We are having a three day Yard Sale May 6-8 and I have been stressing out about pricing. Since I only have a few days until the yard sale, I have come up with a plan and would like to know what you think.

Pricing:

Children's Clothes: $1.00 each or less

Children's Shoes: $1.00 or less

Toys: Nothing over $5.00 ( and a lot of stuff is new)

Videos: $2.00 each (used) $5.00- 7.00 each (new)

Books: .25 each (paperback) .50- 1.00 (hardback)

Furniture: $5.00 or less (end tables, coffee table; good condition)

Bowling Balls and Skates: $5 each

Jogging Stroller: $25

High Chair: $20 (doesn't have the cushion on it, but it is in excellent condition)

Leg Shaper Plus (Exercise Machine) $50

I know that some of these prices may seem high, but I want to give a little negotiating room on them. Also, since it is a three day sale, I can lower the prices each day of items that don't sell. On the last day of the sale, everything will be 1/2 off and clothes will be $3-5 a bag.

We have a lot of miscellaneous stuff to sell too and nothing will be over $2.00. Items such as new curtains, tools, e.t.c. The two items that I am stuck on for pricing are:

1. A Little Tykes castle w/ slide; 6-8 years old, larger than the ones in the store now.

2. A Toddler Bed; can't remember the brand name, but in good condition and made of plastic type material; no mattress.

We also plan to try selling pop (.50), bottled water (1.00), and maybe small snack bags. Not sure how much to price the snacks at.

Okay, please let me know what you think. Thank you!

Hi! Good luck with your tag sale. I'm thinking about having one at the end of June.

For the snacks & water - charge enough to make a profit. If it cost you 25cents for a bottle of water charge 50 cents. If it cost you 50 cents charge $1.

I think your paperbacks & hardcover book prices sound good. If you have a first edition in good shape charge up to $5. I think you're charging too much for the videos. I would consider charging less.

What did you pay for the Little Tykes item? Is it still in good condition? Think about charging half of what you paid for it. People can always negotiate if you let them know you don't mind negotiating. I would do the same thing with the toddler bed. But always take the condition into consideration.

You may also want to charge more for furniture with the option of negotiating. $5 for an end table in good condition seens like a steal.

Good luck!

Depending on the brand of toddler bed, new ones can be as low as $30.00. If it's a little tikes or other name brand start it higher than you reall want to end up with. VHS tapes will probably not sell for 5-7 even new. Some Disney OOP's you can get more for. All my kid's VHS (Sesame st, Barney, etc) I sold for $1.00-2.00 each, regular VHS movies 1.00-2.00.

For the Castle maybe charge $50 and for the toddler bed $40. Also for the snacks, I would charge .25 each. I think you should charge more for the furniture pieces too, like $10 each piece. AT yard sales we have had, people seem to offer half of what the price is. Good luck!

P.S. I agree with the previous post about the new video prices-I think you will only get around 3 or 4 dollars for the new ones, but who knows. Just my 2 cents.:)

I agree w/ the posters about the videos and furniture.

If the jogging stroller is in good condition, I'd start it a little higher as well.

I price the bulk of my children's clothing/shoes 50 cents. Really good stuff I put on hangers and price individually.

Not sure about the toys-- would probably depend on type, brand and condition.

Good luck!

I sold my toddler beds for $15 without mattresses. You can buy a new one for $25-30, so I figured I needed to start below that price.

Sorry I can't help since I'm also planning a yard sale for July (while my inlaws are away, I'm going to do it in front of their house since they live on a very busy street LOL). I'll tell them but only when it gets a little closer LOL
Anyway, thanks everyone for such great tips. I just gave away about 5 big bags of children's winter clothes which, I guess, would have been great for the sale but I know the person I gave it to needs it more than I need the money but anyway, will not give anything else away until after July LOL
Thanks again.

Forget the bowling balls, they never sell. The only people I have buy them are people who use them for target practice.
