Psssst....Listen UP!!! Scott's trying real hard to play "Where's Waldo"!!! The name of the day for the "ignore thread" is.... "Are Tents Allowed in the 1400 Loop"

Your mission, Fort Fiends, is to "IGNORE" that thread today!:rotfl2:

You know that you can change the name too! Put it into stealth mode so scott can't find it!

We were once fishing on a guided excursion in front of the GF when a guy all dressed in a suit and tie asked the guide to move us cause someone complained that us fishing was making them ill. I'll never stay there even if it was free.

You know, I liked the GF when it was first constructed nearly 20 years ago. I stayed there a couple of times then. About 4 or 5 years ago, Scott had a business trip that put him up at GF and he was so not about the place. I couldn't imagine why. Then I went back for a vist and realized that it had become really stuffy and upity. I mean, its an upscale place but it is still Disney! I really don't get the point of pretense.....or why anyone would be on the beach at Disney in a frickin' suit!

Having said that, I'd still like to take my girls there once. Meija would NOT be all about it, Lexi would think its fine.....but Annalise would LOVE it! She is such the "pamper me I'm a princess type!"

Gotta say...still love the Poly. No, it isn't Hawaii....but gosh do I have some memories wrapped up in that place!

You know, I've never been able to figure out the pricing of the Disney resorts. None of them come even close to 4 star quality, but they charge rates that are well above most real 4 star hotels - you pay for the location I guess. That's why I like the SoG - big rooms, very nice resort at a good price and great location. That's hard to beat.

I'm going camping tomorrow for a few days - may be the last time this summer :confused3

ARRRGGGG.

So I gotta get my post count up past 5,000 before I leave!

What qualifications do you have to have as far as military service & status to stay there? Can you be a guest to someone staying there?

Active and reserves, retired, 100% disabled, and you can stay if an eligible guest sponsors you. We've done that before. Look on the website for more info

They also run a special for veterans in September and January IIRC. All you need then is a DD214. You need to make reservations well in advance though. They tend to book up fast.

Thanks, is DD214 honorable discharge?

Animal House just came on AMC...I wish John and Jim were on and doing their drunken commentary!!!

OOOOH I am here, I aint drunk (that was last night, first time in about 4 yrs) See my review on my site, but I am up for a great classic movie!

OH man, I turned it on right as they are going to kill the horse in the dean's office! GO FLOUNDER!!

Here comes the I'm a zit scene! I love this movie!

I have to disagree with most of the comments here, I've visited every resort and never once felt like anything was stuffy or people were looking down on me. I guess it's all in how you view the world around you (not meant as a negative at all). Now, not liking a resort, I get that, I'm not big on the Poly myself, I love the outside theming but the rest I don't care much for. And I don't care if it's a Disney ripoff, I'm there to visit Disney, not the actual Polynesian ;)

Last time I visited the GF, I was wearing camo shorts and a John Deere shirt. Maybe I just don't pay much attention to the people around me, but I never once felt like I didn't fit in. I've partied with bums, I've partied with rock stars, I've partied with millionaires, it's just how you present yourself. Plus I'm normally staying at a Disney resort for the experience of the place, I could care less about who else is staying there...lol.

I should tell my FIL about that. What are the rates usually?

Shades of Green is one of the best kept secrets in Disney, so many people don't even know about it. Of course, considering that only military people can get in, not surprising, but I've always heard great things about the place.
