Yes, I'm On My Way - Surprise Trip 5 Years in the Making! - Non-Trip News 6/5/09

I'm glad to hear your DH is feeling better. It sounds like he had it pretty bad. :scared:

I'm so excited for you about MNSSHP!!! :cool1: We've been three times, and it's our favorite Disney "event." There's just something about it that's extra magical. Whatever you do, DON'T miss the parade. I'm not a parade person, but I REFUSE to miss the MNSSHP parade. :thumbsup2 As for costumes, you could dress up in something Hawaiian, and your DH could wear the Stitch hat and gloves, and you could go as Lilo and Stitch! :rotfl:

*Le Cellier (dinner): I had the filet mignon with mushroom risotto..It was SO yummy!

I'm with Tink. The mushroom risotto is soooooo amazing. You must try it, even if you just buy it as a side, which is what Mom did on our Nov trip. :goodvibes Other than Le Cellier and Crystal Palace, I haven't been to any of the others. I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on them. :)

Great update, girl! :wizard:

We LOVED MNSSHP last year. The parade and fireworks were awesome. The fireworks are my favorite fireworks show to date! The kids rode Splash Mountain and BMTR 10 times. You are going to LOVE it too.

Your ADRs sound great. We are doing Tusker house breakfast this time too. I wanted to do Tepen Edo, but with 5 picky kids it just didn't seem worth the money for us right now. Maybe when they are a bit older and more refined :rotfl:

Sorry - I don't have any ideas for costumes. Are you wanting to make something or buy off the rack?

First of all, I'm so glad DH is feeling better!!

Secondly, YAY for you for trying so many new places!

But, here they are:
*Crystal Palace (dinner) --only been here for bfast--but I know you have too!
*Teppan Edo (lunch or dinner) --YUM!!! this was a must-do for us again. the edamame is amazing (soy beans in the pod) and the food is great. the "show" is what makes it though. I don't like the ginger cake (but that's probably bc i don't like ginger...)
Chef Mickey's (breakfast)
*Tusker House Breakfast w/ Donald
*Le Cellier (dinner) --we're trying this one too!!
*O'Hana (breakfast) --we're trying this one for dinner and we're super pumped!
*Whispering Canyon (lunch or dinner)
Sci-Fi Drive-In (lunch)
*Akershus (for the girl's night together)/*ESPN (for the guy's night together)

It looks like you have some GREAT ADRs! :thumbsup2

As far as costumes go, what if you did Aladdin and Jasmine? I was at MNSSHP a few years ago, and I didn't see any of them...there were TONS of Capt. Jack and Minnies though. Or you could be Peter Pan and Wendy. You'd probably already have clothes for them. Or even Cards from Alice in Wonderland (you could just get white poster board and paint on it and wear red/black tights--sweats for DH. you could make those little hats from paper)

MNSSHP WILL BE GOING ON WHEN WE'RE THERE!! I'm so excited! I have always wanted to go during the time they have their Halloween decor out!

Woo-Hoo!!! :woohoo: :woohoo:

But, here they are:
*Crystal Palace (dinner)
*Teppan Edo (lunch or dinner)
Chef Mickey's (breakfast)
*Tusker House Breakfast w/ Donald
*Le Cellier (dinner)
*O'Hana (breakfast)
*Whispering Canyon (lunch or dinner)
Sci-Fi Drive-In (lunch)
*Akershus (for the girl's night together)/*ESPN (for the guy's night together)

We have done Sci-Fi for dinner. The food was fine, the service was OK, but the atmosphere is AWESOME!

We did ESPN for lunch and the food was very good.....LOTS of it...the portions are HUGE!

We did the Donald's Breakfast when it was in Dinoland...not sure if it's changed, but we loved it. The servers were a lot of fun! :goodvibes

Glad your DH is feeling much better!!!

I have only been to a few of the restaurants:

*Teppan Edo (lunch or dinner) - we went for dinner and had a great time. I think I just got the chicken dish, and my cousin and friend got a combo with shrimp. It was a lot of fun and we had great interaction with the chef!!

