We are staying at the YC end of August and have a water view room reserved. Reading YC thread...it seems we should request lagoon view..high floor? But I've been reading that recently people are not getting their requests? I know we could t least try to give a request but is there any thought tha the hotels prefer not to deal w requests and we should hold off on requesting specifics?

I can't imagine you not getting some sort of lagoon view. I think YC has stopped classifying views of the quiet pool at water view, which is smart. I think all quiet pool room views are classified as "Garden view."
There are some rooms that predominantly look at SAB, but SAB sits on the lagoon, so you usually see a good piece of the lagoon. If you really don't want to be looking at SAB, you could request "Unobstructed view of lagoon please," then when you check in, politely ask if your request for an unobstructed view of the lagoon was met. If it has, great! If not, you could ask what the possibility of that is. I've found them to be mostly accommodating if they possibly can be.

Over the years I have had the chance to personally speak to 3 different room assigners. All 3 have said that they love being able to grant guests requests. In fact the one I spoke to who worked at CBR said that they keep a tally of how many requests they can meet on any given day when assigning rooms. Once they break a record they celebrate.

I feel that the majority people who didn't get their request either had too many or requested a specific room making it nearly impossible. But again, these are only requests. I say request away!

This is SO great to hear! It makes me happy! I usually say that the best requests are simple, yet specific. When I've booked water views, my request has always been, "Unobstructed view of lake or lagoon please." At GF, I requested "View of inner courtyard pool, dormer room please" I think the key word is "doable." Give the room assigners something they can work with rather than limit them to about 3 rooms you want to be in!

This IS great news!!! Is ot best to do this in advance or in person?

All rooms are assigned 2-3 days prior to arrival. So it's best to get your requests in before then. You can call and add your room requests any time from the day you book up until 4-5 days out.
