My mum and I travelled to the YC from Australia. During the stay, mum got sick. I woke up and she was barely breathing. I called an ambulance and they took her from the room. A manager showed up as we were leaving and asked for her name and date of birth. I was a little annoyed by this but understood they have policies.

Mum was put in an induced coma and was not expected to survive. During they next few days, I returned to the YC to sleep, shower and do laundry. On my check out day, I asked for a late check out and was declined. At no point did any staff or management check on me, mums status or if there was anything they could do to assist me. I was alone in a foreign country and very upset.

I don't know what I as expecting them to do, but I was disappointed they didn't ask if they could do anything.

Thoughts?

We were in the USA another 6 weeks until mum was cleared to fly and seven months later and mum has just been released from hospital and given the all clear. She is a fighter that one:)

I'm glad your mom is ok! That had to be beyond scary for you!

I will say I think they dropped the ball. I had something similar happen during a stay at Coronado Springs Resort, and the CMs there were all very helpful. My sister went to the hospital via ambulance, and they paid for taxi rides for the rest of us to go to the hospital. She only had to stay one night, but after that the manager did call to make sure we were all ok and see if we needed anything. It is not like they did a ton for us, but showing compassion and seeing if we needed anything did make a difference.

I am so sorry to hear about your experience, but I am really glad your mom is ok. What a terrifying ordeal! I agree with maxiesmom, they definitely dropped the ball on that for sure. The manager had to have known the ambulance was called to your room, and even if they couldn't do a whole lot for you, they could have at least checked back with you. :(

I'm so sorry this happened to you but am glad your mom is ok. I agree with others that the YC manager dropped the ball and should have at the very least followed up with you to see how she was doing and to check and see if you needed anything.

A couple of years back at the BC, my oldest DD got extremely sick and we found ourselves at Celebration Hospital. While she was only in the hospital for the day, she was so sick and confined to our room at the resort the following 3 days and I have to say that the CM's there went way above and beyond for us. It's amazing how a little compassion can go a looong way!

Wow, first let me say I am very glad to hear that your Mum is doing well now. Second I want to say that at least in my opinion she was taken to one of the best Hospitals around with being taken to Celebration. Several years back I had to be taken there while on vacation at Disney and ended up there for 7 days. The care i received at that hospital was far and away top notch in my opinion. As to the YC as others have said they really dropped the ball on this one. We were at the ASM resort and according to my wife they were very accommodating for her during this time period as was the airline with all the changes to flights etc.

Sorry to hear that they were no where near as helpful to you but once again let me say I am glad your mum is ok.

Sounds like a horrible experience for you and your mum. Late check-out is the least they could have done. Not sure who told you "no" to late check-out (phone, in-person, front desk, or manager), can't say how I would have responded, but I'm sure my wife would have thrown a 5-star nutty with crying and cursing.
