Yet another question about bags on rides...

Hey all! I know some rides require that we put bags and stuff into lockers before riding, with the exception of small fanny packs. Do they also allow a tiny, flat purse that is worn with a crossbody strap or a wallet that is secured to the body with a chain? What if the strap and/or chain was underneath clothing? Just curious what our options are...

Thank you!

You can't take bags with the crossbody straps, but I have gotten on by keeping the strap under a sweatshirt, etc.

This past Dec they saw the edge of my Vera Bradely mini hipster I had on under my jacket and asked to see it. Even though it was small, flat, on crossbody and under the jacket they made me go back and put it in a locker. This was the CM that stands right where single rider and regular line merges.

Just wondering (I carry a VB mini hipster) who has access to the lockers??? I'll have some valuables in my bag...

Aw, thanks for the warning! I guess it's better to be safe than sorry.

I've never actually used them, but the lockers are free and they are locked using your fingerprint. You are given a certain amount of time to return and retrieve your items before they start charging you. So, nobody has access to them but you, rest assured! ;)

NO crossbody bags, if u try to hide it and they see it...You have to lock it up.I had my VB mini hipster on under my jacket the one morning. They saw the strap and stopped me.

I have a very small fanny pack - more like a hipster, but it has a three prong latch. It is about 8" by 6", although it looks smaller, and not very wide. Will this make it on if worn as a fanny pack?

Also wondering what happens if they stop you from bringing it on the ride. Do you have to leave the ride and then stand it line all over again after storing your bag? I thought I had read they take it and store it, but do not see how that would work. I would be worried about someone else taking it.

Hope someone can answer this:goodvibes. It is the one thing I am really freaking out about for this trip (besides the crowds). We do have my DH, who is not much of a rider, but there are four packs he would need to stand around and carry, not much fun for him ;).

Thanks!
Carol

they will not take the bag for you and hold it.
they can't be responsible for other's belongings.

someone could easily say that something is missing out of their bag when it really isn't....

you would be directed to use the lockers if you had a bag.
i have no idea if they allow you to catch up to where you previously were in the line.

you can most times use the fanny pack that has the 3 prong set up.
i have and haven't had issues with it.

They will not store it for you and they make you get back in line way back at the locker area. It's easier to just not carry any bags in that line at all, so you don't have to worry about it. Since they sent me back out that one time with my VB mini hipster cross body bag, I just don't carry a bag to Universal at all anymore. I make a point of wearing cargo shorts over there. I've seen them send people back out of the line who just had a wristlet sticking out of their pockets. The CM said that if it didn't fit completely inside the pocket it had to go in a locker and the only bags allowed on were three pronged fanny packs.

They are really strict and I think a little ridiculous. A small, flat, crossbody Vera Bradley mini hipster worn under a zipped up jacket is just as secure, in fact is more secure than a fanny pack. With it being crossbody, no way is that bag going anywhere, nor is anything falling out of it, since the top is zipped, plus has a velcroed flap over the zipper part. Then the ride restraint would come down over it.

FWIW, they haven't had a problem with lanyards, so just put your absolute must-carries in one and lock up the rest.

The lockers are secure. And there are attendants. If, for some reason, your fingerprint doesn't work when you get back (those machines are twitchy), you get an attendant and they make sure that locker is yours.

We needed two lockers for MIB and my son wanted to do it. Alas, his finger is small and doesn't fill up the spot for the finger (don't have your little kid do it!), so although it worked to set the lock, it didn't work when we got back. So we had to get the attendant, tell her what was in the bag inside the locker, and she asked if my ID was in there. Alas, it was in my lanyard pouch, so that doesn't prove anything. But since my camera was in the bag, I could easily show her pictures of us, and that was good. But she did *have to* see something that proved the bag was ours once she opened the locker!

I think they just make a blanket statement so that the TMs don't need to make judgements for each person about the size of the bag. It is easier for them to police if they just say no bags other than a fanny pack.

When someone is pulled out of the Forbidden Journey line for having a bag they do not have to make the entire line again. They are sent through a door, then downstiars to the lockers through Filch's Emporium. They can walk straight back up the stairs, through the door and when the TM sees them will allow them to get right back in line right where they were pulled off :thumbsup2

Yes, that's what happened to us.