*Le Cellier (dinner) - we went for lunch and I LOVED the chedder soup :cloud9: and the bread that they gave you. I don't really remember what I had there, but I thought it was great!!

*Whispering Canyon (lunch or dinner) - I have been for both lunch and dinner, but a long time ago! I remember getting the bottomless milkshake the last time we were there. It was fantastic after a long day in the Magic Kingdom! We had a great server and just enjoyed ourselves with all of the entertainment and interaction. If you go with that frame of mind and no one that will expect a relaxing quiet dinner, I think you will like it.

*Le Cellier (dinner): I had the filet mignon with mushroom risotto..It was SO yummy!

As for costume ideas...you could go as Peter Pan and Wendy! Wendy would be easy...all you'd have to do is find a cute nightgown that is close to hers...and get a ribbon for your pony and do your hair like hers! DH could be Peter Pan...or Capt.Hook...or one of the lost boys!

I will definitely make sure I try the risotto!

I think all of you that suggested the Peter Pan theme are on to something; I'll have to tell more in my next update!

I don't normally take food pics but will post reviews in my TR... seems like I am going before you so I might be able to help you after all :)

I'll be sure to read your trippie and expect lots of reviews!

Glad to hear your DH is feeling better, I hope he gets back to his old self soon. Your ADR idea's look great, we have been or plan to eat at nearly all of those, can't wait to hear your reviews. And I'm glad you managed to be there for MNSSHP, it looks so good you guys will have a blast. I can't think of any costume idea's at the moment but will try and think. We were at Disneyland Paris for Halloween last year (Nick, my parents, little sister and I) and all dressed up, we didn't really go for a theme but had a great laugh doing it. The men looked great as they had proper costumes, Nick was Jack Sparrow and Dad Captain Hook, then Sophie and I were bad fairies and Mum was a witch, not all Disney but kind of. Anyway I hope you get some ideas soon, cant wait to see your costumes.

He's pretty normal now; he's eating like a pig again, so he's feeling better. :lmao:

Oh, DLP...I'm so jealous! I guess I need to get over my fear of flying thing before I can make it there, huh? Do you have pics? I'd love to see some!

Hi there! Thanks for commenting on my PTR. I was worried I was all alone over there!!

I'm catching up on your report and I think it's great what you are doing for your mom. I can't wait to read the rest of it!

Thanks for heading over here!! Welcome!

My DH and I went as Peter Pan and Tiger Lily one year- that was fun. How does your DH feel about wearing green tights?! :rotfl2: (Mine didnt wear the tights- I think he had green sweat pants or something?)

Like I told tinkgurl above, all of your suggested Peter Pan themes have definitely got me a'thinkin'! I'll update soon with our ideas!

Wow! It sounds like your mom is an amazing woman who really deserves this trip!!

I love the picture with Mickey giving a high-five after checking you out! I seriously laughed out loud!!

About your ADR's - I've done Akershus lunch (cold buffet was weird, entree & desert was great, and princess interaction was AWESOME!) and Whispering Canyon dinner (one word: bad).

Plans look great and I can't wait to read more!

Aw; thank you for heading over! I hope I was a good study break!

I've heard some bad things about Whispering Canyon and some great things, so we'll see! DH really, really wants to try it, and I don't want to break his lil BBQ lovin' heart! Hopefully it'll be good! If not, there's always the food court afterwards! Haha.

I'm glad to hear your DH is feeling better. It sounds like he had it pretty bad. :scared:

Oh man, I'm drooling. Did you do CP as breakfast or dinner?? We've never done dinner, so that's why we're giving that a shot! I've heard it's an awesome buffet. And boy, oh boy, does DH like buffets. He's so skinny, but he eats like a pig. I hate him. :lmao:

We LOVED MNSSHP last year. The parade and fireworks were awesome. The fireworks are my favorite fireworks show to date! The kids rode Splash Mountain and BMTR 10 times. You are going to LOVE it too.

I'm so excited for the parade and fireworks! I LOVE Halloween!!

