Well just gone and done it, booked a second trip for next year in August, flying American airlines via new york with an overnight stop over, took that flight as I have never been to New York so thought a night there would be something different, flying back BA via gatwick. Thought the price at a touch over £1600 each for business class wasnt too bad, everyone has been asking 2 grand until this last week.

Think we might do a week or so in Disney probably in a 1 bed and a weeks cruise as I really enjoyed that last year. Haven't decided which cruise to go on yet but think I might go for another royal caribbean. Any reccommendations for cruises would be welcomed.

Great news, do you overlap our dates? we return home 11th August.

Cruiseline, Disney will always be my fave but they have outpriced me, this August we paid $1,600(3 adults 4 nights) same cruise next August in same inside cabin $3,322
Same dates on RCCL $1,148 and thats an outside cabin.
However much we enjoy Disney cruising I won't pay 3 times the price of RCCL.
If you have enjoyed RCCL before I would stick with them.

We are flying on the 2nd night in new york and back on the 18th

DW would like Disney Cruise, but personally I would prefer a weeks cruise, also am I right in thinking that Disney Cruise Ships dont have a casino? I havent been able to see one on the maps and for me it would ruin my whole trip. My preference would be for a ship to be alcohol free than gambling free.

Thats correct, one reason I prefer Disney, been in a casino once, took £100, lost £50 in about 20 mins, other £50 stayed in my pocket, even in Vegas I scurried thru them, just don't like them. I am probably one of the few people who has been to Vegas and not gambled even a quarter.
But thats why RCCL are cheaper they are subsidised by the gambling.

Well done!! It honestly sounds like a dream vacation to me :thumbsup2 I like the way you have taken an overnight connection. I have looked at that the last couple of years - New York being one stopover and Fort Worth being another. I think indirect flights can be made into such an adventure. How early do you arrive in NY? Does it give you enough time to make a good evening of it? Do you know where you want to stay that night? Sorry about all the questions!

I must admit though I am with Wayne on not being a fan of gambling and casinos. But I guess that's what makes the world a fun place - we all want something different. :)

We arrive in New York at 12.30 so have all day, havent looked for accommodation, we did the same two years ago via Toronto.

Would be interested if anyone has any thoughts on any of the other cruise lines such as NCL celebrity etc and their experiences. Last year we were on Oasis of the seas in a junior suite but we are a little earlier in August this year and the prices are a bit eye watering for that level of accommodation, there is well over 1k difference compared to a balcony cabin.

Hope you get a good price on NY hotel, we looked at going back last week instead of Florida, last time we stayed at the Crowne Plaza Times Sq, paid £150/night, now over £300/night for same room. It was the deciding factor that took us back to Florida instead.

I have a customer that cruises 2 or 3 times a year, just been with Celebrity from Italy, said it was the best cruise he has done yet.
We have been upgraded to balcony free or got portholes for price of inside etc, couple of times we have got inside cabins we have been very happy with them so wouldn't pay for outside.

Will probably stay in an airport hotel and travel in for the day to new york, the prices do seem on the high side when I looked but it is only for one night so no great shakes.

If you do stay at an airport hotel, you can always use the Air Train to connect with the Subway or Long Island Railroad into Manhatten.

However, would suggest that you make sure any hotel operates a courtesy bus to/from the station as you don't want to end up having to shell out for a taxi as well!!!
