YES, 4Nana is back!!

Hi 4nana- I of all of us understand what a much anticipated cruise not coming true to what you anticipated can feel like. Im honestly hoping the rest of your cruise was what you were hoping for.
(Im still waiting for our cruise). Take care. Im sorry things didnt work out the way you had hoped. I understand the feeling.

Hi 4Nana,

I want to also add my thanks for posting. :) I am so sorry you had to deal with such a huge issue on your much anticipated reunion. Hoping the remainder went well, and also that Disney "does you right." Please let us know how things are going if you are allowed or inclined to share. :)

Sandie....you seem like such a nice, warm, wonderful person from all your posts of the pat months....I am so sorry you had to endure that "imprisonment". I sure hope the situation works out to your benefit.

We are traveling on the 1/4 western and my niece who is coming is diabetic (age 9) and I told my sister to make sure she files a medical form (which she did), just in case my niece does not feel well at some point during the cruise due to her condition.

Thanks again for posting and it is so nice to have you back on the DIS.

MJ

I am so sorry to hear about your terrible incident and I hope things get settled soon. God Bless you and your family Sandie.

I have a question for the rest of the dis. I had no intention on filing a Medical form, because my condition is not critical. I have IBS Irritiable Bowel Syndrome. Sounds gross, right. Well it effects more than 40% of the population. There is nothing you can take for it or cure it. You just live with it. Mine is diet controlled and stress flares it up. Different foods and enviroments also!! So I quess what I am asking is should I file a medical form. I was planning on just controlling it myself, much like 4nana probably did. But all of this really has me freaked out.
If I have a flare up, would the medical form cover me. Or should I dose myself up on lots of immodium while I am on the ship and drinks lots of prune juice when we get home:confused: I know there are alot of people concerned with this at the moment. Web masters could you shine some light on it. Should we fill medical forms out for all the little stuff too!!!

I cannot encourage you enough to please file the medical form, no matter how minor your problem may seem. I was told in Medical, that even if I had filed a form, gastic problems are in the 'grey area' as Disney is on a high alert. But please try to protect yourself! I saw children being confined w/ loose stools from perhaps teething, juices, etc. Also a lady was confined for having her gluten free diet flare up. One family was split up as part were suspected of having the virus and quarantined on
Deck 1.

Please, do what you can to CYA, everyone is watching and listening. Like we can't have loose stools from those tasty colorful drinks, all that deliciously seasoned food, all the wonderful fruit, or what about sea-sickness????

How would CM's and DCL officials find out if you have loose stools?

Thanx, I really needed a good laugh!!!

So sorry to hear what happened, Sandie. As others have said, I hope you were able to enjoy the rest of your reunion and thank you so much for posting at least some of your story.

I can understand DCL's need to be cautious, but seems like they were perhaps a bit overzealous in your case. Goodness knows they didn't want a repeat of what happened in Nov. though.

LOL Nick and hugs to you, Sandie. See? No need for the flame-retardant suit after all! :)

It is so sad that you could not enjoy the entire cruise with your whole family. I am sorry this happened to you. Good thoughts to you that everything will work out the way you want it to.

Glad to see that you made it home after what you went thru. I think everyone can understand that a cruiseline (not just DCL) wants to be cautious, but there is a line between caution and overzelousness. Your situation would be like the CDC saying you could not work in a kitchen if you had a cut on your finger. (that's what bandaids and gloves are for) They were just too overzelous in my opinion. Did they try to call your doctor to confirm an ailment or did they not care?

About this form...............is it only for DCL or do other cruise lines use it, too? As a person who left their gallbladder in Celebration, Florida, I can tell you any change in diet sets my condition off. The treatments' sideaffects are worse than the symptoms it is supposed to cure, so I do not take anything for it, just live with it. It is too bad that this form is not made known until something bad happens. I have been doing research for over 2 years about cruising and this is the first time I have ever heard about it.

It's called a Medical Clearance form and I would guess that all cruise lines have some form of it. Ask your Travel Agent or call the cruise line directly and they can help you with it.

Thank you so much, 4Nana, for dropping in. I'm so glad to know that you really are okay, and didn't suffer the Norwalk virus. I think we all felt the affect of your event, because many of us would give our right arm to be able to have a reunion aboard the Disney Magic with our entire family. I was just crushed to hear that your reunion was everything but Magical. You deserved better than that, and so did your family and I LOVE LOVE LOVE Disney and am hoping that they will do right by you and yours.

Hi Sandie-

Welcome back. I am so sorry that your trip turned out the way that it did. I really hope that you are able to find satisfaction in whatever recourse you take. I hope that your family will have another shot at a wonderful reunion!

Best Wishes!

Erin :D

You are too strongly 4Nana in my heart to now become 'Sandie.' Please give me a while on THAT one!

It is unfortunate to learn the rumors of Disney's overzealous reaction are indeed fact. Just as fear can turn even the friendliest 'Man' into an unthinking 'Rat,' so it goes, I guess, for the friendliest of mice too.

One can only hope the rule of reason would prevail aboard the Magic. I am sorry the medical staff saw fit not to accept a plausible answer to a personal health issue. Not only do you deserve better, but so do all cruise guests. To confine guests on suspicion of illness, when reasonable evidence shows otherwise and common sense confirms the evidence, is contrary to civilized behavior. In this instance DCL is at fault and I hope they are Mouse enough to rectify their error in human judgment.

All the best, 4Nana, to you and your (obviously) wonderful family.

Why sue think about the other people that were scared of the risk of getting the virus, and there are 2500 more of them than the one small problem you encountered.
Litigation is ridiculous, they were trying to protect the majority of the ship.

Because a phone call to her physician really could have cleared things up. Her mistake was not completing a medical form in advance, but DCL could have gotten to the bottom of it rather quickly. And my response is really not to slam Disney because I love them and will sail them again and again, but sometimes even good people make a mistake that they need to make good on.

I am afraid I must agree with you. I still feel terribly sorry for what 4nana was put through - because we all know her well from these boards and shared her enthusiasm about the reunion. But . . . to stand for a moment in DCL's shoes - Guests with medical conditions that may cause symptoms similar to NLV are NOT immune to it. In other words, although thankfully 4nana did not have the virus, there was just as much chance she could have had, as any other guest onboard. It does not seem to be too selective about whom it strikes.

In any case, we are all SO glad they did not continue to confine you to your room, 4nana. ;)

Okay, folks. Please... no more discussion about the merits of a lawsuit. Because...

She didn't say she was suing... simply that she was seeking legal advice. And...
Discussion of the merits of a lawsuit are likely to erupt into a firestorm, and we promised 4nana that we wouldn't flame her if she agreed to tell her story.
That being said, I'll withhold my opinion even though it's not critical.