I've heard such wonderful things about Tusker House and have been told to make ressies at 8am so you can be first in line for the safari at 9am. Apparently, the animals are all waking up and it's gorgeous!

DM has dropped hints on previous trips that she wanted to eat in Japan, so I figured I can only say yes this time! I'm excited about it. DH and I love sushi, so we'll probably get some of that, too (much to DM's dismay.)

First of all, I'm so glad DH is feeling better!!

Secondly, YAY for you for trying so many new places!

Lovin' the Peter Pan theme idea; DH and I have been so excited and brainstorming the past few days! I'll update soon!

Woo-Hoo!!! :woohoo: :woohoo:

Yeah, we LOVE Sci Fi; my mom loves going there for lunch - great burgers!

DM and I will be at Akershus while the guys are at ESPN, so I'll make DH give me a full review of his meal. Haha.

DH is really excited about Whispering Canyon; we love going to places where the staff does silly things! This was a top choice for him, so I hope it lives up to what he's heard on here!

Cheddar soup? Omg. I love cheese; I think I just added another must-try dish on to the list!

Hi Heather, I just read through your PTR, I really should be in bed but I just couldn't stop reading.

You and DH are cuties, Love the wedding pictures, you both wear those mouse ears so well.

It's wonderful what you are doing for your mom, she sounds like beautiful lady, you are both blessed to have eachother.

Gosh, there's so much I want to comment on but I can't remember it all.
The taxes!!!! I hate the IRS, we owe money, BLECH!! we went to jackson Hewitt last year bot of us had our own businesses then, we got back a nice amount because of course we had tons of deductions, well last summer we get a letter fom the IRS saying something about a new tax for business owners and they came back to us for $2,000, I'm like can they do this after it's all said and done? apparently the IRS writes their own rules, so we have been paying on it monthly since then, but we aren't expexting a return this year because they get theirs first.

Your plane trip. I aint gonna lie to ya, I was crying for you when I read that. I don't blame you for driving to WDW. I have never had an experience like that and knock on wood hope I never do.

Your pets. That is sad. We lost our beloved Chloe to Kidney failure last Easter, she went blinde first then wouldn't eat, and then one day laid down for a nap and never woke up. She was only 7. This past february I lost my chihuahua Kiki to congestive heart failure. Now all I have is her sister Falula, she's old but hanging in there. It's hard losing a pet

MNSSHP, has anybody suggested going as Sandy and Danny from Grease, your DH could totally pull ofF Danny, his costume would be so easy, jeans a white t-shirt with a raisin box rolled up in the sleeve. You could do the poodle skirt or just capris, bobbi socks and your hair in a pony tail. just an idea to toss around.

Anyway, I am on board with this PTR, can't wait for the big reveal.

Ty

Cheddar soup? Omg. I love cheese; I think I just added another must-try dish on to the list!

I love cheese too! I think there might be a tad of alcohol in it too, but it was really good! And dipping the pretzel bread in it...YUM!

Enjoy!

YAY...you guys are going to have so much fun at MNSSHP! My sister and I went in October and we loved being able to trick-or-treat at MK. The "Boo to You" parade is definitely one of my favorite parades at WDW. The Headless Horseman is amazing! Can't wait to hear what you guys decide to dress up as. My sister dressed up as a pirate wench and I was one of the ladies from the stretching room portraits. It's so fun being in costume at MK. You'll love it!

How goes the LSAT prep?

You would make an adorable Sandy. You could even pull off the 'bad' sandy from the end in all black!!

The headless horseman didn't show when we went. :sad1: And I staked out a good spot an hour before the parade just to see him

He's pretty normal now; he's eating like a pig again, so he's feeling better. :lmao:

Oh, DLP...I'm so jealous! I guess I need to get over my fear of flying thing before I can make it there, huh? Do you have pics? I'd love to see some!

Thats good to hear, it sucks being sick. There is some pictures from DLP in my 'Small World' trip report, right near the end (link in my signature). We have been there quite a lot, and whilst its no WDW it helps pass the time until we can get back there again.

