I had posted here a few weeks ago about waitlisting HHI for August 8-15. Well, it never came through and we knew we wanted to go "somewhere" so we booked SSR instead. This will be our first trip as members. Any advice on SSR? I notice a lot of questions about room requests. How do I place a room request? Can you help me determine what's the best location for us? We have 3 girls (13,12,6). Our plan is to only do MK this trip and maybe TL. The rest will be spent swimming, pool hopping, activities at SSR, DTD etc. I am thinking based on the map that Springs may be good for us but I'd love to hear your thoughts!!

Just wanted to say WELCOME HOME!!!

We'll be joining you at SSR Aug 10-15 (DS10 & I). No tips for this resort though, cuz this will be the first time at SSR for us too.

Yes, it sounds like the Springs will be a good location for you. The only bad thing is that from the Springs, the waits for a bus to the park may be long since this is the last bus stop and sometimes the bus is full by the time it gets to the Springs. But since it sounds like you will be doing just as many other things, the Springs is close to the main pool, community hall, restaurants and the front desk. Plus, it is actually the first bus stop for the DTD/TL bus. If you want to take the boat instead, it is a short walk to the dock through the restaurant.

We recently stayed in the grandstand section; it had nice pool/snack bar and was not a long walk to the main dining area

Make sure you help Donald Duck fill his bucket of water while you're there.:rotfl:

Dennis-

We will be checking out of the Grandstand section of SSR tomorrow morning after a 9 day stay. I can highly recommend this area of SSR for a couple of reasons. The buses stop here first. If you just miss a bus, you can walk over to The Springs bus stop and catch the bus you just missed (unless, of course, it fills up). The main pool is nearby (as are the restaurants, boat docks, and front desk), but you are far enough off the beaten path that there is little automobile or other traffic going past the buildings. This was our first visit to SSR and I am truly impressed with the resort.

We will be there August 10 -15th and are also planning on TL, resort activities, pool hooping, DTD and maybe 1-2 days at a park. See you there. I'll be the woman looking frazzled with 4 kids (DD12, DD9, DS8, and DS2). DH isn't coming on this trip.

Thank you so much for the tips! I hope to one day be able to come to these boards and actually ANSWER questions, instead of asking so many! :thumbsup2 Now, how do I go about requesting the room?? Do I call MS or the resort directly? My dd will also need some medical equipment, including a sharps container for needles. Do I request this the same way??

Princess_Tink and Wendy, will definitely look for you both! How cool if we could meet? Wendy, we will probably see you at Community Hall, for sure! My girls would love to have some friends and your older dd's would be the right ages!

I'll be at SSR in October for a "Mommy only" trip and originally I thought I'd like to stay at the Springs. Normally DH and I like Congress Park, but I thought I might like a change of scenery. ;) Well, after hearing about the likeliness of crowed buses at the Springs stop, maybe I should consider going back to Congress Park???

I suggest the Grandstand too! We stayed there last year and it wasn't a long walk to the main area. If I remember correctly, the buses stop here first and drop off first too! The pool is quiet and relaxing.

If you like DTD ask for Congress Park with a DTD view. It's about a 10 minute walk over. It's really nice looking out over the water and seeing all the shops and restaurants. It is .5 mile from the main buildling which can be a little far. There is also a pool back there if you don't mind not using the main pool (no bar but quieter).

I usually stay in Congress Park. I wanted something closer to the main pool and restaurants. But I'm now thinking about the Grandstand instead of the Springs.

You can take a boat behind the Turf Club Restaurant. But I don't think they run that ofetn; maybe every half hour or so.

Thank you. I have been looking forward to riding that boat, so nice to know there is one. We are most likely staying at SSR this Oct and I plan on taking lots of pics. :)

Have a great trip, OP. It sounds like a nice enjoyable vacation. No crazy schedules. Sounds like a plan to me!

Personally I've never taken the boat. But I think I'd like to give it a try when I'm there in October.

Just wanted to add - I called today and requested 1)Springs or 2)Grandstand. Thank you all so much for your tips! 12 days and counting.........

I'm jealous....;) I have to wait 79 more days!!!

DH and I will be at SSR from the 9th to 16th, with DD10, DS5, DD4 and DS2. We were supposed to have an extra cousin 11 along to give DD some company, but it didn't work out, so if any of you that have 10, 11, 12 y.o.s want to meet up, PM me and maybe we can meet at the Community Hall or something. We're planning a day at each park and 1 or 2 waterpark days. Also, my husband had a hip replacement in March due to an old injury. What area should we request to limit the walking for him while at the resort? (Pool, restaurants, bus stops, etc). I am sure he is going to be sore and tired from the theme park walking. He may have to get a cane for the trip. He has done well without so far. Thanks, Mandy
