Yo Ho, Yo Ho, A Pirate's Life for Three... C 32, P 39 - The End...Or Is It?

And we were avoiding it like the plague. So as we left, we used all the distracting tactics we had as parents (I think we may have even covered his eyes at one point lmao: ) and completely avoided another meltdown.

We were getting good, my friends. We were on to his game. :thumbsup2
Oh, how I wish I had a picture of this. Hehehe. ;)
And what is with the go go boots in the lab???? Are we trying to prove we can be stylish and smart? Come on, people, we already know that. At least color coordinate her outfit better. Yellow tights???
I think we need to start a letter writing compaign to get that girl a better outfit!

It was getting late, so DH and DS went to retrieve our stroller, and I went along to get our free 5 x 7. Why did I go alone, folks? There's c-a-n-d-y in that there shop. IT'S EVERYWHERE!!!! :confused3 ;)

I ended up selecting a really nice photo of myself, DH, Mickey, and Pluto. No DS. He was sleeping, remember? :cloud9: And I have to be honest. I can't remember the last time I had a really nice photo of myself and my husband with the characters along like that. Certainly before DS was born, and not that there's anything wrong with that, but it was just really nice. It's a testimony to our strength that day. Well, mostly DH' strength. And my margarita. ;) Suffice it to say, I love that photo.
Very, very nice. :wizard:

Even though this day started out horribly, it ended very nicely. That's the Disney Magic for you....oh and creative parenting skills! :thumbsup2

I mourn the loss of Jeremy Irons on SSE, also!

Jammies on and watching Wishes from your balcony -- I love this mental image!

Score one for the parents! :rotfl: Seriously, isn't the dump shop itself enough?....I mean other than something like Mouse Gears where you choose to go in, just leave it alone already!

I guess I should be grateful our issues are only with candy, and not stuff we don't need...yet.

In all honesty, DS is amazing when it comes to putting toys back on the shelf. It's very, very rare that he expects you to buy him something. And, he's such a great kid in that regard, I can get away with taking him to the Dollar Tree to let him pick out a toy, and he's happy as a clam. I.E., the rubber snake. :lmao:

We really enjoyed the interactive area after the SE ride! Normally I'm one to take a quick look around and then move on to the next big thing, but here I slowed down and didn't rush my kids through it. They were in computer-heaven! DS6 and I did that 3-D Build-a-Body thing more than once! And he did a pretty good job himself of racing to save the city. Lots of fun in there!

Me, too! Especially when I have the extended fam with me. But on this trip, I tried to just go with the flow and be in the moment.

Well, yeesh, not much I guess!! Maybe watching them from your comfy room in your jammies while sipping a LapuLapu?!! :rotfl2:

Alright, you've done me one better. ;)

Ok, srsly, you are lapping me in this TR writing business and you were there after me!!! I think I need to block off some time tonight and get writin'!

.

And you know what? I feel like I'm going horrendously slow!!! I finally finished our second day. It only took me, what, over a month?

Oh boy. :confused3

Even though this day started out horribly, it ended very nicely. That's the Disney Magic for you....oh and creative parenting skills! :thumbsup2

That's the perfect summation of it.:thumbsup2

Hooray for the power of the power nap and the margarita!!!

:worship:

Never underestimate the power of a good nap. Or a good margarita.;)

I mourn the loss of Jeremy Irons on SSE, also!

I just love his voice. I think it's one of the only reasons I can tolerate Scar. Who is my least favorite villain. For many, many reasons. Except the voice.

Jammies on and watching Wishes from your balcony -- I love this mental image!

You just hold on to that, okay? Ms. ILikeToResortSwitch. ;)

ARGH! CP, as I was writing replies, I thought of something I wanted to tell you and promptly lost it. Dang. Hopefully it'll come back to me.

I love his voice, too. Something about a deeply resonant voice, sigh. C'mon, not like Scar? He is so deliciously villianous -- a modern Shere Khan, if you will. :rotfl:

Fireworks in jammies or hot chocolate in a rocking chair while watching giraffes on a misty early morning? It's a tough call, let me tell you!

Oh, I hope you remember, TK!

I am going to make a note of choosing the language in SSE! I am the person who never pays attention. I would probably be just like your DH and DS, listening to the whole thing in Japanese! I'll get my culture fix in World Showcase, thank you very much!

Watching the fireworks in your p.j.'s sounds like a perfect way to end a day!

I'm happy to see that you and DH quickly figured out a diversion tactic for the candy in the dump shops!

Wishes from your room in your jammies. :cloud9: I think I may have to try to switch my December reservation. Or book bounceback. Or both.

What's wrong with go-go boots and yellow tights?? That's what I wore to work yesterday. ;)

Sounds like a wonderful rest of the day! :thumbsup2 Now I can't sleep until I think of your "incorrect" challange. I know there was something that bothered me, but I'm not sure what. If I guess wrong, will you tell me what the answer is?