In regards to WCC, we absolutely loved it there! It was probably one of my favorite meals at WDW. Not only was the food yummy (we had the skillet...we love BBQ!), but the atmosphere was fun. And my little guy thought the ketchup thing was hilarious. He still talks about it.

Hi Heather,

All caught up now, your ADRs look good.

Akershus - we've been twice and really enjoyed it.

Crystal Palace - I agree with Inkedupmomma on this one. We liked it but preferred dinner at 1900 PF - the step family were hysterical! Breakfast was good too - the Mad Hatter was really funny.

Whispering canyon - we loved it, really fun and the food was great too!

One other place you could try is Yak & Yeti - it was our best meal!

Hi Heather.. I followed you over from my PTR..

Im really enjoying reading yours alot.. I live in the DFW area as I mentioned on my PTR and me and DH are driving on our upcoming trip also.. We drove the first time he and I went to WDW and it wasnt so bad, but after that we started flying and I fell in love with the idea of getting there in 2 1/2 hours vs around 20 hours.. until last year when he and I went to WDW and afterwards he met up with his mom at the airport and he spent a few weeks with her and I flew home by myself.. I had a little bit of a scare... The plane was getting ready to back up from the tarmac (I guess thats what its called) and all the sudden we smelled fuel and everyone is looking around... I had a window seat by the wing and all I could see was smoke coming out of the engine.. Of course we were all freaking out.. then all the sudden there was a fire truck and fire fighters out there... the pilot came on the intercom and explained there was a false start and that was pretty common but that they were going to try it again.. so he did and it started up and off we went.. of course I couldnt sleep the whole way home and was freaking out the whole time.. I have been on a plane twice since then but still get scared a few days before and dont feel better til Im there.. DH knows that this little scare has since freaked me out about flying and agreed for us to drive.. I figure its all good since now I can get some of the souvenirs I want that are too big to take on a plane since we will have the car..

Sorry to hear about your doggies.. I have a few furbabies myself and I love them dearly..

I like your food choices.. theres a few on there that I havent been to so I cant comment on those, but we have been to Ohanas for breakfast and really loved it.. especially the toast... also I think you will like Crystals Palace for breakfast... its one of my favorites.. we did do Chef Mickeys on our family trip last year, although it wasnt for breakfast, but it was good.. We do have Whispering Canyon on our to do list on our upcoming trip.. this is a new one for us and cant wait...

We are excited too for MNSSHP this year.. we went last year and unfortunately I didnt research enough and didnt realize the first MNSSHP was the night we were leaving.. we did get to experience the decorations at MK but missed the party.. so I was so hoping we would get to go this year.. and we are!! woohoo.. dont know if I can get DH to dress up.. heres hoping..

*Crystal Palace (dinner)
*Teppan Edo (lunch or dinner)
Chef Mickey's (breakfast)
*Tusker House Breakfast w/ Donald
*Le Cellier (dinner)
*O'Hana (breakfast)
*Whispering Canyon (lunch or dinner)
Sci-Fi Drive-In (lunch)
*Akershus (for the girl's night together)/*ESPN (for the guy's night together)

Mmm I love dinner at Crystal Palace. My favourite thing there is the bread pudding for dessert. But they also have this chicken and pasta dish that is amazing. People don't really talk about it a lot, but it is definitely one of my favourite dinner buffets in WDW.

The filet at Teppan Edo is delicious. We loved it so much in December we are going back in May! For us it is a must-do now.:thumbsup2

I haven't eaten at Chef Mickey's, 'Ohana or WCC since 2003 so I don't really have any good opinions there...

I agree about the Mushroom Risotto at Le Cellier it is sooo good. I almost substituted it for the mashed potatoes last time we went because I wasn't sure if I would like it (not usually a fan of mushrooms). I was glad I didn't!

My favourite thing at the Sci Fi for lunch is simple... the burger and fries! Although my DM prefers the pastrami sandwich, I've never had it. She says it's good though! They have really yummy sundaes there too.

Your ADRs look great!!!

Well, DH is FINALLY better. Poor thing was so dehydrated for days once he finally stopped getting sick just thinking about food. He still feels really run down and weak, but he's much better than before! Thank you all for your kind words and well wishes!

We had another rough week, but oh well, it's over and I don't like dwelling on crummy days!

But, middle of the week, I logged on to the DIS (sorry I've been so MIA, but I promise I'm back) and noticed there was a calendar for MNSSHP already! I've been so worried that we'd miss it and we can't push back our trip dates because of my LSAT at the end of September. After debating if I wanted to click the link after the cruddy week we'd been having (I was afraid it'd be more bad news), I finally let WDW get the best of me, hoped for some pixie dust, and clicked.

MNSSHP WILL BE GOING ON WHEN WE'RE THERE!! I'm so excited! I have always wanted to go during the time they have their Halloween decor out!

So, I need help from all of you! DH and I want to do something Disney related for costumes. We don't want to spend a ton, and it doesn't have to be couple related - just some sort of theme. Suggestions, please! DH is trying his hardest to convince me to be Turk from Tarzan and he'll be the elephant. I shot that one day pretty fast; haha. But, we want something fun and that's not over done a lot.

We have our list of TS ADRs! No idea when most of them will be yet; it'll depend on park hours once those come out (which, will hopefully be before our ADR date!)

But, here they are:
*Crystal Palace (dinner)
*Teppan Edo (lunch or dinner)
Chef Mickey's (breakfast)
*Tusker House Breakfast w/ Donald
*Le Cellier (dinner)
*O'Hana (breakfast)
*Whispering Canyon (lunch or dinner)
Sci-Fi Drive-In (lunch)
*Akershus (for the girl's night together)/*ESPN (for the guy's night together)

Oh man; I'm already drooling. I put a * next to the ones we've never been to, so I'd love suggestions on must haves! We wanted to try as many new places that we could, so that pretty much fills up our WDW days. The only place that I wanted to try but don't have an extra credit for (or the time, really) is 1900 Park Fare, so that will definitely have to be next time! We'll be on the DDP, too! (FREE!!)

I'm going to take some pics of everything we've started to buy for our trip this week and get those posted soon, too!

So, let's hear the costume and menu suggestions, please! I can't wait to hear what everyone has to say!

Seems like we are trying a lot of the same places. :) The only place I have not been to is Teppen. I know I am in the minority but I liked CP for dinner. It wasn't bad...but maybe it was because we were so hungry.

Saying goodbye to pets is so hard; all of our childhood pets our older now, so it's been one hit after another the past year. I lost my 18 year old cat right before he lost his first dog, and then the recent one. I have two older dogs still living with DM and DF, too. They've had some problems lately, but they're hanging in there!

I hope my PTR was worth staying up for, too!! :goodvibes

I will remain from going off on here, but yeah, I disagree with how a lot of things are done at the IRS. Oh well; guess it's one of those things we have to deal with!

I love cheese too! I think there might be a tad of alcohol in it too, but it was really good! And dipping the pretzel bread in it...YUM!

Enjoy!

Oh man; we had those pretzel bread sticks at CRT; DH must have eaten 20 of them, no joke. I'll have to keep it a surprise that they have those at Le Cellier, too!

YAY...you guys are going to have so much fun at MNSSHP! My sister and I went in October and we loved being able to trick-or-treat at MK. How goes the LSAT prep?

Oh, it's going. I'm having a hard time trying to find the time right now to study, so I really need to crack down soon. How about you?? Are you still going to test in September, too? It'll be nice to know I have a buddy somewhere else suffering through it with me that day!

You would make an adorable Sandy. You could even pull off the 'bad' sandy from the end in all black!!

The headless horseman didn't show when we went. :sad1: And I staked out a good spot an hour before the parade just to see him

In regards to WCC, we absolutely loved it there! It was probably one of my favorite meals at WDW. Not only was the food yummy (we had the skillet...we love BBQ!), but the atmosphere was fun. And my little guy thought the ketchup thing was hilarious. He still talks about it.

