Sorry I have not responded before now. I have had a heavy heart, but feel I should share my experience with you.

I would like to thank Pete and all the Webmasters, Moderators, and Dis Board members for your thoughts, kind words, and PM’s. I really do appreciate your concern and support.

As most of you know, this was a family reunion trip planned for over 2 yrs. and a Christmas gift to our 7 grands. We do feel we were treated unjustly and our cruise was anything but Magical.

Concerning our 12/14/02 cruise:
Target and other Dis members accounts of our situation are correct. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=303063&perpage=15&pagenumber=3
The DCL Health Center Staff did confine me to our cabin for 72 hours. However, after much controversy, I was released after 48 hrs. because I obviously was not sick.

I suffer from and take prescription medication for stomach and intestional ailments which decided to flare up. I quickly learned anyone with gastro problems on Disney is suspected of having Norwalk type virus. This is the only information I can give at this time as I am in the process of seeking legal advise.

A word of advice: Go and have fun, just be very cautious. I also would suggest if you have any health issues, file a health form. I did not, but do not think in my particular situation it would have benefited. DCL and Vanter Ventures Medical is currently in a state of paranoia over the Norwalk type virus situation. Crew
members confirmed to me they are under orders to report anything out of the ordinary - such as: staying in room, not showing up for dinner, etc.

I do understand DCL should be cautious, but without over reacting. Confining people in their cabin on suspicion only would NOT make Walt happy’.

Thank you,
Sandie ~ 4Nana

Thank you for sharing your story, Sandie. I hope you were able to enjoy most of the cruise. :)

It's good to have you back on the DIS, Sandie! We are all SO sorry that your reunion cruise did not go as planned. Your situation has taught us all a lesson - that it is a NECESSITY to file an official health form with DCL if one has any pre-existing condition. DCL was in a very tough spot, since Norwalk symptoms are not unique in that they are so similar to other illnesses, and there is no way to test for the virus during the cruise. We will never know whether filing the form would have helped in your case, but we are glad they did not confine you for a full 72 hours!

Thank you for sharing your story,
Shari

We are so glad you are back, and so sorry this happened to you. Please hang in there with the Dis Boards - we really want to hear about your experience, maybe learn from it, and help in any way we can.

Did the rest of the 4Nana crew enjoy most of their trip? Would you ever consider going back on a Disney cruise again?

Hugs to you!

4Nana, I'm SO sorry to hear that the stories were true, and I am sorry that your dream vacation wasn't such a dream. I hope the whole situation has a fair outcome in the end. Good luck.

Lisa

4nana - I'm glad you took the time to post. I'm sorry your trip wasn't all you had planned and dreamed for it to be. I hope the time you were able to spend with your family after being released was worth the trip.

How do you file a health form? What types of conditions should you do this for? What would be the benefit of filing one? My DD has asthma, should I file for her? Sorry about all the questions, but I plan on learning from your experience.

Thank you for posting Sandie.... ( I am still wanting to call you 4Nana!! ) Such a story does indeed bear verification.

I am so sorry about what happened. You seem like such a dear lady, and I know how you soooo looked forward to the cruise with your grandchildren. I do hope that the remainder of your cruise was Magical!!

4Nana: What a terrible thing to have to go through. We all hope you got to enjoy most of your trip. (Please let us know how you enjoyed the cruise with your family after you finally got to see more than the inside of your cabin)
I also have a gastro-intestinal disease that I am on disability because of. I know how stress can make it worse so I can't imagine the amount of zen thinking you required to make you calm down enough to ever get the flare under control. Good for you! You may be my hero!!
As I tend to explain often, we are not in a Category 3 because of the space or ammenities, we had to save up to afford the second bathroom. ;) I'm sure you understand. After the "Free 4Nana" thread appeared I immediately started making plans about the proper way to prepare for this.
Coming forward and telling us what really happened will be very helpful. Your ugly experience may help lots of others. We all thank you so very much for sharing.

Thank you 4nana for posting. I hope others are able to benefit from your situation. I also hope that you are able to work things out with DCL, but understand until you have consulted with your lawyer, the details of your confinement need to be withheld. {{{Hugs}}}} for all you went through.

Welcome back! I just posted to the "looking for you" thread right before I found this post. Im glad you decided to come on here and share your experience. Thanks!
Good luck in getting some recourse. You really do deserve it.

Welcome back 4Nana - sorry to hear about all you went through. Hope you were able to make some special memories with the family on the days you weren't confinded.

Thank you for taking the time to post this. i think it is something we can all learn from.

All the best.

Thanks for taking the time to post.Very sorry this had to happen to you and your family.:(

As a lurker I tend to read and tuck away knowledge for our family reunion cruise planned for June 28, 2003. Of course I'm worried about a million things that could go wrong but I think what happened to you isn't something that I would have ever guessed would happen. I really hope that you were able to enjoy your cruise at least a little bit. I hope you know that a whole lot of dis-board well-wishes were sent your way.

Good luck!

4nana,

So glad you have returned to the boards!

As you can see, we're all sorry for what you had to go through on this 2 years in the making family reunion.

I understand due to your possible legal situation you cannot dwell on the details of your confinement, etc. But, are there any details which you can share regarding your trip? We are all very curious as to whether any fun was had by members of your group (although of course it was diminished greatly by your "imprisonment) Were you able to enjoy yourself once you were "released"? Please share as much as you are able.....and of course, once you are free to discuss it, we'd all like to hear the nitty, gritty details of the "imprisonment"!

Anyway, welcome back and please continue to post here.

4nana - I'm so glad to see that you're back and sad to see that all the stories were true. I hope you can get some sort of recourse from DCL, if anybody deserves it you do!!!

Anyone in the family that has a chronic health problem should file a medical form through the cruise line. If you are booked through DCL directly, they can send you the form. If you are booked through a travel agency, you can have them get you the form. You can fax it into DCL or mail it.

Vicki

Hi Sandie!

Like I told you in my PM -- I feel like I know you 'personally' from all the posts on these boards concerning your reunion. I fully understand your reluctance to post publicly the details of your confinement by DCL but I think it is very nice of you to share what you could with the group here that were anxiously awaiting your posting!

I too am looking forward to hearing how your grandkids enjoyed the trip. :D

I wish you luck in coming to an agreement with DCL that you will be happy with. And once again -- I feel so VERY sorry for the disappointment you endured at the beginning of your trip. Feel free to PM or email me anytime you need to 'vent'.

{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}
Jody

So sorry to hear it was true :(
I hope that once you were "freed" your trip improved! Best of luck with your lawyer and that you get the satisfaction you seek, how unfortunate for you. I hope that while in confinement you were at least treated well-did you have a veranda at least? Did they send you food from the regular menus or could you only choose from the room service (very limited) menu?
So sorry to hear it was true, but glad you are back!