That's funny about the Japanese narration! I always want to choose Spanish as the language on our grocery self serve line, but DH won't let me! :rotfl:

Keeping the candy away from your son - $10.00 saved.
Watching fireworks from your balcony in your PJs - priceless. :thumbsup2

We did get smarter as the trip went on. I was quite proud of us.:thumbsup2

Of course I will. And the big hint is that it's something that bothers me as an artist.;)

...I cannot imagine the diversion tactics I'll have to dream up to keep four kids from getting a case of the "I wants" after each ride!

Just how many cast members does it take to get Figment moving again?

93?

How many cast members does it take to fix Figment? :rolleyes1

4?

Now at this point, the cavalry had arrived. And by that, I mean the big guns. We had men in dressy clothes, people. With radio handsets. They must have heard Ms. I's desperate plea to fix Figment. There were at least five or six of them. So let's count, eh? We had two CMs in labcoats, Ms. I, and five or six dressy men. Shirts, ties, etc. And nametags. Of course. :thumbsup2

Hot holy CARP! You witnessed the ever elusive Disney Secret Service!

I melted. Into a big ole mama puddle. Right there on the ride. It was messy.

Messy, but better than any of the other kinds of puddles one might find near the teacups.
Or Mission Space.
Or Star Tours.
Or a bathroom in Canada.

Now, I did love the new scenery, as I said, but I MOURNED the loss of Jeremy Irons. I mean, MOURNED.

Right there with ya, sister. At least they still have the old version on Live365. They have the "old" Living Seas preshow too.

::mournmournmourn::

I was rather, er, surprised by the length (or lack thereof) of her skirt. Or was that a bandaid? Are you kidding? EVERY lab tech, doctor and nurse I know where's their yellow tights with go-go boots to work. Heck I wear my yellow tights and go-go boots to work.

Every. Darn. Day.

Really, really, really? I didn't know the old version was still available!!! I must find it! It must be listened to! :yay: :yay: :yay:

Why, that's standard at the bank. I just didn't know anyone else did it. ;)

I hear it most often on the MouseWorld Radio channel.
Also on MouseHouse radio.

Right now I'm listening to the MK background music.

Every morning should have a lil' Disney.

:goodvibes

I so miss Jeremy Irons too. I really preferred his narration or Walter Conkrite's. Judi Dench's did nothing for me really. A bit bland for my taste.

Sounds like the day went so well for you.

See, I LOVE me some Queen Mother Dench, but I grew up on the Irons version and that's what me wants!

I enjoyed her narration, it just wasn't the same. That was my problem. Just like when we were walking through the queue for the Nemo ride. That area where you used to stand in the big round room waiting for the hydrolators and/or the movie? Yeah, loved the Nemo ride but mourned my way through that room.

I'll check that out during DS' nap today.

I grew up with the Jeremy Irons one as well. You know, it's like how they changed the Tiki Room. I used to love the Tiki Room! New Management? Seriously? And the part where the Tiki God gets really, really angry? Um, yeah. Suffice it to say then two year old DS had a good cry over that and we swore not to go in again until he was much, much older.

To See Characters?

Suffice it to say, the sixteenth dawned a new day. We would hope, right? I mean a new day being an old day would just be a weird day. Or something like that. Where was I?

Ah, yes. This day held a lot of promise, my friends. It's the day we were to attend Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. And I write in full, as it deserves to be written in full. Because even though we're not even going to come remotely close to the party in this chapter, and I am fairly certain it will take me several chapters to write about it in full, let's just say that it was the BEST Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party I've ever been to. Ever.

And that's all I'm going to say about that right now.:rolleyes1

Back to the morning at hand.

I was so nervous about our breakfast at Chef Mickey's, but some nagging little voice in my head told me not to cancel. My Jiminy Cricket, if you will. But I was very, very nervous, given DS total aversion to characters thus far. Of course the boys were in the bathroom when we got paged, but they seated me and we were in the same room as the past two years, which I actually prefer. It's that smaller room in the back where you can look out and just have a great view. And it feels more intimate being tucked in that little back corner. I even speculated to DH later if the time of our reservation had anything to do with it. I know they seat larger parties back there as well, but I wonder if they have the later ressies there, too, since this time, it was just the three of us. Ah. A Pirate's Life for Three. pirate: pirate: pirate:

I digress. Who's surprised? ;)

So the lovely hostess asked me my husband's name and what he and DS were wearing. That was some nice service, right there. So as they were arriving back in the lobby area, DH was called by name by the hostess and brought to our table. Which startled the heck out of DH, but I thought it was as nice touch and teased him a little about it. It was quite funny, too, before they got back the nice hostess was explaining the routine to me. "And you'll want to put your child on the outside so the characters will be able to say hello," and I started shaking my head slowly and explaining our dilemma, and she abruptly changed gears and said with a smile, "And you'll want to put your child on the inside so the characters will know to just wave." God bless her. She got it. So, at their recommendation, we put DS on the inside, making a parental wall between him and the characters. :thumbsup2

I went to get some food for DS, and aimed for fruit. I was shooting for healthy, folks. I was wrong.

