Hello, my family goes to WDW for a week at Christmas to celebrate my moms birthday. Weve never stayed at a Deluxe before, usually just too much money, for what time we spend at the resort. So I called today to see what would be available with the newest AP discounts for December, and they had OKW available for only $18 more than our stay at POFQ! So of course I booked! :woohoo:

This upgrade will be a complete surprise for my parents, and Im still not sure how i'm gonna surprise them (any ideas?)

Anyway, having never stayed at (but have eaten/played at) a deluxe resort or a DVC resort, tell me what I can expect from OKW. And any tips or suggestions you have for my 14 year old brother who is currently 'too cool' for Disney (resort wise), would help too!

Thanks!

Did you bump to a studio? Most of the DVC studio's aren't that roomy, but since you booked at OKW, the room will be much larger. Haven't stayed at OKW, but know they have the same boat ride over to DTD like POFQ. That sounds like a good deal, but not quite sure why you would want to move from FQ. It is a LOVELY resort and not a lot of walking. OKW is LARGE and most people have cars when there. Will you have a car? If not, be sure to request to be close to the pool or main building. I am not sure what kind of food options they have. Not sure if they have a food court or just sit down restraunts. I hear Olivia's is nice and the newer pool is real nice.

Have fun!

Yes, its a studio. We love FQ too, but being florida residents and having stayed in every value and moderate numerous times, I know my parents are itching to do something different. Plus, not wanting to commando the parks so much anymore, it would be nice to have a more 'relaxing' hotel. We will be driving, and the main draw is the kitchenette in the room, microwave/toaster means we can spend less time taking the long walk to the counter service and just eat in the room!

First of all I would go check out the DVC forums. You will get a lot of great information there since that's what we know :teeth:

I own at OKW and love it there. Even with a car, depending on how much your brother likes to walk, I might request a room closer to the hospitality house. That way he can easily walk to the pool, store and other places.

Over all OKW is absolutely beautiful and very relaxed. The rooms at OKW are nice and large with an enormous bathroom. Each has their own patio or balcony (big enough for a real table). I just find everything there relaxing and tranquil.

You can rent boats at the marina and there is a golf course that runs through the whole resort. Just a quick boat ride to DtD as well.

Then OKW sounds perfect for you "locals"! Since you aren't planning a parkAThon, OKW sounds great. I hear the rooms are lovely and LARGE! Enjoy your time and I agree to hop on over to the DVC forumns. Most DVCers are happy to help with questions about their "home".
