Hi,

I originally booked with a AAA/AP rate of $270 per night...not great but, we were excited to be going back to Disneyland! :goodvibes

Yesterday, my husband said that he received info about a conference scheduled at the same time we were going to be in DL...he asked if the convention rates were better than what we had.

Heck yeah, the rates were much better! The rate was $189! :yay: Also, the park hopper rates were much better too!

I was able to cancel our ressie, and re-book with the new rate!

I'm so excited! I love it when we "save money" (my husband thinks it's funny when I think I'm "saving money" on our expensive vacations!)

Disneyland here we come! :dance3:

Great for you and your family.

Enjoy your trip!

Wow I dont think I would pay that much for a room. Talk about saving money Im thinking 59 bucks a night to lay my head is steep enough but that is the cheapest without being in a cardboard box.

People must like differnt things I like to be in the park all day and night sleep and back to the park I go no need to spend a ton on a room Im never at.

If you knew DLH rates, you would agree this is a relative "good deal". Let's not rain on OP's parade.

Congrats, OP! :yay:

try looking at the NY prices, makes the DL resort hotels look like hotel six :rotfl:

bluegrizzlies1: We have done both off-property and on-property. We normally look for the best deals and sometimes use our hotel points for our hotel.

This trip, we really wanted to stay on-property. We haven't taken a family vacation together since my older son went away to college 2 years ago. When we are on-property we tend to go back and forth to the room and pool throughout the day. It's just more of a relaxing experience for us. We don't feel like we have to do the 'commando-type' visit when we stay on-property either. We also like the fact that our kids (15 and 20) can walk to the parks thru DTD without having to take shuttles back to the hotel.

It's a good thing that everyone has so many options with the surrounding hotels/motels as well as on-property hotels. That way you can choose what works best for you! ;)

As for the convention rates, my husband received the information because he is attending a conference and they offer these rates at DLH. It was great timing!

Im not saying I would never want to stay there it looks very nice I just cant justify the price.

Im glad you got a better rate and I hope you enjoy your stay Im sure you will.

I did the fantasmic reserve seating and I loved it and would do it again, but there are people that think Im crazy to pay for a free show, but I tell you what it was nice not to fight the crowd.

congrats to the OP! we too lucked out:goodvibes had already planned a trip to DL this summer/booked room last year to stay on Harbor Blvd, onsite was out of our price range.

luckily, discovered that there was a convention that i was qualified to attend during the summer ALA:banana: . Im a volunteer, support staff for local library. Was able to switch our dates around to coincide beginning 6/28

Paid my registration fee & booked @ less than $200 a night (all taxes & fees included) @ DLH for run of house room...wound up w/upper floor pool view wonder tower:thumbsup2

FYI, the rooms are blocked off for conventions & mine was handled by an travel company (who required creditials...i.e. registration #) before accepting ressie.

my husband is going to a convention this coming september, and we got convention rates for GCH. why not see if you can upgrade? we stayed at DLH last year and every time we passed by GCH to walk to the park, we wished we were staying there.

You think you got a good deal? Check this out: I booked 6 nights at GCH with 4 8-day park hoppers for appx. $3750. Figure the 4 park hoppers go for appx $750. that means for the 6 nights I'm only paying like $3000. BUT WAIT...

I didn't mention the 4 tickets to Mickeys Toontown morning madness those should be worth like $400...
And the preferred parade viewing I'd say it worth $75/person so that another $300...
The collectible pin and lanyards which must worth another $400...
Don't forget the collectible coin!!! Someday it will be worth $1000...
And the (?-free-?) Disney Visa backpack worth like $300!!!
Add those up and that's like $2400 worth of extras!!! :yay:

So $3000 - $2400 worth of extras and I'm only paying $600 to stay at GCH for 6 nights!!! That's only $100/night to stay at the Grand Californian Hotel with a theme park view!!!:thumbsup2

:worship: You got a good deal too!!!

I made my own thread about my sweet deal because I don't want to hijack goofyfordisneys thread with my own good fortune!!! ;)

Sy-

I loved you're post! I must admit that I had to read it twice before I realized that you were kidding about the $100.00 per night at GCH!

Hope you have a great trip!
