Does anyone know how to calculate how much cooked meat a whole raw chicken will yield?

For example, if I buy a 3 lb chicken, how much cooked meat (no skin or bones) will I be able to get from it and use in a recipe?

Thank you!!

Thanks for the fast response!

So, a 3 lb chicken is about 1 lb bone/skin and 2 lbs raw meat, which would be maybe 1 1/2 lbs cooked meat?

The bigger the chicken, the more flesh you get as the carcass doesn't increase a huge amount in proportion - so a 5lb chicken will give you more flesh than a 3lb one but not much more bone etc. If you need a particular amount of cooked chicken for a recipe you're usually best to grill a couple of breasts - no waste;)