He instinctively knew there were better things to be had. So we headed down together, and passed Goofy on the way. And DS panicked. And hid behind my legs, gripping them with little three year old death grips that screamed oh my goodness, what are we doing here and why is Goofy here? I was worried. He wasn't crying or screaming or anything, but clearly something was amiss. :guilty:

After I brought him back, DH graciously offered for me to get food first. Since I was starving, I didn't pass on him being so gentlemanly, and I went to partake of the buffet. On a side note, I love the breakfast at Chef Mickey's. It's not fancy. It's not anything unordinary. Now, I know I can be a signature dining snob, but sometimes you just want a good old fashioned breakfast. It's just perfect, with a hint of Disney magic thrown in. We are truly Chef Mickey's people. Something I would realize more than once on this trip.

Now, while I was gone, there was a little conversation that took place.

I like to call it Disney Magic, but really, it was ALL my DH. :worship: :worship: :worship: Have I ever mentioned how much I love this man? If not, let me say it again. See, while I was gone, DH and DS had a little chat. And I don't know how DH did it, but somehow, when I came back, DS wasn't afraid of the characters anymore. He even wanted to meet them.

So I sat on the outside, with him in my lap, and we waited.

Mickey came by first. Isn't that how it should be? :goodvibes

And DS smiled! :cheer2:

And talked to him, and showed him his race cars. Remember those? How I bought the Buzz one, and how we already have Mickey, Goofy, the monorail, etc. Those cars would become a godsend. A talking point. As would some other key treasure, but that's later.

I swear, when DS and Mickey were talking and as they gave high fives, I almost cried right then and there. I was so grateful. That he was okay, that my husband was an amazing father who could turn something around so easily, that he was showing them all his race cars and offering them his breakfast, it was adorable. So DS tried to feed Goofy, and Goofy patted his belly like he was already full.

And can we just give homage to the duck for a moment here? Donald was AMAZING! And I am always amazed, because Donald is ALWAYS amazing. And I never expect that. I expect him to be a short-tempered foul, one quack away from disaster. And he's always wonderful with children, and he was so good with my son.

He played with those race cars with DS for at least five minutes solid. One of the benefits to a later breakfast time, folks. As people start leaving, characters have more time for you. Dang, now the secret's out.

Anyway, Donald played with those cars, raced them back and forth across the table, and then took and raced them back and forth across that big ole bill of his! I was hysterical. I was laughing, I was almost crying, and my boy was so happy. He giggled. Like only little boys giggle, and it was just one of the best feelings ever.

I have a deep and abiding love for character interaction. It's part of the theater in me that won't die, it reminds me of improv and when I did plays, and all of that. It's just the fun of it, the quality of it, the magic of it. Never mind the deep abiding childhood love of certain characters. And I want that for my boy, and he had it. In spades. If I posted pictures of us, these would be the ones I would post. But for now, you'll just have to be satisfied with the duck.

Racing DS' Cars Across His Bill

Playing Race Cars Like Only Donald Can

And this...

DisneySept08-0692.jpg

See, at the end of our meal, Goofy, Mickey, and Donald were all in the room with us, and the few diners left. Mickey grabbed a carpet sweeper from one of the servers and started cleaning. Apparently, he's a chef whose not afraid to get his hands dirty and clean up after himself, savvy?

Now in Mickey's great zeal to clean, he was backing up and just bumped right into Donald, who was playing with our DS for the second...or third time.

And then, it was on, my friends.

DisneySept08-0702.jpg

I swear, I thought I was going to see a Mouse vs. Duck smackdown right then and there, with good ole Goof as a referee. Just as I thought Donald was about to get his brawl on, Mickey apologized, and the day was saved.

PHEW! ;)

I mean can you imagine the feathers that would fly? :lmao:

After breakfast, which was a rousing success, on the character front and the eating front (the boy actually ate a decent meal), we decided to head over to the shops. On this trip, I hadn't really wanted anything for myself, but oh the toys for DS! I was so going to do Christmas shopping for him in the World! :thumbsup2

DS was so well behaved. He touched a lot of different toys, but he was very, very good about putting them back. We decided to head over to the arcade, and I had a lot of fun. I played skee ball. By myself, and with DS, which is an art in and of itself. I won against DH at ice hockey. I was so proud. I never, ever win. After we'd had our fill of game time, we showed DS how to feed the tickets into the machine and trade them in. Our spoils? Two rolls of Smarties (DS picked those, who's surprised), a green and blue swirly bouncy ball, and a multicolor Slinky. We still had some points left over, but planned to save them, we knew eventually we'd be back.

It was finally time to head back to our hotel, for the customary before MNSSHP nap. :cloud9:

Up next - Did anyone actually sleep? ;)
