Anyone have an experience to share about the Yachtsman? We are looking for a good steak!

We had an excellent meal there in May. The atmosphere was very upscale and quiet. The food was great, I had the filet and my DH had the NY strip. Both were cooked just the way were ordered. The service was top notch. I would recommend this restaurant for sure.

YSH is one of our favorite places. We go frequently (next visit in less than a month) and always enjoy it. Great steak prepared exactly the way you request. Excellent service and atmosphere. Pricy but worth it.

Really good! We think it's better than LeCellier, maybe not up to Shula's, but very enjoyable.:earsboy:

I have enjoyed the filets I've eaten here. I have been very disappointed with both my New York (tried it twice) and my ribeye (tried it once) that I've had here. I like my steaks blue rare and they prepare it properly but these cuts have been so fatty and tough that I struggled to cut them.

The appetizers don't bowl me over but the bread, sides and desserts are all very good. Service has always been excellent.

We've eaten there twice and don't care for it. We've eaten at all the signatures multiple times and it's our least favorite, in fact, we don't plan to go back. :confused3

Clearly lots of folks love it though, just thought I'd add my 2 cents.....since you asked! ;)

The Yachtsman was OK, but we always liked the Captain's Grille. If you order their steaks, it's the same stock from the Yachtsman. First time we were at the Captain's Grille my wife liked the salt & pepper shakers so much we bought a pair and still use them. Back then they were the big yellow glass.

We find the food and service at the Yachtsman to be better than or on a par with the rest of the Signature Dining places at WDW.
We've eaten there twice and have not had any complaints.
Their Artisanal Cheese Platter is to die for.
We thoroughly enjoyed the New York Strip Steak with Peppercorn Brandy Sauce. The White Cheddar Potato Gratin that came with it was almost better than the meat. The lamb was also great.
We've brought our 2 young grandchildren with us on both occasions, and the staff went out of their way to serve their food promptly - and supplied plenty of diversions to keep them occupied while waiting.
It's a fine dining establishment without the stuffy atmosphere. I hope you try it and let us know what you think.

We LOVE Yachtsman. We haven't been to Le Cellier in years because of it. We've always had excellent meals there and it's one of our favorites and must do's every trip!

I just have to share my two cents!

We love the Yachtsman. It was the first place we ate on our honeymoon and my first meal on property ever, so it set the bar pretty high. In several weeks I'll be back for a third visit! And DH has been there many more times than me and loves it as well. I think when our server took our camera and started snapping pics of the interior of the restaurant and of me and DH, I was hooked. :)

Last year we had an absolute treasure of a server...of course I don't remember her name after almost a year, but I wish I did because I would request her again. Not afraid to have a conversation or tell us what her favorite choices were. Not afraid to share stories and ask us about ourselves. Very attentive and always on-the-ball.

Love the food. The cheese platter opened the door to a whole new world for me. The tomato and mozzarella salad I had last year was the best I've ever eaten - soooo fresh. DH practically swims in their bisque, and is praying that the porterhouse is still on the menu by the time we get there! (I had that last year as well - it was tremendously delicious but also tremendously HUGE!!! Never again will I attempt that! :sad2:)

Enjoy and don't forget about that follow-up! :goodvibes

I wish I had an experience to share so this is sort of off topic. We have ADR's for our last night and I'm wondering if I should change them - my DS27 is a vegetarian (I think that's what he is :rotfl: He doesn't eat meat, eggs, poultry or fish) so I'm hoping what they have on the menu will appease him. My only concern is seeing the meat display (he does go grocery shopping but stays out of the meat section). His reasons for eating this way is humanitarian and I commend him on this. But my 2 other sons going are steak lovers and my DS23's only request for an ADR was to eat steak.

I would not classify it as a top notch (or second or third) steakhouse.

that said...i have been several times and will be again.

good but unspectacular.

Shula's is much better.

It's not the menu, food quality, or selection that doesn't quite get Yachtsmans a glowing review - those are all great. I simply don't think that they know how to cook a good steak. You can cut a hunk of beef and cook it medium rare and serve it just as anyone else can...but it's the seasonings/ rubs/ spices/ sauces that bring out and augment the flavors. Bobby Flay has taught us that much...and after experimenting at both home and in restaurants...he's right.

They just kinda cook raw beef and give it to you....nothing brings out the flavor. Any chef or steak afficianado will tell you that filet is one of the more "tasteless" cuts of beef due to its relatively low fat content. to cook it well...sauces, seasonings, and sides have to be used to "bring out" the flavor. Yachtsman doesn't do that....i had probably the blandest chateaubriand in history there...not bad quality...just nothing to set apart from unseasoned beef.

We have dined there twice, and I had the Ribeye one time and the Porterhouse the other time. They were both sooo delicious! They are large cuts of meat as well. I could hardly finish my Ribeye, and could not finish my Porterhouse.

I've been 3 times. The service and food have always been top notch.

We ate there for the first time last month. I did not enjoy the food at all. I had the scallops for an app and I couldn't eat them. They had this aftertaste to them, the waitress found out they were cooked in bacon fat. My filet was just as bad, it was not good at all. I was very disappointed with our meal and would never go back there. During the same trip we ate the California Grill and loved it ! Sadly, we ate at Narcoosees and it was awful also. Good luck !
