I will be having a yard sale with a friend in the fall. I have been going through closets, etc and have some very nice never used or very gently used items. I just want to purge and have less stuff in the house. I have no idea how to price things, never did a yard sale before. I have Clarks ladies shoes, a few never worn and some very gently worn, Disney clothes from WDW and Disney Store. Vera Bradley handbags (3), some baby items, household items. Better ladies clothing, some from qvc. I have no idea on how to price things. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I will make a suggestion try to look what you have on E-bay , if they have the exact thing price it acordingly , if you are really trying to get rid of stuff and someone is intrested just take a couple of dollars off .
good luck i need to do one too :goodvibes

I would generally agree with PP. For stuff that is more obscure, not name brand things you could search for, I'd say price at 50% of what you paid for it. If it's something you truly only used once or twice and is still in pristine condition, I'd say you could go as high as 70% of what you paid for it. Remember it's a yard sale and people don't typically come looking for specific items, they're out for a deal vs ebay where they're looking for a certain thing and you can demand a big higher price. Expect hagglers and don't refuse a reasonable offer at the cost of ending up with that item left over. And good luck!:wizard:

Yard sale pricing is usually 25% or less of original price - even in fantastic condition. You may want to look at consignment or craigslist or ebay to sell some of your better items if you want more than that.

For anything name brand go ebay, consignment, or even craigslist. Yardsales will get you $1 for a $500 purse.

THIS!!! Every year our town does a yard sale and I put out a ton of girls clothing. I stopped putting out Hanna Andersson clothing with the other stuff. I would keep it in a separate labeled bin and put in the yard sale Craigslist ad that I had Hanna for sale. Even if I would explain to someone that the stuff is higher priced, they would go through the bin and get annoyed I am not selling it as cheap as the Target and Childrens Place stuff.

I finally found a person who does consignment weekend sales (they rent out an vacant Borders/electronics store) and there they had a separate section for name brand stuff. Majority of the name brand summer stuff sold and now I am anxiously waiting for the fall sale. I have also had good luck with Craigslist for very specific name brand stuff. Trust me, people will want to pay a buck for your Vera Bradley stuff and you can do much better online. Still do the yard sale, they are a lot of fun and it feels great to get rid of clutter and make some quick money, but just realize that people are going to be looking to get stuff CHEAP.

Echoing PP... expect to make very little for most stuff. Yard sales are about getting rid of stuff, and about people finding things for cheap.

In terms of "% of what you paid", I think even 25% is probably extremely optimistic... 10% or less is probably more realistic. Remember that not only is what you're selling used and probably not in original condition, but that it's only "worth" what someone is willing to pay.

For those few items that truly are unique, valuable, or genuinely qualify as vintage (that term is used too often on eBay and the like as a euphemism for "old junk").. then eBay, craigslist, or something similar is definitely a good suggestion.

The general guideline I use is 25% of what I paid for it. So, if I paid 19.99 new, I'd price it at 5.00 used. Even pristine condition, even big brands.

Special items you think will warrant more, go ahead and craigslist or ebay them.

Hm, sales around here obviously run a bit differently than the ones others are talking about. Granted I haven't gone to tons and tons of yard sales but I really find that 50% of purchase price to be accurate in my area. From what I've heard while at these sales and what I personally think while I'm at them, if someone finds say...a mircowave that the seller originally paid $100 (let's just make it a nice round number) and says they only used it a few times, I'd be very leery of it being priced at anything under $40. I'd figure they were lying about how good the condition really is.
