YIKES! I need help-quick

I'm in the process of painting my dining room a deep cranberry color. The problem is its much darker where I did my trim work, I mean a lot darker. Will this correct itself with a second coat or am I going to have to start over? I've never worked with a color this dark, its pretty but I can't leave it like it looks right now.

Is the paint on the wall dry yet? Usually when paint is wet it looks lighter then when it is dry.

yep - red is VERY hard to paint.

I'm assuming you did the trim first, and now are painting the bulk of the wall? i'm sure it'll all even out.

did you use a primer? if not - you MIGHT have to do a second coat...some walls just suck up red paint

Just did a red wall and it took 3 coats (without a primer). Really really dark colors will require this. don't worry about it but do plan more coats.

Thank you all, very much. I called Lowes and the guy who I spoke with said he didn't have an answer for me. I will be doing at least another coat, and no I did not use a primer.

Now, when you say "trim work", do you mean where you cut in with a brush along the edges? If so, it should even itself out after the next coat, since you will not be going over those areas again with the roller. And, yes, reds do take at least 2 coats to cover well...sometimes a lot more. Good luck with your project!

On one of the home improvement shows, I saw the designer paint the wall pink first and then the red over the top. It made the wall a beautiful deep color and looked very even.

I have used dark colors before and it takes paitence and you have to roll slowly and evenly. Definately two coats. Good luck!
