Well, we've lost another ride for our trip next week - Grizzly River Run has just been added to the list of rides down next week (it's down Jan 20-27). This brings our total to 4 rides, fireworks, DL parades, Princess Fantasy Faire stuff, a few park hours, and who knows what else by the time we get there! Yes, I know, it's off-season etc, but it still stinks that they keep adding things to the closure list!

While my son will be really bummed by this, on the bright side I will stay much drier!

I know it blows that some attractions are not going to be available but try to focus on al the great attractions that will be up. No matter what you are all going to have a great time; just don't focus on the closures and divert that attention to some of the things you might not have done, you might find there are things to do at DLR that are really fun that you might have overlooked otherwise.

Back in 06 for my "cough" 30th b-day, my wife surprised me with a guys only golf trip and a couple days at DL. It was the first time I had been back to DL in 13 years so it was definitely long overdue and I was stoked.

I got there and discovered that HM was closed for the conversion back to normal from the holiday theming. I hadn’t ridden HM in 13 years and now that I was back, it was closed. :sad1:

Here's the thing, I don't really think about it when I look back on that trip. Space Mountain had recently re-opened and was outstanding. Indiana Jones was a brand new ride to me since it didn't exist at all the last time I had been there. Neither did all of DCA for that matter. But best of all, My first day at the park (Which I was alone for since my golf buddy wasn't due to arrive until the late evening) was the very last day that POTC was open before the Jack Sparrow plussing. That night during Fantasmic, POTC was completely empty, and I don't mean that as a euphemism, there was literally no one on it. So I go on there and rode POTC completely alone as one of the very last people to experience it in it's (nearly) original form. pirate:

Don't get me wrong, I like the Jack Sparrow additions to the ride and actually believe that is is an even better ride now, but the original concept of POTC was a big part of my childhood and having a very personal way to say goodbye to the old version is a great memory will last with me for the rest of my life.

When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. There are other experiences just waiting to happen. A couple closed rides will not take away from the overall experience. It will be a good trip regardless.

And by the way, when we went the following year for my Son's first trip, I got to ride HM finally. :) That extra year to wait just sweetened the experience for me even more.

Try to focus on the things that you ARE going to get to do. Get your son excited about the numerous other exciting and wonderful things he will get to experience.

There are so many great things to enjoy at DLR.

I DO understand, but it saddens me to read when people feel a few things will ruin their trip. When I went to WDW, the one thing I was most excited about at the MK was shutdown that week. I was bummed. We went by it while there on the off shot it would be open. It wasn't. We took a picture of the closed for refurb sign for the photo album and went on to enjoy the rest of the day.

Make a lit with your son of all the things he WILL get to enjoy. Maybe that will help.

We'll be there next week too. I think they added GRR a few weeks back. It's a fun ride but I typically only go on it if it's super hot outside.

The haunted mansion and the fireworks are the only things I'll miss. But I'm over it.

Just be warned....there will be refurbishment walls up all over the parks so it may not look too pretty.
