Got back last night, was in WDW from 8/26-9/2. After all my worries we had a great trip, luckily had good CM encounters and didn't encounter cleanliness issues or attraction malfunctions (except Soarin kind of, see below).

First observation, where were all the guests? Was surprisingly slow. Followed easywdw recommendations and arrived for rope drop but still, yay for short waits though. Made great use of FP+, loved being able to schedule additional FP+ from the app. That was especially useful when park hopping, walked right onto something on arrival. Left MK one afternoon at 3:30pm got a TSM FP+ for 4:05p, got off TSM and made another FP+ for an hour later (that was the next time available). The third track makes a huge difference. The Star Wars characters and shows were a big hit, my son especially enjoyed trading with the Jawa and meeting Chewbacca. :goodvibes

We skipped Fantasmic this time around to get a good spot for the Star Wars fireworks which was a top hit of the week. :upsidedow

Perhaps it was the low crowds that made a difference but in previous trips I've had major issues accessing the MDE app in the parks and it worked fine this time around.

Security wasn't especially more onerous this past week, all the adults in our group had to go through the metal detector one time entering the International Gateway, my son stayed in the stroller parked right next to the machine. One other time my mother was asked to walk through. Bag check wasn't as bad as I expected.

In Epcot the Frozen ride was a big hit with my family. I loved Maelstrom and wasn't excited for the change (at all), but actually found it to be well done and enjoyable. Also spent a good amount of time playing the games when you get off Spaceship Earth, that was hugely popular with my 4yo and brother who came along.

Not sure what is the deal with the new Soarin, we rode twice in different theaters and found the movie to be oddly distorted in many scenes. It really took away from the experience. :confused3 It was the only issue out of the entire week that I scratched my head at. I like the idea in theory but wasn't impressed due to the distortions. I would have liked if they chose scenes from all the countries in the World Showcase.

We had great experiences with the photopass photographers this trip, found them out and about and got some wonderful family photos. I hadn't purchased the memory maker ahead of time since I am flooded with Disney pics from previous trips but broke down and ordered the one day version for a day we hopped and had a large number of great pictures in photopass. The $59 one day charge was worth it to me for my son's first Splash Mountain pic, plus the SDMT and Buzz pics and all the other pics for the day from the two parks. The one day price appeared in the app when I looked at the photopass pics, so it is still available!

Enjoyed all of our meals except Pecos Bills, didn't care for the menu changes or food we got. :crazy2: Garden Grill, Via Napoli, Cape May Cafe and Beaches and Cream were all top hits.

Finally made it to Typhoon Lagoon, we all liked it especially the lazy river and kid's play area. Holy moly, that wave pool is serious, I only stayed in it briefly but other braver souls in my family stayed in longer. 8-) We arrived about an hour after park opening and were able to find a couple chairs which we shared since at least 2 or 3 of us were usually off doing something at any given time.

If you have a free evening on a rest day, the Chip and Dale sing along and campfire at Fort Wilderness was a big hit. The singer there did a great job and dancing with Chip and Dale was a fun and new experience. I brought a bag of marshmallows but purchased the sticks there. It is kind of a trek there but for a one time thing was fun.

All in all we had a great trip and are starting our plans for next year (or maybe the year after).

Happy planning! pixiedust:

I was thinking anout chip and dales's BBQ. I have 16 yo. Were there kids of that age there?

There wasn't a huge crowd the night we went, it had rained very hard right before the start time so that may have kept folks away that night. There were a couple families with several tween/teenage kids and a couple families with younger kids, also a family that was all adults. We left shortly after the music and dancing as did the other family with young kids, but the other families looked like they were staying for the movie afterward.

You'll see people of all ages there.

FYI: It's not a BBQ, it's a campfire. You can buy marshmallows to roast, but there's no food.

Yes, I thought she was referring to the campfire but it is different than Mickey's BBQ.

I do think they sell food at the Chuck Wagon where I bought the sticks (it's in the back of the campfire area) but I would have to double check that.

What a great trip report!! We did Typhoon Lagoon this time and really enjoyed the lazy river & kids area too. My DD must have ridden the tube ride in the kiddie area a hundred times that morning. Glad you had a great trip!

Great report! Welcome home. :)

I know what you mean about the wave pool. I lost an earring in it when a wave took me down--and I was lucky that was all I lost. LOL!

Glad to hear you had a good time.

Yes, my son also loved that tube ride, went on it again and again!

The wave hit me one time and I was out lol, just hearing the ominous horn it was starting was really enough for me. :scared:

Thank you for your review.

How was Via Napoli? It has such a mix review. What did you order and did you like it?

And what did you trade with Jawa?

I was concerned my family may not care for the Via Napoli pizza but they all raved about it, we finished the entire thing. We shared one of the big pies, half the regular cheese, half with red peppers. I really wanted pepperoni but was overruled and didn't want it enough to order a separate individual pie for it. We also shared a couple salads, not the family style one they list with the pizza but the Insalato del Contadino (which was great btw). I also enjoyed a glass of white sangria there. I've been to Via Napoli a couple times before and always like it, I like a thin crust pizza though and even more so if it has a couple crusty or burnt spots. :)

I had bought two key chains that light up at a local store to trade with the Jawas (only $1) and of course left them in the resort room that day, so my son pulled out a pressed penny and they traded him that for a pin. He was thrilled! I was so happy because we saw them rejecting things from a couple people before us.

We are eating at trails end so I was thinking about the campfire. What time did it get started? Did you need cash for the stick or can they charge the magic band?

We were disappointed to hear the exact same thing from friends who recently got back. They said that much of the video was not of the actual locations but computer generated and unless you were sitting in the center the curvature of the screen distorted many of the images.
Yes, we request front row centre for no distortion at Soarin. :thumbsup2

We went to the Chip and Dale Campfire for old time's sake this August with my 12 & 15 year old boys and they both enjoyed it (although not the thrill it was last time at 5 & 8 back in 2009!). I would recommend it and the movie our night was good too and easier to see & hear than I think it was back in 2009!

I paid cash for the sticks (four of them was $2.50), I'm not sure if they take magic bands there but most places seem to.

The manager at Trail's End said it started at 7:30pm, the campfire was going when we arrived and the music and Chip and Dale started closer to 8pm that night (not sure if that is usual or was delayed a little due to the rain that night).

The fried chicken was VERY good there, you should enjoy it. I would just request a table in the main dining area, we were downstairs more in the side bar area which wasn't a big deal except I had to also carry plates for my 4yo and mother so it was a little bit of schlep. Next time I will request to sit upstairs in the main area. The food was pretty good and the service was great.

Next time I will definitely do that although I generally dislike asking for special requests when they handle so many people. I'm surprised they run the movie with 2/3 of the audience viewing it that way. Where the screens always curved, I didn't notice that issue with the original movie?
