I am so mad! I can't believe I broke my toe! There is a huge bruise under it and I can hardly slip into my mules. I'm limping along cus I can't put much pressure on my right foot. How on earth am I going to walk about 300 hundred miles in 3 days at the parks??! We leave on Wed (9/13). Any suggestions on shoes and such? I'm thinking (hoping and praying!) it could be much better by then...

Ouch! I'm sorry about your toe. Did you see a doctor for advice on how to best take care of it so it heals quickly?

Don't be afraid to rent an ECV or a wheelchair if you need one. Plan ahead now and call your resort and tell them about your toe. Perhaps you can get a first floor room close to the food court and buses. Try to keep your foot elevated when possible--this may mean taking more breaks than planned.

I hope you feel better soon!

Thanks, Kelly! What's an ECV (pardon my ignorance)? I hadn't thought about calling the resort...I may have to do that. I'm afraid I'd feel very foolish using a wheelchair for something as goofy as a broken toe. Oh, I'm just so mad at myself! No, didn't see a doctor because there's nothing that can be done for a broken toe, but a nurse told me to keep it elevated as much as possible. Ha! I'm leaving on a trip to Disney in 5 days and I have a 2.5 yo!

About a year or two ago I broke my toe while cleaning my room. (I share this because I think I broke my toe so I could stop cleaning! :rotfl:) It was in the early fall some time and I had just started coaching my girls youth hockey team again. I would get out of my skates and put sandals on because I thought it was less pressure on my toe. I finally went to see a doctor because the pain had gone on for more then a few weeks. He told me wearing sandals was my biggest mistake and I'd probably made it worse. He told me the best thing to wear is socks and a good pair of sneakers. (I'm sure your pain won't go on that long. He took x-rays and I found out it was more then just the toe I broke.)

Good luck with the toe and enjoy your trip!

If you follow the link in my signature to get to the disABILITIES Board, you can find information about renting ECVs (electric mobility scooters) on the disABILITIES FAQs thread.
Depending on the resort you are staying at, close to the food court or main building might be a preferred location, which you won't get unless you paid for that location. It may help to ask for 1st floor or close to elevator (if they have one) ahead of time and ask at check in for a good location.

I'd still go to the doctor, if I were you, and ask them what they think.

While you're at WDW, don't hesitate to rent an ECV; that's what they're there for. It's hard enough walking 5+ miles per day even without a hurt foot -- with a hurt foot, it would be agony and you could injure your foot further. Take advantage of all of the conveniences you can! (Plus, if you're wheelchair/EVC-bound, I think you might even be able to bypass some of the lines on the rides!!)

Oh, you poor thing! I can't imagine how you must feel. A wheelchair or ECV sounds like that is the right thing to do.

Enjoy your trip!

Hi my suggestion is to find a comfortable pair of sneakers and a comfy pair of socks to wear. Also before putting your sneaker on tape your toe to the closest toe in order to give it support, it should feel a ton better by just doing this. Of course during down time, elevate your foot and ice your toe. Don't forget the pain reliever :thumbsup2 Have a great trip :wizard:

Very few. There are a few lines that are not wheelchair/ECV accessible, but all of the lines at the Studio and AK are "Mainstream Lines" where wheelchair/ECV users wait in line with everyone else.
Most of the recently built or renovated attractions at MK and Epcot have Mainstream Linnes. There are bypasses for a few lines because they were not able to make the regular line accessible.

I hurt my back last year and though I could walk for short distances, could not stand for long. I rented an ECV and not only did I have a great time riding around in it and I did! But I also learned they are great for carrying things, easy to use on Disney transportation and give you almost no lines for rides. There was one tour I couldn't go on, but everything else was great. It might even be great with your 2.5 y.o. She could ride on your lap when tired... Do check out the ECVs. They might be just the answer!

Although I did do the same thing with my kids  , the papers you sign say that you aren't allowed to ride with anyone on your lap. They do make a great "pack mule" as you also said.

You may want to make your first stop at the UK. That little pub stand outside. Ask for a half-yard. After 4 or 5 of those you won’t even know you have toes. :)

Sorry to hear abour your toe...I think taping it to a fellow toe and putting on good tennis shoes (I like new balance) is the way to go.

I did this a few years back and I had a newborn to boot. I was heading to Disney in 2 days and I fell down the stairs. I went to the hospital because I couldn't put any weight on it at all- and it turns out my foot was broken not just the toe. They wanted to put me on crutches after they wrapped it and I burst into tears. I told them about the baby and the Disney trip and they took pity on me and put me in a boot walking cast- those ugly grey strappy things. But let me tell you I was able to keep up with everyone. And my foot healed properly. Go to the Doctor- Oh and by the way I was given a pass for the day to use fast pass whereever it was available.

Trip before last I broke my toe the morning we were leaving for Disney - caught it on the door facing of my bedroom. It pretty much stayed numb all day while we were driving and when I took my socks/shoes off that night, the entire side of my foot was black. The good thing (if there is a such thing) is that it stayed numb the entire week and caused me no problems as long as I had shoes on. When I tried walking to the pool barefoot, the pain was terrible.

My kids were jumping off the toy box last night -- I told them that we are 6 weeks away from WDW -- if they break anything now, they will still be in a cast and won't be able to swim. That got them down really fast.

I have to agree with the other posters, go get it looked at. It will cause you a lot more problems in the future if you did break something in your foot. I learned this the hard way!!! I didn't want to mess with going to the doctor for something small, and now I have joint problems that could have been avoided. Sometimes its better safe than sorry. If you do find out that its only your toe, try taping it to a popsicle stick, sounds funny, but I have been told it works really well.

i've broken both my little toes by banging them into the wall and fractured the top of my foot running..you'll be fine in 5 days..put on a sneaker, not sandal because you'll be paranoid about someone stepping on it..take tylenol or whatever makes you feel better. the fracture i had was the worst pain ive ever had second to my c-section, of course, but within one week i was able to walk on it. keep packing!!

My wife did the same thing the day before we left for an extended vacation at Cedar Point. We were at the park for three days and all three days we rented a wheelchair. As long as we wheeled her to a ride she had no problem waiting in line with the chair parked outside the queue. The key is moderation. You should be able to walk some, but not all the time. Take frequent breaks.
