Yikes! Huge price jump in 2018!!

I did the Dream twice and I would like to do the Wonder. When their new ships come out, will probably try one too. Other than that, I don't see myself sailing DCL a whole lot as my DD gets older. I can get better food and the same service on other lines for half the price....and with more adventurous itineraries.

Ummm no you cant get better food.....

Yeah that's why Disney wins all the major awards, they are all the same!!!!

There are similarities between the cruise lines. Most of them offer a lot of entertainment (movie theater or dive-in, activities like games & trivia, comedy shows, musical revues, pools and bars...), mini-golf and/or sports deck, dining rooms, buffets, counters and grills, specialty dining, good staff, a host who makes towel animals and try to cover your needs, excursions...

A cruise line winning 2nd or 3rd place at the Cruise Critics Awards is still an excellent choice. Also, take a look at the editor's pick from Cruise Critics. They don't give all the awards to DCL.

Talking about price jump... Remy went from 85$/pp to 95$/pp.

My husband just told me that we are never going to do Remy dinner ever again because we can get signature dining here in Montreal (like Boulud) for less.

DCL food is not high quality stuff. I suppose if all that you have nearby is a Dunkin' Donuts or an Applebee's it would rock your world. However, having frequented establishments with Michelin Stars it's mediocre to our family.

Right because Remy and Palo are Applebees. And no I live near NYC.

You go to Michelin rated places and are complaining about prices, wow

NCL, Disney ALWAYS wins the food category in yearly competitions

So you've cruised one line and can make the statement that no other cruise line can top Disney? Palo and Remy - EXTRA FEE RESTAURANTS - may be very good but their main dining is not the best in the industry.

If you read the cruise critic award stuff, it says stuff like "Animator's Palate was a great experience for the kids." "Crush visiting your table makes dining so special!" "Rotating to the different dining rooms is so unique and fun."

Mostly absent is mention of the food.

Nobody is saying that DCL is a bad cruiseline.

But... Just because the demand is there doesn't mean the jump in price is justified or reasonable. DCL is a business and business are there to make money. We get it. But as customers we have the right to say "no".

And it is not fair to say that there are no other good (or just as good) cruise lines, especially for adults.

We have recently tried Carnival and while it was an old ship and Carnival is rocking a contemporary look (I have a preference for the classic look like DCL's lobby, Holland, Cunard...) we though it was nice.

When it comes to the food, most people don't eat at Remy (amazing) and Palo (it's very good but let's no go nuts... It's not awards worthy), therefore, we have to talk about included food. DH and I actually prefered the food in the dining rooms on the Victory. Our experience with DCL's has been hit or miss.

My DH prefers the entertainment on Carnival, I loved both.

We have no kids so kids club has no value for us. Cannot compare.

Our great experience with Carnival led us to think that there are excellent cruiselines outside of DCL and some of them only ask half the price for similar itineraries.

I have friends who have tried NCL and Princess and they have nothing but excellent reviews for them (and they are picky when it comes to food and entertainment). I believe them.

Actually, as Disney is not a non-profit charity, since the demand is there, they ARE justified in raising prices as they see fit.

Cruises - and vacations for that matter - are nice to have, but traveling for fun is NOT a necessity. It is a choice we each make - and we make decisions for how we choose to spend our dollars as we see fit. And as you say, consumers are free to say no and go elsewhere.

When/If enough people say no and go elsewhere that it financially affects Disney, they will adjust accordingly.

I was talking about the included food such as the MDR. No, Palo is not award worthy. I get way better souffle at our local french restaurant. Remy was wonderful, but shouldn't be lumped into the regular dining.

re. food. Not saying it's the best, but we find MDR is just fine on DCL, and no need for Palo (which we have done). On RCCL we now feel we need to eat at least 3 night in specialty, which we found about equal to DCL MDR, just IMHO. So, mentally, we add 3 nights specialty (about $70PP) to our RCCL cruise price.

WE ARE NOT TALKING AWARD WORTHY FOOD. Disney wins every major award on food for Cruise lines, you can believe that or not.

You're the one that brought up Palo and Remy. Not sure why you are so angry?

What awards are you talking about?

This is the quote from Cruise Critic- Editor's Choice:
Disney Cruise Line provides standout service, delicious food in specialty restaurants like Palo and Remy, and a quirky touch of magic in its main dining rooms. Whether you watch the scenery change from day to night in the Enchanted Garden or bring your doodles to life in Animator's Palate, you'll be impressed with more than just the cuisine.

This is the quote from Cruise Critic-Cruiser's Choice:
Disney Fantasy
"Overall, the dining experience, particularly at Animator’s Palate, is an enjoyable time for families to experience top-notch service and delicious food in a child friendly environment." - mghert

Doesn't really give me the impression that the food is impressive, in my opinion, it's more about the experience of dining.

The USA Today 10 Best Cruise Food:
#1 is the Carnival Breeze
#9 is the Disney Dream

My husband will no longer go to the MDR. He doesn't want to spend that much time for mediocre food.

I think people that rate DCL highly for food can't/don't/won't separate the playful activity in the dining room from the food.

Only time I had to send food back, was on a Disney cruise, not only once either. I've had very good entrees on DCL...but Carnival blows them away in the food category. (Regular dining, not upcharge, I haven't done upcharge in Disney or Carnival)

Its pretty surprising that a person who has 10 Carnival cruises likes them better.....
