crazy. Thank goodness your family is ok.

Anyone heard from Debbie today? :confused3 I haven't noticed her post. She's usually popped in by now. I hope her husband is okay. He was having a problem with his back.

Awww, thanks, Phyllis! I was actually BUSY at my office yesterday, and then had to work at THD last night. I left home at 7:30a & didn't get home until 10pm. Can you say, POOPED OUT?? DH is going for an MRI on his back tomorrow. We'll have to wait & see what comes of that.

Sonya- Lightning struck our former home once. It was really weird, as it struck the cap to the fireplace in the family room. This HUGE electric ball hung in front of the TV in the family room for only a split second, but long enough to imprint on your brain. The picture tube on that TV was de-gaused, but otherwise, okay. The drywall nails on either side of the fireplace "poked" out, too. The lightning nailed everything on one particular circuit which led to the master bedroom & garage. It got the TV, VCR, cordless phone, & clock radio in the bedroom. In the garage it got the garage door opener & timer to the sprinkler system---but not the air handler for the A/C. It also got a water pipe under the slab that must have been too close to wire mesh or rebar. Thankfully, we noticed the sound of running water in just a few days, or we would have had a sink-hole under the house.

Do as Jen said....have an electrician check EVERYTHING. Oh, and BTW, surge protectors do not protect against a lightning strike. They only prevent a power surge on the electrical lines from harming equipment. If you truly want to protect expensive electronics from getting fried, you need to get a battery back-up. We have one on our TV & sound system.

Battery back up won't help. Lightning can and will jump the circuit board. Lightning can jump from the clouds to the ground it can jump a circuit board Just ask my neighbor it fried every electric circuit in his house. Even the Batteryback up and his Generator. Not to mention the firewood all over my back yard when the lightning hit the tree next to this house. The clean up crew said the lightning hit the tree jumped to the house fried everything in there came out the electric meter down the wires to the generator fried it ran back up the power wires to the tranformer that the nieghbor hood shares fried that and than jumped to the ground. The tranformer box looks all swollen now. the lightning also fried every thing that was hooked to any electric circuit in the house from light bulbs to TV's even his Gas stove

I will post a picture of the electric box just as soon as I can take a picture and upload it.

You're correct on one point....if the lightning directly hits the electronics, ZAP, POOF, POP!!! Gone for good. However, if it hits the romex & travels via that path, the battery back-up will take the hit first. Bottom line, nothing is sacred when it comes to lightning. You can only protect yourself the best way you know how.

I have seen lightning do some weird things - living in the lightning capital of the country (West Coast of Florida). Back in the days you HAD to rent telephone equipment from your local telco, I saw many a phone that had been melted by a direct lightning hit. I've also seen "glass" made from lightning running thru the ground or sand. It makes a beautiful "tree branch" like pattern.

Those so called "surge protectors" do more harm than good. I have seen a few actually be the cause of the fire. The last big storm we had knocked power out to a little over 1/3 of the community I work in (old, poorly maintained infrastructure) The only fire we had on my shift from the storm was from a surge protector.

I was right, na, na, na, na....;)

Good (late) morning all!!!

Today's useless fact:

More people are killed by donkeys annually than are killed in plane crashes

I'm still stuck on the spider one. I figure I sleep with my mouth closed so someone is eating my share of spiders at night each year.
