Yavn...Buddy, come on.

I appreciate the hurt you feel by the treatment of bitter players in the game.

But saying I have "the right to be a victim" because they shut the quest down on me when I could have finished sounds pretty unfair itself.

I am not playing the victim, nor asking for gifts from my friends who finished, nor begrudging them any of their great prizes. But I WAS hurt, perhaps more than you.

Don't paint with too broad a brush there.

You too, like everybody else in this thread, make a very good point. I think it is time we all agree that we ALL are victims this time. Those of us who got through the quest are the victims of the people who did not get through and now label us all "mean" and "cheaters". The players that could not finish because they closed the quest early are the victims of VMK punishing the innocent, when the real cheaters have already cheated and gotten what they do not deserve.
Every time someone comes up to me and calls me "one of the mean people" or a "cheater" I do not say anything back, I hold my head up as high as I can and put my ears on a little straighter, knowing that I am not a cheater or mean. I did not get it on my own, I had great friends working with me and made some new friends helping others get through it as well. The team work I saw this last weekend made me proud to be a Disney fan...the aftermath of this weekend made me realize that, no matter how perfect Disney is with the small details, it is no longer just The Man and The Mouse. It is a corporation made up of humans, and no matter how hard they try, sadly enough, not everybody can "live happily ever after..."

Something in Yavn's newsletter kind of stood out to me...
Rest assured, we learned quite a few things from this Quest that will greatly affect future events.
Like maybe they learned that quests like this make people hate Yavn and VMK Staff, and maybe that they should just sell the prizes or give them out in an easier quest?

I got to thinking. You know how you got that sign over your head when you trade in vmk? Well why not have a penalty box point system also. If your caught spamming over your head is Trade Offense-1 in flashing letters. Means you were caught doing an unfair trade. Or Values Offense-1 means you broke one of the values in some way. I know it would never happen but it would sort of be like a public stoning. After so many offenses you get a 10 yr ban. Sure would give ppl a heads up, to keep an eagle eye out for you in trades or whatever.
lol

Can I have 1 of those signs to put over the girl in the POTC lobby who just a few minutes ago called me a scammer because I have silver ears? Who was attacking other ppl in the lobby just because they had ears?

She was telling me that I was 'one of the rich ppl who scammed them and vmk' and 'that the greed of ppl like me was disgusting to her'. She was wearing a stitch hat and sparrow pants, btw.

Plus, I think the pay-to-play would "nicen" up VMK a lot more...think about it, if you had the chance of being banned for being mean, cheating, etc. would you (as a kid) really go up to someone you don't know and say "You're ugly" or all the other mean and down right rude things I have had kids come up to me and say or seen them saying to others?? Plus, how are they going to explain it to their parents that they need another subscription cause they just got banned for being mean or scamming another player?? As a parent, would you give Bold or Forest another subscription if they got themselves banned? I think not.

I do believe it would 'nicen' up VMK because users would have to have more responsibility in their accounts and can't simply go around and make fun of or cause problems that could lead to a ban and put their subscribed account in danger. I don't think this pay-to-play should be as drastic as Club Penguin where unsubscribed users can't purchase any items, but give some more items availiable to subscribed vmk users.

Agreed! with The subscription business model is a business model that was pioneered by magazines and newspapers, but is now used by many businesses and websites. ...with this said add in automatic upgrades for your software, personalized web support, training, and access to exclusive resources all in one cost-effective package ...
take away your ugly and whats it leave you. a magical kingdom?

I made myself physically sick worrying about others and not taking responsibility for my eating.
I felt like I was in fasting. Except for a bowl of ice cream (that did nothing for me), I went almost 24 hours without eating anything. But I got people their silver ears :thumbsup2

Another step that you'll hate me for? I would like to see a system, where you can subscribe to VMK for a small monthly fee and keep the free vmk as well. Those who pay get access to a few more items, more quests, etc.

- hides -

I really would like to see this as well. Even a dollar a month (or $10 a year) would be fine for me -- and bring in loads of cash for VMK. However, when there are families involved (and I don't mean mules), they should be able to
get a sort of "multiple subscription discount"? VMK, are you reading this?

MONKEY AND I SHOULD GET FREE SUBSCRIPTIONS.

Indoor voice, Sugar, indoor voice.

Honestly $10/year would ease up a ton on the servers, get rid of the majority of mules, keep ppl accountable or at least not letting those banned reset their IP and go on a different character. Would it be hard as a family to pay/person? Yes, though less than a Wii game if we all had just one character. I certainly play vmk much more than any Wii that's been in our house. Why? The socialization, the friends, interaction, what have you. I don't even think too much of it as a miniature WDW, though that does come to mind every now and then. It certainly doesn't replace me getting out of the WI cold to sunny FL or CA!

