Yet another "renting points" question

First, thanks to all of you who are so kind in sharing your knowledge.

So we are trying to make our first ressie and of course the whole world wants to come with us (another story) but no one wants to committ (I am the one who should be committed for allowing this to get so out of hand) This week is my cut off for everyone-no word no ressie-- you are on your own. GRRRRRR.

So family dynamics aside, if we wind up with a bunch of folks I will need to bank and borrow. I am tempted to save some points for ourselves so that we can squeeze in another small trip next spring. I am thinking of looking into I guess it would be renting points from another member. SO my questions:

1. Is this allowed if I still have "borrowable" points?

2. If so, do they just get transfered to our account or does the renter have to make our ressie?

3. Anyone have experience with this type of nonsense as far as banking borrowing AND renting a few stray points from someone who may want to sell them?

I get the feeling it's probably a long shot to rent a few points but I figure it can't hurt to ask.

TIA!

My inclination would be to not worry about it unless you HAVE to rent points. As long as you have your own available, use them.

I agree with the above .

If you use all your points between baking and borrowing AND then want to take a small trip thats the time I would worry about wanting to rent someone's points but not before.

Good Luck and Have fun

I just wanted to add the following:

1. Yes you can still rent points from another DVC member even if you have "borrowable" points.

2. The other member can either transfer points to your account (if their points are not banked or borrowed) or they can make the ressie for you. I think most members prefer to have points transferred to them so they can make their own ressie and have control over it.

3. I'm sure you already know this but once you borrow points, you can't return them to their original use year. It's a good idea to be very clear with family members so you don't borrow points, then get stuck not being able to use them if they cancel on you. Good luck. I hope your trip turns out great.

Absolutely use your own points first. If you rent, your ability to modify or cancel is much more limited.

The only problem with borowed points is that if you cancel, they stay in your current use year and can't be banked. However, you could in turn rent them out if you couldn't use them.

Depending on how many poitns you are short, another option may be to just pay cash for a Friday and/or Saturday night. Even with the 25% member's discount, it will still probably cost you more than renting at $11 a point. But we felt that the price difference was well worth the lower hassle with cash nights vs. rent/transferrring.

Best of luck -- Suzanne

Thanks everyone for the advice and info. I have learned so much just reading all the posts. I am looking forward to getting more first hand experience and can't wait for the day I can submit my first trip report.

My foot stamping (of course done in a nice way :lmao: ) actually paid off yesterday. No one wants to committ and more people want to join us, so we are all making our own arrangements. Makes me happy! Now I only have to borrow or bank some of our own points and should still have enough left over for a small get away later on.

It's suppose to be fun planning everything, not stressful. So I am off to call MS and try to book our first ressie!

TTFN! :tigger:
