I found out about YNAB(You need a budget) from this board back in January and I love it. I emailed when my trial was over to inquire about discounts.

I usually don't post but I wanted to share with you that YNAB has set up a standing 20% off discount for all members of the board that drop them a line and ask for the discount.

I've been a member forever but I can't post the link.
contact YNAB here → ynab.me/contactus and mention that you are a member of the Disney budget board to get the discount.

This is awesome! Thanks for posting! I discovered it from this board as well. I searched for a coupon code and found a page from their site that says they don't generally offer coupons, but if you are referred from a member you can get $6 off, as well as $6 for the referring member. But 20% is even better!

That's great! The YNAB team has amazing customer service. I've also known them to extend the free trial by a few weeks for people who still needed to build up the funds for the program. 20% off is great!

Thank you! I have been hearing a lot about YNAB between this site and another that I belong to. :-) Would love to give it a try - I currently use Mint which is great but I need to account for where my money goes.

The link is not one of those referral links. It is just a link for disboard folks to use to get the 20% discount. If you do a chat with ynab cs like I did and ask for it, I'm sure they will give it to you that way also.

I tried to wait for a Steam discount but I did not want to have a gap between trial and purchase with lots of transactions waiting to enter.

Thanks for the discount info! I finally started YNAB today and I can already tell it's going to be great for our needs.

OP, thanks for posting this. I had been doing the trial of YNAB and love it. It was time to pay up yesterday and I really didn't want to pay the full price so I followed your instructions and emailed customer support. I got a reply very quickly (less than an hour) with a link to my 20% off discount.

Thanks to you and YNAB!!

This is a great deal! I'm 3 months into YNAB and it's been amazing for us already!

Thanks so much for posting! We are still in our free trial period, but would love to purchase. We are really liking it so far! :cool1:

I just wanted to mention if you take the free classes, they give away a copy of the software at the end of every class. The classes are really helpful and at the end of the 3rd one, my name was chosen for the copy:cool1:

I do love YNAB so far. We started in March and it has been a huge eye-opener. We have a B2B cruise on DCL in Europe in August 2015 so we are trying to save every penny we can for the trip.

Thanks for this thread. I read it last month during my trial period and hoped the discount would still be good when it came time to purchase YNAB. I emailed customer service, mentioned I was a member of the Disboards and had a link in my email for the discount less than an hour later. Easy! It's a standing discount for Disboards members so make sure to use it when it comes time to upgrade your free trial!:goodvibes

Are the classes online? I grabbed a copy of the software last year and found it really hard to get started. Classes would help a LOT!

Yes, they are online. I found the learning curve steep as well, I'd never used zero-based budgeting, so I had to train myself to think differently about money.

The classes are live and interactive online -- you can find the schedule here: http://www.youneedabudget.com/support/training-and-education

They also post materials and recordings if you can't work out a class time:

And the forums are VERY helpful! I never actually took a class, just spent enough time on the forums until it clicked.

At the bottom of the home page there is a tab called support. There is a ton of information there!! Be sure to check that page also.

I've considered getting it. Do you have to do the envelope thing to make it all work? :headache: I hate carrying cash and faithfully pay off my SWA visa each month for every day purchases + some monthly bills but I'm using the snowball method for paying off old debt. It's working & I'm about to pay off bill #7. :yay:
I know I need some budgeting help because occasionally I need to stop paying on debt and redirect my snowball elsewhere. So it's working but I feel like it's not the proper way. :confused3
20% off is great. How much does it usually cost?

To me, the whole point is that I don't need to use envelopes (or cash). I think of it as virtual envelopes. You put in that you spent $7.12 at Burger King on your SWA Visa. It will deducted $7.12 from your "fast food" category and show $7.12 as debt on your Visa.

I think of each line on the Budget page as an envelope. Some I spent from often (e.g. groceries), some a few times a year (e.g. birthday and other presents) and some once a year (e.g. RRSP contribution - the Canadian version of a retirement savings account).

No, I put everything on cc for the rewards.

It is $60 regularly. Worth every penny

I tried to use cash the first month I used YNAB but it was much harder to keep track of that than using ccs and using the budget categories, plus I never remembered to give DH cash, so he'd end up using the card and then I had an excess of cash.

For me, it's much easier to just use my budget categories as my "envelopes" and pay everything with a cc.