Lets face it, even $5/year would eliminate many problems. Most scammers are not adults, or if they are then they are likely not the type to be able to afford multiple accounts. I realize that is a huge generalization, but it's relative to general crime rates and the population involved. Forgive me if it's politically incorrect. Like was said, junior's not going to approach mommy for another $5 bc he was naughty enough to get kicked off his first character.

I wouldn't even mind keeping my kids on a "free" version that worked a bit like toontown with limited sayings (whether typed or drop down as they have) and no trading allowed. They could buy what they can afford, play all the games, enter any room. Host events could be designated pay only or open to all and competition events could be limited to pay only just out of fairness due to limited number of entries available and to cut out mules entering.

Well I'm just rambling ideas, don't really care either way (so pls don't bash me:angel: ), but I can see the potential.

can I just say there are already pay for play options to us from Disney.

I dont know how this is leading to people actually asking VMK to charge us @_@

Go play toon town, pirates or club penguin and leave us peeps alone gosh :rotfl:

this is true. i have made tons of mule way long ago, but then i stopped. and i only do it around christmas or halloween time cause i love those items and i want those items. i know i seem greedy, but its true. last christmas i didnt make mules. but if people are making mules and you know it, u just need to realize, they have NO telent in getting their own items. They are cheaters. And u need to realize that u can get stuff with out cheating, meaning u have talent and they dont.. :)

:hippie: Sorry Aengus, I'm not into toons, nor penguins if they're not real or stuffed (never tried the game actually), and have no current desire to have virtual physical fights or pay for pirates. Maybe I should give it a try next time I'm bored with vmk. :rolleyes1

I don't have those desires either car. But I also have no desire to part with my real money to play a virtual game which can up and close tonight.

I also am not a gamer. The newest gaming system in my house is an N64. And it hasn't even been hooked up for years. I play this game because I love the Disney parks and other things Disney. I also play because it's Free.

I am sorry Yavn, but I am appalled that the Quest was pulled early. You and the other VMK big shots should be ashamed of yourselves. Not for just pulling the Quest early, but for making it nearly impossible to pass. When I passed the 70hr mark and still had not passed the pirates portion, I knew I was doomed. Thankfully, there were some FANTASTIC Disers that came to my rescue early Monday morning to help me out :goodvibes

But I am truly saddened for all the others that we were not able to help make it through :sad1: I have given away my purple pirate box to someone who helped me, gave away a 1* Inferno, and am trying to give away other things, just as my way of saying :thanks: However, I *REFUSE* to wear my silver ears for fear of it looking like I was somehow better than everyone else.

I say we call for a boycott of VMK for 1 day - Nobody sign on at all and let's show VMK that we will not stand for their antics. They have promised things to change for over a year and they have done nothing to change things, to make it better. Stand with me and DO NOT sign on to VMK April 9th !!!!

Any subscription model is a bad idea for this game. It would cut down dramatically on the number of casual players and skew the game's demographic much older. A few dollars a month wouldn't drive away many of the current adult players, but it would get rid of a lot of the younger players. And while it would all but elliminate muling amoung the kids (many of whom are going to have enough trouble getting their parents to pay for one subscription) any dollar amount that's low enough to be kid-accessible - I'm seeing ten or so dollars a year as a common figure - is going to be low enough for older players to pay several times over if they'd like to. Bottom line, a subscription model is going to make the game less kid friendly.

For vmk to be effective as a marketing tool, it's the casual players they most need to keep interested, and in many ways having to pay money to do the best activities and get the best items is just as unattractive as having to pay to play the game, period. Even current players who are mostly interested in socializing are going to be turned off by that, and it's going to make the game much less attractive to a lot of would-be newbies, too.

As for 'nicening' the game: though as I said, subscriptions would cut down on the most casual players, some of whom are the ones who cause the kinds of friction being described, that's a bit like throwing out the baby with the bathwater. You're not talking about eliminating the 'your ugly' crowd, but the entire section of the game's demographic which happens to include them. But, of course, unless everyone has to subscribe to play, free accounts are still going to be an option for some players, so if they are banned for being mean on a free account (and I do feel the need to add here that saying 'your ugly' is not a bannable or even a warnable offence) there's no financial loss there.

Would it be THAT difficult for someone from VMK to officially step forward and say:

"To the 99% of you that play our game without using programs to cheat, we apologize that we pulled the plug on the most exciting thing to hit VMK in months due to panic when we saw what a VERY select few were doing. We made the wrong choice, hurt the masses to punish the select few, and we are sorry. We goofed. "
