yikes that was expensive - just bought our plane tickets for our August, 2017 WDW trip

ugh...the airline i just forked over $14,000 to is in the midst of a very nasty work dispute with the pilots...
flight after flight after flight after flight have been cancelled....
the only good thing maybe, is perhaps this will mean there won't be a strike in the summer???? yeah...right...wishful thinking..
seriously....3 days after i bought the tickets the strike started...
did i say strike? ...no of course not, the pilots aren't striking...they just seem to be getting sick an awful lot...like every single day...all of them...

We loved staying on site but I feel torn now after our most recent trip we did not plan a single thing apart from the 1 day we booked mnsshp!! We didn't even gave accommodation booked after departing the cruise.

There was something so free and inrush ed about the trip it was lovely we slept late we went to bed early we randomly decided to visit a park at lunch time we, if we got hungry we drove til we seen somewhere we liked the look of. Last time we had dining plan I felt like when we was hungry we couldn't eat as had a reservation booked in a few hours so either ended up do hungry we had passed it or not hungry at all as we had caved in an eaten a snack a hour before . The days we had booked character breakfasts worked out best for our family as then the days were free to just snack or q's as we fancied

At least with 3 week on site you will hopefully feel you can take some time to relax and enjoy your resort.

I will do on site again when avatar land is open

i totally get that vacation and now much prefer it myself..
the problem is this is the "big trip" with the whole family, including a 3 year old and 1 year old..
so things will have to be relatively organized, including lots of napping time etc..
we'll get up early in the morning - as the kids do anyway - but we'll take it very easy in the afternoons...

when my kids were little, we never got back to the parks in the evening...we always planned on it, but the kids were pretty tired even after naps, so we took it easy and swam in the afternoon or went to something else (like that science place for kids, and that wonder house place, etc)..

the kind of vacation you describe is what i did with my best friend a few years back..
we were best friends in university...we hadn't seen each other in 35 years!!!!!!!!!!
we met at disney for 3 days...such a short time i was worried that it would be too little time..
i was worried we wouldn't have anything to say to each other..
i was worried we wouldn't like the same thing...
etc etc etc
and apparently she was similarly worried..

as it turned out we had a magical time!! we just played it by ear....
we stayed at art of animation in a lion king suite (so we each would have our own bathroom)..

she had an AP and i had a 14 day ultimate as i was staying in town for a conference..

we just sort of went with the wind...
we roamed from park to park without a plan...
ate wherever the spirit moved us...
we went to MNSSHP but didn't prebuy tickets...we walked up to the park - there were still tickets for the party, so we bought them and went in (had a great time there)
we went to food and wine at epcot - i'd never been and really enjoyed it..

we did a bit of hotel hopping on the monorail (something it turns out we both enjoy doing)..

and we had a blast....like we hadn't been apart for 35 years..

the only bad thing was it was only 3 days....it was just so easy and pleasant and without any pressure at all....wonderful!!

coming back in to add that this friend is the one i first went to WDW with back in 1974...at the end of our freshman year in university....we drove down from baltimore and camped for a week in fort wilderness in a pup tent....and imagine - there was only a magic kingdom back then...it's so hard to imagine that....that there was only one park...the magic kingdom..
anyway, my very first visit to disney world was with her way back when... such great memories...then and now... :)
