Day 6
This is our last full day at WDW and we're spending it in Animal Kingdom. A few notes: I tip everyday to mousekeeping and for turndown. At YC we were only there for one full day and we got animal towels and things always seemed to magically happen when we were away. At the Polynesian we never got any animal towels and turndown always came everyday around 4:30 or 5:00 when we were usually showering for dinner. They also seemed very agitated if you asked them to come back and one day actually knocked on the door and just handed me a stack of towels. WHY do they come for turndown at 4:30 in the afternoon? Regardless, I tipped everyday. I also keep our room picked up and empty cans and things put in the trash.
We ate breakfast in the lounge this morning and picked up the bus for Animal Kingdom. I found out on this ride that Evan and Kate had actually taken this bus before because they spent part of the day Tuesday at Blizzard Beach. When did they have time to do that? Oh well, they said they enjoyed it. We got to Animal Kingdom and went to Dinosaur to get fastpasses for the teens. When we got there it was only a 20 minute wait so they decided to go ahead and ride and forget about the fastpasses. Andrew and I sat in the shade and listened to the story about Dino-Sue and talked to another nice family from England (did they all visit the same week?) about whether Dinosaur was a roller coaster or not. Several of them weren't going to ride because they thought it was like Space Mountain. I explained to them what it was and they said thanks and decided to ride. After Dinosaur, another favorite of Kate's, we went to pick up fastpasses for the Safari ride. We got the fastpasses and went straight to It's Tough To Be a Bug. My niece had told me her son who is five had been frightened by this show but not Andrew. He thought it was funny. Then we went to Rainforest for lunch. EVERYONE loved Rainforest Cafe. We had been many times before but this was Kate's first visit. It's such a nice cool break in the middle of a hot day and we enjoyed the food too. Seems like everyone that day was ordering a Volcano for dessert and they kept yelling "VOLCANO". After lunch we went right on the Safari with our fastpasses and Andrew wanted to take pictures of all the animals with my camera. I was afraid he was going to drop it out of the truck and I soon figured out that if I let him hold it for a second and turned the power button off and on quickly he thought he was taking pictures. Hey, it worked. His favorites are the elephants and he always gets excited when he sees them. It was really hot and everyone was tired so we decided to head back. We took time to see some interesting animals as we were leaving. By the way, a lot of people don't realize that you can use your fastpass anytime after the beginning of the hour that's on the slip. It doesn't have to be within that hour. Later is OK too. We made it back to the hotel and opened the window. Guess what? Another wedding. Same place. Same time. The kids went swimming and then we dressed for 'Ohanas. This was truly one of the best values of the trip. The service was good. The food was good and we were seated directly beside the window. This dinner is a lot of fun and I'd recommend it to anyone. I was wishing my DH was still with us. He would have loved the shrimp. I had the pineapple and caramel sauce for dessert but Kate got the coconut ice cream and Evan and Andrew each got a sand pail snow cone. 16, yeah right. Amy had given me two $25 WDW gift certificates and I realized I hadn't used them yet. I asked if I could use them and the waiter said he'd check. He came back and told me he had adjusted my bill but he looked a little worried. Not to worry, I tipped on the original amount of the bill. Another evening of Wishes on the patio and the teens were off to MK for Spectromagic and Wishes. Kate said MK was her favorite park. This is the first trip in my life that I did not see the light parade at night. They'll be other trips, but Andrew needed his rest. I'm glad Evan and Kate got to see it. A kiss goodnight from the MK and we leave in the morning.
