Have you seen where Yankee Candle is offering party favors? The basic one consists of a votive wrapped in tulle and adorned with a ribbon or label printed with the event name and date.

I am considering purchasing them for an upcoming party (DS's First Communion). I'm wondering whether anyone here has tried them or gotten them at a party. If you did, did you like them?

Another thing I'm considering is whether it's worth it to have YC make up the favors or whether it would be much less expensive to make them myself.

I could buy the candles, wrapped them in tulle myself (the craft stores have pre-cut circles), and fasten them with a ribbon (printed in the craft store) with a Cross charm. I need to price all that out.

If anyone here has experience with candle party favors, I could sure use your advice. :)

I did this for my best friends baby shower!
Do it yourself and you'll save so much money!!
You can find votive candles even the scented kind everywhere! Buy the tule from a craft store, tie it with ribbon and you have a great favor! My best friends sister-in-law made stickers printed out on her computer with the event, date and alittle picture of a bottle on it. We put them on the candle and they were a hit!!
It's very simple.

Make them yourself--it is much cheaper and they are very easy to make. We (family, cousins, aunts, friends) always make the party favors ourselves. We do use candles, but have used other items also. Baby showers, Wedding showers, Graduations, Communions etc. We get together and have our own little "party" while making them.

Have fun!!

I did this for a 4th of July party. I made them look kind of like fire crackers in tulle. The tulle circles are a little too small to fit around the candles...you might be better off to cut them yourself.

Most party stores have different size tulle, in various colors, and some even have fancy designs on the edges--so don't cut your own--takes to much time and can be difficult/awkward.

We made our own for my sister's wedding - MUCH cheaper. People commented on how much they liked them. I personally would love a candle as a party favor!

I've made them for baby shower favors before. They are easy to make and we printed out little sayings to go on each one. We also put baby confetti in the tulle before tying them up. They turned out very cute!

I did candles for my sister-in-law's baby shower. I put a little poem on them, something to the effect of..."When you light this candle's flame, please say a prayer in baby's name" Maybe you could do something like that but put your son's name in. Nice for a communion. (By the way this is not antnee posting, it's his gf, I could not figure out how to log out of his account.)

I am actually thinking on getting the YC ones for DD's communion this year....that is, if my sister can get her 1/2 discount on them....

:wave Hi, Antnee's gf! Nice to meet you! I think Antnee is a great guy. You're lucky to have him. :) And I love that poem you put on the candles.

My sister made sachets for my bridal shower. She used pre-cut tulle and some kind of tool to hold it in place while you tie it up. She still has the tool, so I can borrow that.

YC has a scent called "Song of Angels." I think that sounds appropriate for a Communion. Those candles are white, so I'm thinking either baby blue or white or gold or silver tulle. Or maybe a combination of those where I'd use a few layers of tulle.

We had the YC favors made 5 years ago for my sister's baby shower. At the time they only offered custom labels, not the full favors they are offering now.
If I remember correctly we ended up paying about $2 each for the votives. I chose pink and white candles, and had the labels made to say "Its a Girl, sister & BIL's names, 1999". They were very pretty and everyone seemed to love them.

I went to our local AC Moore Craft Store and bought a nice candle in a clear glass ginger jar scented with a baby powder scent. They were $1.00 apiece, I bought a package of little plstic baby diaper pins, and some pink and blue ribbon. I tied the diaper pin to the ribbon and wrapped the ribbon around the neck of the jar. I did 25 of these and it cost me about $30.00. The amount of candle in the jar was a lot more than what you get in a votive size candle.
