Yet another banking ?

When we bank our points are those points the first points used the following year? We have 15 points left this year and I was looking at banking them but this is new to me so I just want to make sure that's how it works. Also we know that we will be using 121 points next year so would it be best to bank the points we won't be using right away?

Once you have completed reservations for your current Use Year, I'd go ahead and bank any remaining points (that way you are less likely to let the banking deadlines slip past). If you later decide to take a trip before the end of the current Use Year, you can still borrow from the next year (you cannot "un"bank any points).

MS will usually use banked points first for any reservations , but it's always wise to ask if you have any banked to be sure.

Banking is often a confusing component of the DVC system. I'd always suggest banking any points you think you won't need as soon as possible - just to avoid losing them after banking deadlines have passed.

Thanks Doc. It's true, banking does seem to be the most confusing part of it all. I mean the financing was easier to understand. But then again I guess it's always easier to understand when it's actual dollars involved!

If you have banked and/or borrowed points and then make a reservation, DVC will almost always use those points first. I agree with Doc that I'd double check just to be sure. The other question that comes up centers around the situation where you made a reservation then later banked or had unused borrowed points. Not only will MS not automatically sub those banked/borrowed points in your reservation, it's actually "technically" a cancel and rebook situation if you ask them to do so. Not an issue if the same room night is available but could be a real issue if enough nights of your existing reservation are on a wait list.
