My friend is having a sale tomorrow and I have a LOT of large yard type of toys......toddler bikes, Little Tykes climbing gym, seperate slide, shopping cart, lawn mower, a Cozy Coupe as well as a Barbie Dream House with working elevator. I have no cluse how to price these items that she welcomed me to sell at her sale. Any ideas? All will be clean by the time of the sale!

First make sure that everything is really clean, I don't mean just brushed off either. It all depends on how badly you want the items gone and what you would do with them if they didn't sell. I would start the bikes off at $5 same for the gym. The slide would be $3 and the shopping cart, lawn mower, and cozy coupe for $2. The barbie dream house in great condition, I would ask for $20 if it had everything and no tears on the wallpaper or stains.
Are you staying there? If not, then tell your friend the minimum you'll let everything go for. If you want nothing back, then instruct her to mark all items $1 and the house for $5 at the last hour of the sale.
A lot of people near me end up bringing left over yard sale stuff to the dump with prices stil on them. Last summer i picked up 3 little tikes outdoor playthings there. They were still tagged at $7 each and were filthy. Brought them home and washed them. Kids love them! They would have sold for cheaper if they were clean, maybe even got the $7?!

Good Luck!!

I would charge about $10 for the gym and barbie dream house and about $5 for the cozy coupe, bikes, slide, etc. People are looking for bargains and likely won't pay much for anything. JMHO :confused3

I had the large climber with slide (Fisher Price) which I sold for $75.00 (people were lined up outside at 7:00 am for this!) I sold my Little Tikes sandbox for $15.00 (large) $10.00 for the small ladybug one (used as a pool so it was like new). I got $15.00 for my wagon and $10.00 for my cozy coupe. My neighbor sold her Outdoor Barbie house for $50.00 and said at least 20 people came and asked for it. Start high, you can always mark them down. I sold my daughter's outgrown little girl bikes for $15 and $20.00. My old 10 speed wouldn't sell at all.

I'm with Ceecee - start high. I always do really well with kids stuff like that at kids sales. I had a cozy coupe convertible that sold for about $20. The play center you should be able to make some good money on (not sure how big it is). You can always negotiate after - but people know how much this stuff sells for new and even if you mark them higher they are still getting a good deal.

As an aside...I have a theory that Little Tykes only manufactured 100 cozy coupes--they just keep getting resold at garage sales around the country!! :earboy2:

I do daycare and let me tell you the cozy coupe cars are a hot item. You hould start at $20 and no less. If the doll house is coming with furniture definately $20, if no furniture, you might want to let it go for $10. A great resource is e.bay to see what things go for, I find that I find things are yard sales cheaper than I would on e.bay and I wonder why people don't e.bay more suff. Little tykes items are not cheap nor cheaply made, so don't "give" them away.

LOL! I have 2 of them and both I got used!!! They are indestructable. When my kids got too big to fit inside they would lay on the top and race down hills on them like some convuluted bobsled race gone bad! But, despite that they are still in fine condition. I love Little Tykes. Never fades or breaks.

Little Tykes and some other toy manufacturers offer lifetime guarantees so if you find something with a part missing (example the bell on the LT boat sandbox) you can get it at a bargain and then contact the company for a replacement part. BTW, I currently have one of those sandboxes for sale for $20. Includes the sand too. Grandkids are growing up. (boo hoo)

I agree with those who say to mark things a bit higher. I'm also not sure what part of the country you're in but around here things go pretty quickly. I've sold most of the same things you're offering and here's what I got for them:
Cozy Coupe $15.00
Little Tikes Climbing Gym (the cube shaped one) $45.00
Little Tikes Slide $7.00
Little Tikes Shopping Cart $5.00
Toddler Bikes w/training wheels $10-12
Lawn Mower $3.00

I don't know what to say about the Barbie item, I only have a boy so I have no clue about that! :)

GL!

The Little Tykes things you mentioned seem to be going for $20+ on ebay so I would definatly not think about selling them for cheap (like one poster said for only 2 bux????!!!!?!?) garage sale unless you absolutely just want them out of your house. Some one would probably swipe them all up at once to make a pretty penny on ebay (I know I would) Check out the completed auctions & you will be surprised how much you could get for them if you listed them on ebay!

LOL - I was just about to respond that I would buy them for $2 and sell them on ebay for $20-30. Seriously, I sold several little tykes things on ebay a few months ago - great prices. These are hot items if they are in good condition. Check out the completed auctions to see what they are going for. No way would I accept $2 for good condition little tykes stuff!

I think I got $10 for the cozy coupe.

Anybody know what a StepII pool and slide would go for?

As a basic rule of thumb, most yard sale stuff goes for about 10% its original price. If the item is literally new or genuinely like-new, add more. If it's old, tattered, or faded, reduce the amount.

I wouldn't price it too high. Here's how most yard salers think: If they're willing to pay $10 for an item you've priced at $12, they'll ask you to bargain. On the other hand, if you've priced it at $25, they'll figure you're out of your mind and they'll just leave.

Once my SIL and I saw a nice Little Tykes climbing gym (the small toddler version that sold for about $90 at that point) priced at $50. The seller pushed us to buy it, insisting that "Little Tykes stuff really holds its value." On our way home -- way late in the afternoon -- we saw that it was still in her yard. Now it's a private joke between us; we'll say, "Oh, go ahead and buy _____ -- you know it holds its value."

I have read that 25% is a good place to start but that would not work for all things. Some things sell better in some areas than others. It is sooo right that if something is marked way above people will just walk off though. If it is close I might ask if they might take a bit less but if it is way above I figure they would not go so very far down. Have found if I buy several things I can get a better deal.

Another tip, have lots of small bills. It does not look too good to ask for a reduced price and pay with a big bill.

Also, it does not go over well to show up in a new Lincoln and plead poverty. LOL

Seriously?? We have a cozy coupe, but I think it's a deluxe model (it's the teal green and gold one with a pink trunk, not the red one) and my ds broke the door right off of it. :sad2: Can I really call Little Tykes and get a door for free??

marcyinPA, that is what I believe to be true. I know that I have done such with a couple of other companies. My Little Tikes stuff has a toll free number embossed on them. Would not hurt to call. What do you have to lose? I have heard that you can request Monopoly pieces and such also. I once bought a $1500 pool table for only $300 cause I found it at the close out store AND it had a piece missing. When it was delivered I called Sears and they very nicely sent me the missing piece. One of my better moments.

I guess my area of living is priced different than most of you. I got a Power wheels jeep for $20 last summer at a yard. It was in great condition and battery works and charged great. I would never pay more than $20 for a kids toy at a yard sale. I only paid $35 for my Cozy Coupe brand new. I mean my DD just got a 10-speed mountain bike for free that my neighbor picked up at the dump. It's tires had no wear and there was not a scratch on it.

I'm having a yard sale as I type. (My DDs are outside watching the stuff.) I sold 2 Liyyle Tykes toys for $% each. They were baby toys that we only used inside. I was happy to get that. It looks like I'ver made about $155 today. More money to spend in Disney. :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:
