YC/BC tell me how they differ???

Have stayed Poly (1x) and BWI (2x), now kids want to stay at YC/BC for SAB. That is ok with DH and I, we are willing to try a new place but have concerns about BC side of resort. I know they share the pool but when we have been in the resort we have only been on the BC side (Cape May and Sandcastle). It definitely seems over run with little kids. I know it sounds funny to be worried about a lot of kids when you are at WDW and have kids of your own  but not feeling over run by kids was one of the features we liked about BWI. Will we be better off in YC side? Will our kids (ages 9 and 12) feel comfortable there? Do they actually share the same lobby or was the lobby we were in (by Cape May) just the BC side?

Also, we are not big breakfast eaters, usually just grab bagels and juice from the BWBakery on our way to the parks... is there a place in YC or BC where you can do that with out sitting down for a breakfast?

Thanks.:D

They don't really differ at all, aside from the theming (think MA beach them vs. boats, boats and more boats). The rooms are the same, the buildings are basically the same, the balconies on the Beach Club side are SRO (standing room only) vs. the real "sit down" balconies on the Yacht club side. Both give you access to SAB, both have their own quiet pools. If anything, I'd guess that since SAB is closer to the BC lobby and Cape May, maybe you noticed more kids running around because you were closer to them? I can assure you our son was all over the place  at the YC. ;)

We really liked the themeing on the YC, and we loved that straight outside the lobby was the dock for the shuttle boat to Epcot World Showcase and BW, etc. We really didn't think that SAB and Cape May were far, it was just that our room was all the way on the other side of the YC, which made it seem like a long way.

Speaking of the Boardwalk, that's the only place I can think of to grab an on-the-go breakfast on your way to the parks. Maybe someone else can think of something, but I can't.

I was hoping to hear they had some offering at a lounge or in the lobby like they do at the Bellview Lounge at BWI, just coffee, juice, muffins and bagels but that would do us!

Grumpy37, did you have a standard view room? Do all rooms have a balcony?

BC has Art the Greeter.

Frankly we were not impressed with the BC, although the pool was fab. To do it again, I would stay at the YC just to use the pool. Bathrooms were tiny, CM's were not that impressive. I liked the Dolphin much better.

Yes BC and YC have that.

Hi!

I travel to WDW with my family (parents, siblings, nephews) and we've fallen in love with both BC/YC. In fact, half of us stay at BC and half at YC.

They are separate hotels with separate lobbies and theming, but share a pool and are connected. You can walk indoors from one to the other.

Really, the only difference is the theming - and IMHO, the amount of kids. Yacht Club seems to have less. That could be my imagination, but I've heard others say it, and I think it's true. YC is more understated elegance - hardwood, brass - rather than the wicker and chintz of the BC. I LOVE the Yacht Club, my sister the Beach Club...it's all about taste. :) We ALL agree that we LOVE staying there. I'm staying BC next trip cause we're trying concierge and it's inconvenient for me to not be able to access their floor.

The point is this: there are (or seem to be) less kids at Yacht Club, but it is definitely NOT kid unfriendly. It's still casual beach, there ARE kids, and they WILL NOT be uncomfortable. It's just a little more - I don't know - mellow. Which I like - it's like a refuge. Plus, I've always really loved my full-sized balcony or patio...but that's just me. :)

You'll have so much fun here! The Boardwalk, SAB, walking into Epcot, or even to MGM. It's a great area.

Have fun!

Both the YC and the BC have lobby bars that offer coffee, juice, tea, bagels, muffins, fruit in the a.m.

Sometimes we walk over to the Boardwalk Bakery for an extra-special treat in the morning. It's great then, before the crowds and the birds chirping, etc.

Can you tell I'm a fan of these resorts???

The YC has a little area that sells coffee and bagels and muffins in the morning. Get there early, they ran out of muffins a few times on us!

I felt comfortable with my kids at the YC...the BC seemed to have more b/c I think more people head over there for the character breakfast at Cape May and the nightly buffet, not to mention Beaches & Cream for Ice cream.

Thanks for the replies, I'm thinking YC might be the way for us to go... now if I just didn't have to wait!

There is grab and go in the lounge in the lobby of the BC, not sure about the YC. They have bagels, cold cereals, muffins, fruit, coffee, tea, juice, etc.

All but 2-3 rooms have balconies or patios, although not all rooms at the BC have a full balcony, some are standing room only sized.

On the second and fifth floors they all have full balconies.

The rooms at the YC and BC are identical, except the decor is different. But as far as the size and layout, exactly the same.

No you can't. You can walk as far as Yachtsmans Steakhouse in the YC before you have to walk outside and come back in just past B&C at the Beach Club, near the lounge. The walkway is covered, but not inside.

YC has Captain Bob; good guy who always makes a special effort with the kids.

We have stayed at YC many times, but do spend time at BC on each trip (meals, just wandering through, shopping at the store, etc.). While both are kid friendly, the BC lobby always does seem louder and more hectic than the YC lobby. I attribute this to Cape May Cafe, which is very popular, being right off the lobby. YC has the Yacht Club Galley off its lobby, but that restaurant does not draw them in like Cape May does.

The YC "side" of the pool is where the very shallow, sandy bottom part is. This area is very popular with the small kids and their parents.

One other thing to note, when there is a conference going on at the YC, the lobby can be VERY full of VERY loud business people at various time sof the day and evening.
