Announcement from Passporter -

The Disney Cruise Line has joined several other major lines by announcing updated smoking regulations for its ships. Starting Saturday, April 19 on the Wonder, and Sunday, April 20 on the Magic, the new policy extends the no-smoking policy to every indoor area, including the clubs in the adult entertainment districts on Deck 3 forward (Diversions, Cadillac Lounge, Beat Street, etc.). Smoking is still allowed on guests' private verandahs. The outdoor smoking areas have been moved from port to starboard. Those are the deck 4 promenade, and outdoor areas on decks 9 and 10. The comfy smoking area immediately outside the entrance to the Cove Cafe on Deck 9 forward has been moved to the opposite side of the deck, as it was on the port side. As always, smoking is not allowed anywhere near the Mickey Pool.

i always hated that I didn't feel comfortable in the adult areas because I'm not a smoker.

I know this causes some problems for smokers, but at least there is still a place to go.

OUr next trip will be even better....

Thanks Disney!!

Sorry for the smokers, but at least my wife and I will be able to enjoy the adult clubs.

But I wish smoking was still on the port side. A highlight for me will be looking over the rail as the mooring lines are tossed off and we leave the dock. Hopefully the wind will allow me to find a place where I am not immediately downwind of a smoker.

This is great news. I can now go to Sessions. I hope this is true.

I'm not a smoker. I've never paid close attention to the smoking policies. On our first cruise, the guest next door to us smoked cigars on his veranda. I didn't like it when the odor wafted our way but if he was allowed to do it, who am I to complain. So, is that allowed or not?

Sadly, "Smoking is still allowed on guests' private verandahs." That would drive me crazy if I was trying to enjoy my verandah with heavy cigar smoke around.

Hooray! I have avoided Cove Cafe because of the strong smoke smell! The seating just outside of CC is nice...except it has been a smoking area. Unfortunately, the smoke drifting from verandahs will probably be worse now.

I really wish they would not allow it in on the Verandas. I would rather it in public areas since you can avoid those.

I hope this is true...there is one odd thing in the statement:

"Announcement from Passporter -

Wouldn't it start Saturday on the Magic and Sunday on the Wonder?

But if it really is true, I'm gonna be enjoying a lot more coffee at Cove come next month! :thumbsup2

You bring up a very good point. One thing I just thought of, wouldn't this mean more if it came from DCL?

i usually play pro and con on this subject but i must say i have never understood why they would have a smoking section at the doors of cove cafe. other side of the ship has a covered area to so let it be there then everyone can enjoy cove cafe.
having said that, looking at the posts before mine you can see that you can not make everyone happy. with some non smokers you would have to make it a non smoking cruise to make them happy. then you would annoy the smokers who may want the entire ship to be a smoking area. lets all just enjoy our sections and all get along.:grouphug:

Yay if this is true, at least for my friends who couldn't previously go into any of the smoking areas.

I really wish that Disney would make the entire ship smoke free, but if not (and I understand that that would be a hardship for some people and lose profits for Disney) at least make only one side of the ship or just the back part of the ship 'smoking verandas'. Surely not more than half the adults on the ship smoke at this point? According to the NIH, less than 25% of U.S. adults are active smokers. Surely it would also make sense, especially on such a child-heavy ship, to have smoke-free veranda areas.

Keep in mind: The new smoking regulations have not been posted on the DCL site yet.

That is what I was trying to say from a post I made eariler. I want to see it from DCL before I do my happy dance. right now I am just happy.

Unfortunately, the smoke drifting from verandahs will probably be worse now.

Maybe not. I figure the clubs are most crowded in the evenings. I'm not a smoker, but I can't imagine a smoker wanting to trek all the way back to their staterooms to smoke on the verandah if they're enjoying a show or dancing - I would imagine they'd hop up to Deck 4 so they can get right back. Now if it is bedtime or early morning - I could see just them popping out to the verandah instead of getting dressed and out on deck. Again, I'm not a smoker so I'm just speculating. I'm happy to say I've encountered nothing but considerate smokers on board. :)

Maybe the new policy (if confirmed) will inspire some to try to quit smoking. It can't be easy. :flower3:
