Looking for info on the area. Wasn't there a car museum at one time? I looked on the website but nothing was listed?

What else is there to do/see in the area? We are taking a day trip up there this weekend.

Thanks!
LOVE yankee candles!!

I was there once.. You mean the big outlet/factory store - right? It was quite a few years ago, but the one thing I do remember is that it was in the fall, had the windows down in the car, and could smell the candles from literally miles away!!

I was thinking to myself that anyone who loves Yankee Candles could live in that area and never have to buy a single one - just open their house windows..:rotfl:

Sorry I can't help you with what else is around there..:goodvibes

There is a butterfly place nearby. There are also some historic homes in Deerfield that you can see. Springfield, MA is not far away, and there is a big mall there where you can do some shopping. Springfield is also home to the Basketball Hall of Fame, if you are interested in that kind of thing.

I actually think you could probably spend an entire day at YC!

No more car museum.
Magic Wings Butterfly is the butterfly place. It's pretty neat actually.
Historic Deerfield is nearby. It's sort of a recreation town with a museum and different houses etc...that you can visit.
Kringle Candle is also not far away. It's a new candle company started by the son of the man who started Yankee Candle. Very nice candles.
Have a great trip :)

I work for Yankee! :goodvibes I also have a friend who works out in Deerfield.

So funny you asked, I was thinking of taking the kids up this THursday, but its a 2 hour drive from RI!! As we all know, that requires an overnight stay!

I miss the car museum. I enjoyed it more than the home store that is there now.

We went the last week of August.

We went to the butterfly garden but I don't know if it would be open now since it is cold & it's not like it is an indoor thing. Well it is indoor but it has screened windows to let the hot & humid August air in. Needless to say it was HOT the day we went. We spent no more then an hour there.

Then we headed up to the candy store, I forget the name but it was a mile or so north of the butterfly museum. I was expecting more, um.. bigger, um..it wasn't what I expected.

Anyways, we went there, it was me, my dh & our 3 kids-9, 6 & 4. When I think candy store, I think happy, jolly people who smile & ask with a smile if you need anything. Well that was not the impression I nor my dh got.

The lady behind the counter never cracked a smile. I mean come on, you are surrounded by chocolate. Think Lucy & Ethel at the chocolate factory. So that was as dissapointment. I think the lady was more concerned that my kids would mess up the store which they didn't for some strange reason.

I will admit the chocolate that they made there was to die for. They also had rock candy & 'penny' candy type of pre packaged things there. I think we spent $20 in there.

I wish we skipped it, wait no, I wish we didn't buy the non-chocolate stuff from there & waited until we got to Yankee Candle.

Then we went to Yankee Candle & spent 2-3 hours in there. No, I am not kidding & it could of been more. We went to Dylan's candy bar & bought more candy, 3 kids in the car for the hour or so drive home really needed more candy???

For us it was just a day trip and not that far from home.

Oh wait, I felt like I was in South Carolina...um...South of the Border. There was a shop if you can call it that with I think a dinosaur head. It is on the same side as the butterfly garden & yes my kids asked to stop there but we knew better.

We took route 5 (I think) home for part of the way just to get 91 for a bit.

Funny you should ask this now as we were just there this past Sunday. We arrived at YC around 1 p.m. and didn't leave until 6:30 p.m. :scared1: There's lots to do with the kids. They have a toy "workshop" that houses Santa all year round. He was the REAL Santa, too--no fake beard for this guy--and very sweet. The kids visited with him, wrote letters and dropped it into the mailbox. There's a candy store, albeit VERY expensive, adjacent to the toy dept. After we did that, we had lunch at Chandler's, which is the restaurant on property. It's very charming, old New England but reservations are a must. After lunch we let the kids make their own jars, dip some ornaments/candles and did some shopping. They have a bavarian village complete with snow every 4 minutes. There's fudge, popcorn, candy apples, etc. as well as quite a few other food items. It's really done well and we easily spent the entire day there. Have fun!

It's Richardson's Candy Kitchen. Sorry you didn't have a good experience there, the chocolate is great!

It is open year round. They shut the windows in the winter.

Actually it is Dylan's Candy Bar and just opened in the past few weeks. The "owner" is Dylan Lauren, who is Ralph Lauren's daughter. Prices were really out of whack.

Oh, never heard of that one. Next time try Richardson's, they have great chocolate and I have never had a bad experience people-wise there. That's why I was a little surprisd that you didn't have a good experience, good to know it wasn't them! :)