We love BBQ; and, we love going to places like that. DH is really, really looking forward to it!

Thanks for the tips! Yeah, I suggested Yak & Yeti to DH, but that was his day to pick, and he decided on Tusker House. It'll be on our list for sure next time!

I'm really looking forward to driving this year! It will make our vacation seem even longer, too. Are guys driving straight through, or stopping over night somewhere?

You have to talk DH in to dressing up!!!

I love bread pudding! There is a steak house near us that we love but don't go to often because it's pricey. But, I ordered the bread pudding one time and apparently, they put liquor in it and it definitely didn't cook out. I'm an extreme light weight; so, I ate it, sat there for a few minutes, then got very giggly. DH looks at me and goes "uh, you're a bit tipsy..." He asked the waiter about it because the liquor wasn't listed in the description, and sure enough, I sure did get tipsy from dessert. Haha.

I'm excited to hear you like the dinner there, too! I'm looking forward to that one!

I'll probably do the chicken and shrimp combo in Japan! Woho shrimp!!

Oh yes; we have to do lunch at Sci-Fi just because of the burgers. I don't know why they aren't on the dinner menu, though! That's nuts to me!

Seems like we are trying a lot of the same places. :) The only place I have not been to is Teppen. I know I am in the minority but I liked CP for dinner. It wasn't bad...but maybe it was because we were so hungry.

What were your fav dinner items there?

Ok, so this post is full of fun, fun updates!

I have some news on our tax issues, but I want to make sure the agreement is settled before I share it all. Keep your fingers crossed for us though, because right now, it is great news!

DH and I have officially decided on a costume theme for MNSSHP. Drum roll, please....

PETER PAN!

After so many of you suggested it, it became a really obvious choice for us. DH is a huge Peter Pan fan; not just the Disney version, either. He has any book and movie remotely related to Peter Pan, and reads/watches that stuff all the time. He got so excited when we went on the ride at WDW, too!

At first, I wanted to find a Wendy dress for DM. But, after searching and pricing things out to have one made, I think making her Tiger Lily is going to be much easier. My mom will also be more comfortable in that costume than walking around in a nightgown, too.

So, after we decided to go with Tiger Lily for DM, we figured we should stick with a Neverland theme and not worry about Wendy, John, or Michael characters.

We're going to make DF a lost boy; DH is pretty set on making him the skunk, but I told him we have to just find animal ears and a tail when the Halloween stuff gets put out this year. (Which, will hopefully be towards the end of August/beginning of September so we'll have time to look around!) But, this is going to be an easy costume to put together.

DH is obviously going to be Peter; I was looking up costumes, and many of them just have baggy pants; he said no, he didn't like any of those. I asked him why and he said because Peter wears tights. My jaw hit the desk and I asked if he really wanted to wear tights. I didn't think he'd go that all out, but he is! We'll have to find him some green sweat shorts to wear over them, but I'm excited that he's this in to it!

And, last but hopefully not least, is me. I'm going to be Tink! I loved the suggestions you all made, so I'm sticking with it! But, I'm having a horrible time online finding a WDW appropriate Tink costume. Let's just say many of them are NOT PG rated; I'm going to price out having one made. My seamstress said to try and find her a pattern, but I haven't had much luck with that, either. If anyone wants to help, I'd me more than grateful searching online for costumes or patterns!

I'm also working on my Disney binder like crazy! Here is my major request:

If you are going in September while we are going to be there, PLEASE post your definitive dates, your resort, and your real name here for me!

I'm going to keep up with my own list and ask periodically in case new people join in! When the trip gets closer, I'll share my list on here with all of you to see who you should watch out for, and to make it easier if anyone wants to work on a meet!

Ok, I have to get ready for my night full of ABC shows. (Love those 3!) Hope you all have a great Friday, and I'll update again soon!

I am glad you guys are going with Peter Pan- I cant wait to see costumes!! The shows start in a few minutes so I am off:-) Have a great night.
