Looking for first-hand reports from guests at WDW in September to see if the
Yeti at DAK's Expedition Everest is
MOVING in "A-Mode" or "modified A-Mode.
(This mode means that the Yeti's hand and arm actually move as it makes a "sweep" towards the train as it passes.)

Or- is the Yeti still standing motionless (and lit by a flickering strobe light?)

This concerns the full-size Yeti in the final cave just before the train exits to the unloading station.

Rode it last Tuesday and, though I didn't notice it specifically, I do not think the arm was moving. My husband doesn't remember it moving either.

No movement at all Labor Day week, just the strobe light.

That Yeti was dead (or maybe just frozen into the icy mountain) when I was there a week and a half ago. :)

Do you guys recall is the light was in front of or behind the Yeti? DH and I recall it being moved behind the Yeti in August (was in front in May & Feb) and that makes it seem a little more disco-ey? I figured the change might fool more people.

When we were there this past Aug it looked to me like they(Disney) had moved the Yeti into a postion, it was kinda hard to see him. SO maybe it's like the previous poster stated and that they had just moved the strobe light behind the Yeti. Either way, in my families opinion the Yeti was harder to see this trip.

What is so difficult about this? Why is it different from all of the other animatronics at WDW, which seem to work most of the time?

1- Did it ever work as designed?

2- And why not?

3- What is so difficult about this?

4- Why is it different from all of the other animatronics at WDW, which seem to work most of the time?

1- Yes.

2- It caused damage to it's mountings and the motion had to be shut down.

3- The yeti is so huge and heavy. Far beyond that of the other AudioAnimatronic figures at Disney.

4- Due to the very rapid and repeated motion of the arm (as the yeti makes a "swipe" at passing guest vehicles,) the constant forces cracked (or threatened to crack) the mounting connections of the yeti to the room in which it resides.

AFAIK, the yeti, itself is still capable of moving, so it's not the Animatronic system that is broken,
it is just the danger of destroying the yeti's mounting system.

To make repairs it is said that the entire ride would have to be closed for an extended period of time, and
that would cause one of the biggest draws to DAK to be out of commission.
