I have an early Sept. trip scheduled to Yellowstone and reservations for the old faithful inn. We are in the west wing in a premium room. Can anyone tell me anything about these rooms? I have heard that we might not want to stay there as it is very old and shabby. Anyone ever stay there or know anything about them? Thanks!

the rooms are horribale, they got drafts running thru them, and we once saw a big rat running acroos the bathroom. The water in the shower is cold all the time, and there are roaches in the bed. Actually I never been there just wanted to freak you out.

JasonLyons- do you realize she has only posted a few times? Quit being naughty!

I wish I could help, but I have never been there, either.

My DH and I were just talking about this...we stayed there in 92 though so things may have changed...when we were there there was no TV (the kids suffered LOL) and the only complaint I had was that the walls were thin so you could hear everyone stomping up and down the halls....it is the ambiance that is wonderful!...The fireplace in the main lobby....the incredible scenery...You'll have a great trip!

PS...Sept was a great time to go cause everyone is back at school...so it isn't very crowded and the weather was cool to!..it was great!

Hey Jason Lyons, I live about 60 mins. south of you, so be nice to a fellow buckeye!

We haven't been there but stayed at some of the older hotels in Glacier. They are very old so just the water pipes make noise, it did take getting used too. It was neat though that it is much the same now as when they were built. Any hotel that old isn't going to be plush. As long as you know that and stay for the atmosphere it will be wonderful.

I don't know if they have the option at Yellowstone but the place we liked the best in Glacier were cabins. They were older but only had a few adjoining walls so it was much quieter. They also were right on the lake. We decided after our last trip that while we were glad we stayed at the hotels because they were so unique we would probably opt for a cabin if we return.

We stayed in those rooms two years ago. They are not what you would expect for the price......but you aren't really paying for the room. You are paying for the history, ambiance, and have a world famous geyser 100 yards away !
The rooms are small and dark, but clean. There are no electronics.....but boy are there stars !

In the Inn, there are lots of cozy nooks and people bring table games and cards to play, also bring a telescope if you have one...or even good binoculars. Of course good hiking boots etc.

Do not miss mammoth hot springs....it is the inspiration for BTMRR.

We were there last September. While we were in the west wing of the Old Faithful Inn, I don't believe it was a deluxe room. Hopefully your room will be better than ours was. Since the Inn was full we couldn't change rooms.

We had a tub only - no shower. The tub was assorted shades of gray - no hint it was ever white. I couldn't bring myself to sit in it, so I took a sponge bath the first morning. I did find out where the the bathrooms (with showers) were that the guests in the 'historic' rooms use, as they don't have private facilities. It was WELL worth the hike to use those showers.

The Inn is beautiful and we will visit again, but next time we'll stay in the new Snow Lodge. We LOVED the Jackson Lake Lodge where we went after Old Faithful.

I wish I had something better to say, Good luck!

If you want to stay in the park itself, you might try Grants Village. The rooms there are more modern. Still no TV though.
